SUPER CARE BEARS -Owen's Dream

The other night Owen wouldn't get in bed when it was time to go to sleep. He said there was stuff on his sheet. I looked and he was right- the sheet was dirty, so I went to the linen closet and I grabbed the first clean sheet I could- it happened to have Care Bears on the ends. I put it on his bed and asked him to go to sleep, and he put up a real fight about it (can't imagine why, he is a 7-year-old boy). I was tired of excuses so I put my foot down and said- we will wash your sheet and put it back on tomorrow- it will be dark, and you will have your eyes closed, so it doesn't matter!

His response: "But Dad, I will keep thinking about it and I will keep getting mad, and now I am going to have a dream about Care Bears!" This was followed by a spectacular display of sadness and grief. I told him that though it was unlikely he would have a dream about Care Bears, if he did, he could turn the Care Bears into cool superheroes or other characters like Harry Potter Care Bear, or Naepoleon Dynamite, etc (you get the idea). He didn't like it, but he slept on a Care Bear sheet for one night. The following day we talked about it as a family and decided it would be cool if we could draw out what we imagined it would look like if we melded Care Bears with other characters. This was fun, and all the kids participated (So did I, as you can see. I can't decide if I like the Iron Man Care Bear or the Harry Potter Care Bear best). Some of the kids had great ideas- Snow White Care Bear, Luke Skywalker Care Bear, Nacho Libre Care Bear, Wonder Woman Care Bear, Kung Fu Panda Care Bear, and .. so forth....

What fun! Feel free to click on the image to see closer up.

I love you more as a purple tulip

This was our favorite line from our homemade valentines this year.

On a more serious note, this is my current favorite quote about our Heavenly Father's love.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, "Think of the purest, most all-consuming love you can imagine. Now multiply that love by an infinite amount – that is the measure of God’s love for you."

Happy Valentine's Day!

Our furry family member

by Jonas

I pad down the stairs and slip onto the rug quietly. My fur shimmers in the light and my tail swishes. My nose catches wind of a scent that makes my tail stop swishing: fresh tuna and boiling water. I pay no attention to the boiling water and slink into the kitchen. I hesitate as a cacophony of sound crashes onto my ears. My ears flatten and I shrink back as loud footsteps pound across the floor. Someone talks loudly, and I take a step backwards again. Feet come toward me, and then, suddenly, a can of tuna is on the floor. Everything else pounding on my senses becomes blurry and faded. The taste of tuna on my small, pink tongue is heavenly. As soon as the can is licked clean, I retreat back upstairs to the quiet and slip under a bed for a nap.

Emma, our beloved and oft mistreated cat of 12.5 years

P.S. This is not an obituary! This was a writing assignment, and I thought, hey, I haven't ever blogged about Emma!
