You Are a Star

I’ve scrapped this photo of my granddaughter before, but the dotted Swiss pattern on the “A” side of the “Tight Fit” paper from Maja Design’s Denim and Girls collection that came in the July kit from Très Jolie made a redo irresistible.

I needed a lightly patterned design to serve as my base and the “Amazing” paper was perfect, with just enough image and texture to provide interest while allowing me to keep the center as my focal point.
I tore two pieces of the “Tight Fit” sheet lengthwise, taking care that the white core shows all the way down. I fastened them down the center of the page, allowing the top sheet to overlap an inch or two from the bottom edge.
Next, I backed my photo with a piece of packaging to give it stability and dimension and glued it down just above the center.

As I was trimming the UPC strip from the bottom of the “Tight Fit” sheet, I had a moment of “Aha!”. Maja Designs backs these strips with patterns that coordinate with the papers and this one, in addition to the pattern of my base sheet gave me the here-to-for undecided title for my layout. I cut the strip to a length that fit the bottom of the photo and then a second piece that I fussy cut at the end. I backed them with packaging and placed them under the photo.

I went into my stash for most of the flowers. The large navy bloom was centered with yellow stamens, not a good match. In the end, I removed and replaced them with a bit of bling.
That awesome wheel and one of the flowers were included in the July Très Jolie kit.

I took some more of the bling (a gift from scrappy friend Dawna) that I used as a flower center and placed a few pieces around the layout.
Next, I splattered the page with Color Bloom mist, not following any pattern, just a little here and there until the droplets appeared all over.
Digging further into my stash, I found these beautiful stars from ReneaBouquets; I placed several among the flowers and then scattered more around the page.

Tough but Sweet

This is my take on the July Mood Board from Très Jolie, using several sheets of the Denim & Girls collection from Maja Design and a good helping of the flowers and other embellishments that Kim selected for the Main Kit.

When I saw the hearts pattern on the “B” side of the Pink Linen sheet, this photo from my “must scrap” pile immediately came to mind. Here’s how it all came together.

I began by cutting an 8” x 8” square from the center of the bottom paper and put it aside. Using Scōr Tape, I adhered the remaining piece to a piece of packaging to give it stability; this would be my base.
The Pink Linen sheet was trimmed to 11 ½” x 11 ½” and punched in random spots around the edges before distressing and inking all around. When I was satisfied with the border, I taped it to the base.

I cut a 4 ¼” x 5 ¼” piece from the paper that I had taken from the center of the base, punched it down one side and distressed and inked the remaining edges. This was placed under my photo with a bit of packaging in between.
I flipped the remaining paper over to expose the dark print and used it along with one of the bracket tags (again, distressed and inked) to complete my layers.

And now it was time to embellish my page.

First, the amazing chipboard heart from Creative Embellishments: I simply dabbed it with the chalk edger; this ink is so “juicy” that one coat on the bare surface was all that I needed. I glued it down to the side of the photo, using a small piece of foam tape under the “splat” on top to give it dimension.

I cut the reverse sides of the UPC strips from the pattern paper into smaller pieces. After distressing and inking the edges, I placed them here and there around the page.

One of the strips went under the photo as the title piece.

I layered several flowers at the corner under the bottom of the chipboard piece. I cut apart some of the lace that came in the June kit and tucked it in here and there. I used some flat-back pearls (a gift from my SBC buddy, Dawna) to fill in the empty spaces.

I finished my page by adding some flowers and lace to the strips that I had placed in the upper corner.

By the Sea

I created this layout for the July Challenge at Creative Embellishments, where it’s all about Blues with a twist to use clouds or waves.

This was a perfect opportunity to finally scrap one of the photos while on a cruise with stops in Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire last April. I decided on both clouds and waves for the twist, using this view of the coast of Bonaire.

After coating both sides of my paper with clear gesso, I used a Creative Embellishments stencil and white crackle paste to create some texture around the page.
As this was setting, I selected a few chipboard shells from Creative Embellishments and hit them with a coating of mist.

I backed my photo with a piece of packaging to give it dimension and stability and glued it to the page, tucking several small pieces of cheesecloth here and there around the sides.

I decided to leave the Nautical Corner chipboard bare to blend in with the bottom of my photo. I cut it in half and placed the larger piece to the bottom of the image. The remaining piece was glued underneath, creating a dangle.

My shells were now dry. I wanted them to be a little whiter, so I used my applicator to coat them with Distress Ink before placing them around the photo.

I placed a few blooms and several flat back pearls (a gift from my Swap Buddy Dawna) to the “wheel” part of the chipboard.
Next, I glued down a bit of flair (also from Creative Embellishments) to use as my title piece.

To finish my page, I scattered a few Mélange pebbles around the page.
