A fine painting.
There is on exhibition and for sale at Lybreck's, under the Spotswood Hotel, a full length portrait of Washington, by Hubard. This picture is one of the best, if not the very best, achievements of the distinguished artist. It should be bought for some public place of deposit by some State or library. Independent of any other consideration, its high merit, and the honor due the great original, especially at this time, entitles the picture to this eminence. But Mr. Hubard had fixed his life here in the land of Virginia, his adopted mother, and met his death untimely and violently in his efforts to serve her and the glorious South of which she was a member. These facts add to the interest of this great work of his, which is to be sold for the benefit of his family, and entitles it the more especially to Southern favor and regard.
