Beautiful things

Have you heard this song?

I heard it sung a few weeks ago at church and it has resonated with me ever since. The lyrics just stuck with me and I felt so convicted.

"You make beautiful things out of the dust"

For a couple of weeks I just loved listening to the song and thinking about how God made such wonderful things from all the hurt and suffering in the world and continues to give us such beautiful gifts that aren't deserved. Monday night Jon and I started our journey of reading the bible for the next year together and our study guide had us read Genesis 1 and 2. And after reading this verse, it all made sense.

"...the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being" Genesis 2:7

And what's even more amazing, I read Verse of the Day everyday and Genesis 2:7 just happened to be the verse yesterday. I encourage you to check out Verse of the Day as it is a great tool for understanding the meaning of certain verses and guiding you through prayer.

I felt like God was trying to tell me something. First with this song. Then with our study and without coincidence, reading the same verse the next day on Verse of the Day. I felt like He was showing me that His power alone is the source of all life. That He had each of us in mind when creating Adam.

Thoughts on this verse...

We are God's creation. He fashioned and formed our predecessors out of the fust of the ground. He molded each of us and created each of us in our mother's womb (Psalm 139:13-16). Like Adam, God fills us with breath and blesses us with life. We are his workmanship, his artistry, made to experience life in all its fullness (John 10:10) and created to do his work in our world (Ephesians 2:10). (from Verse of the Day)

I love thinking about myself as God's masterpiece. We all are such a beautiful work of art that He spent so much time create. We are each unique in God's eyes and loved more than anything.

"You make beautiful things out of the dust, you make beautiful things out of us"

My Prayer...

Thank you for my life, dear God. Please don't let anyone, or anything, distract my heart from honoring you. Please do not let the evil one distort my sense of being your creation. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. (from Verse of the Day)
