[390] δώδεκα γάρ. Schol. Q. “ε. δῆλον δὲ ἐκ τούτων ὅτι ἀριστοκρατία τίς ἐστιν, ἐξέχει δ᾽ ἐν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἀλκίνους”. In Hom. Od.1. 394 there are said to be “πολλοὶ βασιλῆες” in Ithaca; the word signifying, as here, dependent princes. Others compare the constitution of Phaeacia with the twelve districts under the central authority of one king, as established by Theseus at Athens.
