wednesday...make your own gate chipboard tutorial

Today I have a quick tutorial on how to make your own chippies! In the NEW Heartfelt Creations June Release there is this gorgeous gate die that I thought would be perfect as a chipboard so I did what crafters do and made one for my layout!

Here's the step by step tutorial on how to make it.

Supplies:
-HCD 7100 Heartfelt Creations Botanic Window Die
-brown heavyweight cardstock
-adhesive

Step 1. Die cut 4 gates from a light brown heavyweight cardstock.

Step 2. Adhere all the layers together to form a thick gate.

Step 3. Embellish/treat your 'chipboard' however you like!
For mine, I randomly inked it with my Vintage Photo Distress Ink pad until I liked the color and then added Clear Rock Candy crackle paint over it for a rustic feel.

Here's a close up of the finished gate before I used in on my layout HERE.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today! Drop me a line if you used this tutorial! I'd love to see what you create with it!

friday...leftover papers card tutorial

Hi everyone! I have a small tutorial and a card to share with you today!

How do you clean your desk space? After every card/layout or when you can't find your work surface anymore? I happen to clean after every card or at least after every set of cards/projects I'm currently working on. For example, last time I cleaned out my desk was when I finished my two cards for the New Release blog hop for ODBD December release. You can see my cards here. Well, after making that Tri-shutter card i had a lot of odd shaped/size pattern paper but were too pretty to toss so I ended up using them!

Here's the card I made with whatever was on my desk while I was "cleaning up":

ODBD Products: Saddle upDouble Stitched CirclesPretty Posies DiesLovely Leaves DiesRustic Beauty Paper Collection

Here's a tutorial on how I made this card in under 20 mins:

Step 1. Gather your leftover pattern papers and put them together to make a 4"x5.25" background.

Step 2. Adhere them over a scrap (ugly papers work great for this!) 4"x5.25" paper. Ink the edges and machine stitch all around it. This last step really helps bring all these random pieces of paper together.

Step 3. Lastly, stamp your image with brown archival ink on cream colored cardstock and die cut it with a Double Stitched Circles. Ink the edges lightly with Vintage Photo ink to give it an antique feel and mat it on dark brown cardstock.

Here's a close up of the card. I adhered the matted image, a sentiment and a handmade bloom over the center of the background that I just made. I die cut a bunch of leaves and used them to embellish the card. Easy peasy and under 20 mins! What more can you ask for? :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! Have a great weekend!

saturday...Merry Christmas card and a flower tutorial

Good morning friends! Today I want to share yet another Christmas Card with you! I made this one with the new ODBD November Release!

ODBD Products: Merry Christmas DiesPinecones DiesLovely Leaves DiesLayered Lacy Squares DieChristmas Collection 2015 Paper Pad

I matted my background paper with gold cardstock and added it over a cream colored cardbase. I then layered different die cut layers of the  Layered Lacy Squares Die in the center and added the die cut sentiment in the center. I embellished this card with a handmade red flower and some greenery.

Here's a close up of this card:

Here's the tutorial on how to make the flower:

Step 1. Die cut 5 pine cones from the NEW Pinecones Dies and ink their edges.

Step 2. Shape them according to my diagram to give each one a bowl shape.

Step 3. Start adhering them on their wider side on a 1" punched/die cut circle. Make sure that you overlap them as you adhere them.

Step 4. This is your finished bloom. You can use it as-is or you can make another one and layer them to get a bigger bloom. You can use whatever you want for their center.

Here's my finished version.

Hope that you enjoyed this quick tutorial! If you try it, let me know so I can see it!
Have a blessed day!

monday...Swirlydoos February Kit Cards #3

It's the last week of February! For me, it means that I'm getting closer to meeting my little boy!

Today I have an easel card tutorial for you, using the I used the Swirlydoos February Kit, Lady Belle.

and a few close ups:

Closed card

So, now that you know what we are doing, let's get started!

Step 1. Trim a heavy cardstock to 5.5"x5.5" and die cut a circle our of it. I'm using Heartfelt Creations Layered Scalloped Posy Die so I'll have to run it through my die cutting machine twice (top and bottom).

Step 1a. Make sure that folded area is a little over the fold so that you don't right through it. You will nee this so that the card opens and closes.

Step 2. This is what you will get after you finish your first base layer.

Step 3. Die cut another separate single layer our of the same cardstock.

Step 4. From the fold, mark 3" below it and fold it inwards. Add adhesive to this part and adhere the single layer on top.

Step 5. This is how your easel card base will look like at this stage. Now you can decorate it however you want!

Step 6. For my card, I die cut two circles our of coordinating colors measuring 4.5" and 4" and distressed their edges.

Step 7. I layered them over my front side of the card and added a little trim around the smallest layer.

Step 8. I then added a few layers in the centers and my stamped sentiment on top. I pop dotted the sentiment to make it stand out.

Step 9. I added some blooms around the sentiment as shown.

Step 10. Finally, I added some handmade leaves and some brown twine.

Step 11. Now, so that your easel card can stand up, you need something for the inside. I added two stickers layers over each other and pop dotted to give some dimension.

here's the finished easel card again:

Thanks for stopping by and if you make your own easel card, I'd love to check it out! :)

saturday...soft pink flower tutorial

Welcome back! As promised, today I have a tutorial on how to make the soft pink blooms that I used on my latest layout. So, let's get started!

Supplies:
  • pink cardstock from Jan Swirlydoos Add On Cardstock Kit
  • Miniature silk & tulle roses Jan Swirlydoos Add On Signature Flower Kit
  • Heartfelt Creations flower stamps (Delicate Asters PreCut Set)
  • Heartfelt Creations Delicate Asters Die
  • StazOn Archival Ink (Timber Brown)
  • embossing mat (or mouse pad) and embossing tool
  • adhesive of your choice
  • Optional: Diamond Stickles

Step 1. Die cut 2 of each different size (except for the smallest one) of the delicate asters flowers from the light pink cardstock.

Step 2. Stamp each flower on it's corresponding size die cut.

TIP: Use a clear block and add a small piece of double sided tape to the center. Add the die cut flower to this and stamp the paper UNTO the rubber stamp, instead of the traditional way. This way you can control and clearly see what you are doing!

Step 3. Shape each petal  as shown. For the larger petals you want to do it from the back and from the tip to the front.

Step 4. When you are done shaping each petal, turn the flowers right side up and cusp the center to make a bowl shape.

Step 5. For the small flower you want to just cusp the center on the right side of the stamped flower as shown.

Step 6. Layer each individual flower, staggering the petals to give your a fuller bloom.

Step 7. This is what you end up with when you have layered all the flowers. At this point, you can add anything to the center!

Step 8. Add a Miniature silk & tulle roses from the Jan Swirlydoos Add On Signature Flower Kit to the center.

Step 9. Add Diamond stickles to the edges and make some leaves to go with it too!

Here's how the flower looks in a finished layout:

Thank you checking out my tutorial and if you make a bloom, please share it with me! I'd love to see it!
