Unnaturalized citizens.
--The following was passed by both branches of the Legislature on Monday last:
A bill defining the persons who may obtain Licenses.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly, That no license shall be granted to any person except a citizen of the Confederate States, and except to such persons as shall have declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the Confederate States, and that he shall have renounced forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, State or sovereignty whatsoever; nor shall a license be granted to such person not a citizen, if such declaration shall have been made five years preceding the time of making such application for such license in any court of the United States or of the Confederate States, and such person shall have failed to become a citizen according to law. Any license or certificate for obtaining a license granted to any one not authorized to obtain the same, shall be absolutely void.This act shall be enforced from its passage.
