Silliness - Another Tag with the Swirlydoos "Spring Grunge" Kit

I just may have mentioned how much I love the Tim Holtz Etcetera thickboard tags that were included in the "Spring Grunge" Project Kit from Swirlydoos. Not only are the sizes of the tags amazing, but they take any amount of mixed media perfectly! I used the larger of the two tags for the Kit Reveal; here's what I did with the smaller one, featuring my granddaughter's last day of school pics.

After priming the entire surface with black gesso, I used a stipple brush and my fingers to apply the Prima Opal Magic Wax from the Mediums Kit to my tag and allowed it to set. Next, I figured where I wanted to place the "Today" sticker and stenciled some vines around the area, using one of the Tim Holtz mini layering stencils from the Project Kit.
While that was drying, I went to work on the pocket on the bottom (and I want to thank Swirly Educator Heather Thompson for the idea ). Using another of the stencils and Ferro Paste, I decorated a piece of pattern paper with some pretty roses, again going around my acetate word sticker. I decorated the sides with nailhead stickers and the top with a bit of the leaves ribbon from the Main Kit and fastened to the tag with Aleen's tacky glue. (I started out with Scor Tape, but it didn't adhere to the wax very well.)
I used the Deco Art Metallic Lustre from the Embellishment Kit on the reinforcement circle before gluing it to the tag. While I had it out, I applied it around the sides and here and there over the stenciled vines.
The main photo was matted with a few scraps of pattern paper with some packaging between the layers to add some dimension.
The smaller photos were glued to some packaging and then to a couple of tags that I cut with a Sizzix die. The paper clips from the Main Kit were attached to the tags and a couple of the Heidi Swapp word jumbles were adhered to the photos.
A scattering of blooms from the Flower Add-On and some of the gorgeous sparkle ribbon from the Main Kit and I called it done.

May "Spring Grunge" Kit from Swirlydoos

What a way to celebrate Spring - Swirlydoos' Spring Grunge Kit and Add-Ons are packed full of gorgeous colors, elegant embellishments (with a bit of fun thrown in!) and, as always, the opportunities to create several OTP projects.

I started with the sketch (did you know that every Swirlydoos Kit comes with an original sketch created by Swirlydoos Designer Kim Heard?), the Chance sheet from Blue Fern Studios' Happy Accident collection and this wonderful photo of my parents from 1941. To create a bit of interest in the background, I rubbed the Viva Decor Inka Gold from the Mediums Add-On though one of the Tim Holtz Mini Stencils that came in the Project Kit. I chose to back my image with a journaling card from the Embellishment Add-On and the Darice gate that was included in the Main Kit. The Blue Fern Studios chippie (also from the Embellishment Add-On) was treated with the Inka Gold and then slightly inked to give it an aged look. I finished it all with blooms from the Flower Add-On and some vines cut with the Die of the Month (Monterey Vine by Poppystamps) that I treated with the Liquid Leaf from the Mediums Add-On.

Here is the sketch.

And my layout...

And a few closeups...

- a monthly chance to show off some of your collection of butterflies, dragonflies, bees, ladybugs, birds, fairies and anything else that well, flutters. Each month, there is a different theme; this time, it's all about men

Here is the layout that I created as an example This is my father's high school yearbook photo, taken in 1936, scrapped with the new "Spring Grunge" kit and add-ons, full of pinks and grays and black tones, perfect for a more masculine layout.

I've added some background interest by applying the DecoArt wax through the Tim Holtz Harlequin stencil onto the Wood Background paper. Next, I tore the Stone Quartz sheet. A full 12" strip was adhered just above the center of the page. I further tore some of the remainder to create several layers of matting beneath my photo. I added some drywall tape from my stash down one side and on the bottom and embellished it all with flowers, stickers and a pennant from the Gems and Paper Clips package.

I took one of the two dangles from the chipboard package and primed it with black gesso. When it was dry, I lightly went over it with the same DecoArt wax that I used with the stencil, being careful to let a lot of the black show through. Lastly, I glued the necklace from the main kit on top, drew the chain up and over the paper and taped it to the back. (I cut off the unused chain, saving it for later.)

 Some closeups...

This picture of a six-year-old me is wrong in so many ways. I'm facing the sun and either I'm squinting or my eyes are shut. The shadows on my face are so sharp that my nose and mouth are distorted. Most of all (and this has nothing to do with the sun), there is my hair. Now, I was born with baby-fine, straight hair and it has stayed this way all of my life. Back in the day, the solution for this was the Tonette Children's Home Permanent, which left my hair so very, very frizzy for the first few weeks.

I was reminded of this photo a few weeks ago when I was at a gathering of scrappy friends and somehow the Tonette Permanent came up in conversation. I mentioned that I had this photo and that someday I was going to scrap it. Well, "someday" is now; the "Spring Grunge" Kit from Swirlydoos comes with papers and embellishments that are just so pretty. I've taken advantage of the pinks and grays and bits of blue (that match my dress) to create a setting for my not-so-lovely, but still perfectly girly photo.

I've created a tutorial on Snapguide; here's the link.https://snapguide.com/guides/create-a-layout-with-the-spring-grunge-main-kit/

And here are a couple of closeups.

The Spring Grunge Project Kit comes with two of the new (and  incredible!) Tim Holtz Hardboard Tags. I've created this piece of Home Decor with the larger tag, the backplate from the Embellishment Add-On and a photo that I took last Summer in New Orleans' French Quarter.

Some closeups...

A few blooms from the Flower Add-On...

Dry brushing with the Finnabair Metallique paints that came with the Project Kit...

A Prima Memory Hardware pull from my stash, altered to match the backplate...

Swirlydoos March Kit "Indigo Dreams" Reveal

This is my first month as part of the Swirlydoos Design Team and what a way to start! The Indigo Dream Kit and Add-Ons are packed full of gorgeous colors, elegant embellishments (with a bit of fun thrown in!) and the opportunities to create several OTP projects.

I started with the sketch (did you know that every Swirlydoos Kit comes with an original sketch created by Swirlydoos Designer Kim Heard?), the Entwined sheet from Scrapberry's Primavera collection and this wonderful photo of my daughter-in-law and granddaughter from a few years ago.

Here is the sketch.

And my layout...

And a few closeups...

I'm now hosting the All That Flutters Challenge - a monthly chance to show off some of your collection of butterflies, dragonflies, bees, ladybugs, birds, fairies and anything else that well, flutters!

Here is the layout that I created as an example, using the amazing chippie that came in the Main Kit and a bird that I made with air-dry clay.
Some closeups...

This next layout was actually built around this amazing peacock feather that's part of the main kit. I used the Pearl Texture Luxe and a Prima stencil to create a bit of interest in the background and a few chipboard feathers from my stash; the rest of the embellishments are all from the Main Kit and Flower and Embellishment Add-Ons.

The Heidi Swapp Memory Files Kit and the Maggi Holmes flower clips from the Flower-Add On gave me a big moment of "aha"! I've been trying to come up with a system of keeping track of my projects - ideas, deadlines, photos - all of the "To Do" stuff that I'll need for the upcoming month and this was perfect.
I've added some wood alphas from my stash to the front and a calendar printed on cream cardstock; all of the rest of what you see is from the "Indigo Dream" Kit and Add-Ons.
I've printed out a calendar page on cream colored cardstock to keep track of due dates.

The small album was adhered to make a handy place to keep notes and ideas. More notes on the opposite page all held with the pretty resin clips that were included in the Flower Add-On; turn the page for more notes and ideas...

And the last page; I've created some pockets to hold even more photos that I want to use as soon as the opportunity comes up.

And now for the Carousel from the Project Add-On Kit - I've colored it with Chalkboard paint and then used papers from the main kit and a few odds and ends from my stash to decorate it. Krissy included a string of LED lights, which I entwined around the center post. When lit, this is an amazing piece of home decor!
