Yankee thanksgiving.

Lincoln has recommended a thanksgiving for the escape of Knoxville from Longstreet's clutches. He ought to appoint Brownlow as officiating high priest on the occasion. That "Reverend wild beast," as he was once aptly designated, would be a most suitable mouthpiece for Yankee devotions over such an event. With a month full of curses, and a heart full of hate, let Brownlow proceed to put up his pious imprecations to the throne of Infinite Mercy and Forgiveness.

We do not deny that Lincoln has reason to be thankful for his hold upon East Tennessee. We have worn out a good many pens in demonstrating its importance to the Confederate Government. But its loss, though of great temporary disadvantage, must and will be repaired.
