I know what I like. When I see something, I know immediately whether I like it or not...but...
Does it ever happen to you that you see something and you like it but it's not really you and you don't know why you like it but you just do?
I saw these chairs on Remodelista.
I L.O.V.E. them!
I don't know why.
I'm not a fan of the strings that hang from them but I love the flags and the colors.
I think they would look so good around a huge old farm table in a neutral dining room.
I can just imagine one with each flag representing states and countries from our family's history.
(flags representing Texas, USA, Ontario, Canada, Scotland, Netherlands...that's 6 for 6 dining chairs)
I think this one is just beautiful.
Can you see the sides and back? They are unfinished and exposed intentionally.
I think that's so different and cool.
I have never tried to reupholster something. I don't sew and I would stress over it not being perfect.
These chairs give me new hope. I wouldn't even have to recover the whole chair; just parts of it.
So, I have a couple of questions for you.
1. Am I crazy? Do you like these chairs too?
2. Any ideas on how I can recreate those flag chairs on the cheap?
They are great in a 'I would definately cut the strings' kinda way!
ReplyDeleteCan't offer any advice on how to do it yourself really, perhaps painting the map or flag on yourself, if the chair has a wooden back you could just paint on to it, no need for a cushion.
Have fun however you choose to do it!
I do love the first chairs. The unfinished one, I'm not sure about. I think it would look cool in the right setting. Then again, in my house maybe it'd fit right on with all the other unfinished projects. Ha!
ReplyDeleteNo, you aren't crazy at all~because the chairs are crazy cool! They aren't me, they'd stick out like a sore thumb in my house, but I do like them. You definitely wouldn't find those at your local Ethan Allen.
ReplyDeleteI'd just start looking on Ebay for the flags and make sure they're the heavy cotton ones. I don't know if you can get the cheap, but you can get them one at a time. :)
I'm not even going to try and guess HOW to do it.
ReplyDeleteBut I love the shape of those chairs.
I'm with you though, I don't get the strings. And in my house they'd be cat toys.
And...good to see you back.
Missed you!
I am so with you; I love them. So cool! Not the biggest fan of the strings either like you, but otherwise, amazing. How can we make them?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of flag inspired chairs for your dining room. My idea would be to paint drop cloths, like people are doing to get the faux flour sack pillows or rugs. You could use painters tape for the stripes, some craft paint, maybe a little bottle of the stuff to mix with the craft paint for fabric.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I love these chairs too.
ReplyDeleteAnything that is red, white, and blue appeals to me and since we can't use our own flags for re-upholstery, it's fun to know we can use the old Union Jack to get a similar effect.
Thanks for sharing these.
So glad I found your blog. It is right up my alley. Wish I could shop at your antique booth but I live too far away. My friend and I have one in Illinois. Please stop by our blog at www.bluecardinal.blogspot.com
We are just getting started so we have a lot to learn about blogging.
I will post your blogspot as one of my faves!
Keep up the great work!
Oh YEAH....I'm ALL OVER the flag chairs....MINUS the string bits....Gina Love this happens to me ALL THE TIME....And this is WHY I flit between Shabby Chic, Vintage (be it Granny or retro) & Junk styles....So NO....I don't think you're crazy at all....Ummmmmm....Unless we BOTH are....hahahahaha....
