If you are down to just a tee and shorts, chances are, you are thinking of getting an air conditioner. The temperatures are rising fast and you know that sooner or later, you will need an air conditioner.

So many varieties of Air conditioners, so many brands. Which one to choose? What should the criteria be? After all, buying an air conditioner is an important decision. You definitely don’t want to be regretting post-purchase.

Here is a list of Guideline that will help you choose your next air conditioner wisely:

1. TYPES
Yes, there are different types of air conditioners.

Window air conditioners are when you have to fit the air conditioners into the window. Things to consider here of course would be the size of the air conditioner and window. You may be required to make your window bigger. The position of the window also matters. You don’t want the air conditioner to be in a corner where cooling the entire room takes longer.

Split air conditioners are the ones you see lately. They go on top of the wall. You don't need a window for this. They are smaller too and generally make less noise.

Portable air conditioners As the name can be carried anywhere and anytime. They don’t need installations. They are best used in small rooms

2. TONNAGE
This is one of the most important factors to consider when buying an air conditioner. In common parlance, tonnage is the cooling capacity of the air conditioner. Bigger the cooling area, higher the tonnage required. If you buy a small tonnage air conditioner for a big room, the room will not cool well, you will also see a spike in your electricity bill. The converse situation is when you buy an air conditioner with large tonnage and the room is small. This will make the room frigid and uncomfortable.

3. CONDENSER
The longevity of your air conditioner depends on the condenser used. Condensers can be copper or aluminum. Aluminum condensers are cheaper. The flip side is that you will spend a lot on servicing and maintenance. Copper condensers are more expensive but they live longer. Their maintenance cost is low.

Good Quality condensers help the air conditioner run longer. Example: A TCL air conditioner uses patented titan gold technology for its condensers, which reduces corrosion of evaporators and increases the durability of condensers.

4. ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR is the trusted, government-backed symbol for energy efficiency. Higher energy rating means your air conditioner can provide higher cooling with less electricity. Energy efficiency tells us how much energy the air conditioner will use. An air conditioner with 3 green ticks is a good choice . A good air conditioner should be able to save you at least 30-50% of electricity consumption.

5. NOISE
In summers, it's highly likely that your air conditioner will be on most of the time. Some air conditioners are noisy. This means noise throughout the day can be annoying. A good air conditioner will make less than 60DB noise.

TCL air conditioners come with mute mode. This works at less than or equal to 36DB making your AC really quiet.

6. DEHUMIDIFICATION UNIT
This is the component that controls how humid the air conditioner makes the room. Air conditioners with a good dehumidification unit increases the overall efficiency of the air conditioner.

7. AFTER SALES SERVICE & WARRANTY
After sales service is how brands can win trust of their customers. Right from fixing the air conditioner to providing service in case of a malfunction, after sale service helps enhance customer satisfaction.

8. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
Electronic devices today cannot be stand alone devices. They have to be able to function through AI tools as well. Imagine an Air Conditioner that can cool the room even before you enter it. This is possible through apps that let you control the device through your smartphone from anywhere in the world.

9. FILTERS
A clean filter prevents the evaporator coil from soiling quickly. If the filter is very dirty, you may even feel warm air coming out of the back of the unit. A clogged filter forces the air conditioner to work harder to keep the room cool. This will lead to more frequent AC repairs and, ultimately, shorten the lifespan of the unit.

Filter also is responsible for keeping harmful viruses and bacteria away. The TCL AI Ultra inverter AC uses silver ion filters that ensure air inside the room is bacteria and fungi free. The micro dust filters prevent it from even gathering dust , thus increasing the longevity of the air conditioner.
