Government prices,

when adopted and published, ought to be the standard for buying and selling all the articles enumerated by the appraisers. If bacon is worth $1 per pound to Government, it is worth that much and no more to individual buyers. But for speculators the Government prices would rule everywhere, and we should hear no more of extortioners.
