Getting on a spree.
--There may be a good deal of fun in getting on a bender — certainly this must be the universal impression; else there would be more "swearing off," and fewer worshippers of blue rain. Liquor affects people in different ways for the moment — some it makes jolly and social, and some fiery and pugnacious — but all suffer the unavoidable penalty while "getting over it." Thus, when men are carried before the Mayor for stirring up a tempest while drunk, they feel all the sensations consequent upon their situation, and would be thankful to anybody for knocking them into the middle of next week. Two or three cases of this nature were before the Mayor yesterday, and we hope the lesson derived may induce the parties to abandon the society of an enemy who goes about like a "roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour somebody."
