Autumn Richness 3 - Berry Panels

This is my last project post for the September 24 challenge at Country View Crafts challenges on FaceBook. Two little panels that grew to four and now five. I've added one more to complete the series.

Here they are as a completed collection.

I made a little torn tab booklet to add them to with some collage paper elements.

Autumn Richness 2 - More Berry Panels

This is my second project for the September 24 challenge at Country View Crafts challenges on FaceBook. Two more little panels that grew to five (one more post to come very soon).

See the first post here - http://www.bumblebeesandbutterflies.com/2024/09/autumn-richness-1-berry-panels.html

I have used Alison Bomber stamps and just love these berries.

The little diecut leaves on the words panel with berries were cut in red textured card and then scribbled with some ground espresso and forest moss distress watercolor pencils over the leaves and stems and rubbed them in. For more details click the link to the first post above.

Autumn Richness 1 - Berry Panels

This is my first project for the September 24 challenge at Country View Crafts challenges on FaceBook. Two little panels that grew to five (more to come later).

I have used Alison Bomber stamps and just love these berries.

Background for book page panels - dipped and dried - gathered twigs DO.  Repeated with tea dye DI and also Hickory Smoke DO. Brayered white gesso randomly and lightly over the top. I then stamped some of the pressed foliage range of Alison's stamps and some little ephemera stamps with walnut stain DI and covered it with a piece of vellum.

Stamped berries with Clair Pinecone and coloured in with wet aged mahogany and candied apple distress watercolor pencils. Cut them out and added to the panels with sme Tim Holtz snippets and leaves diecut from distress inked backgrounds.

The second panel was put together in the same way as the first but included a Tim Holtz die-cut with words from Alison's stamps.

Using Stencils with Distress Watercolor Pencils - Deco Feather stencil and flower design

It's my turn to post over at the Country View Craft Challenge on FaceBook and I have chosen the theme of 'Stencils'. There are just so many ways they can be utilised and in my latest workshops at CVC Headquarters I was teaching about the Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Pencils and I focussed quite a lot on monoprinting.

On my card the larger panel background was made using the Nordic stencil and the wet pencils on the dry stencil technique - spritz lightly with water and monoprint onto the substrate - in this case mixed media paper.

The small panel using mini deco leaf stencil in various greens was again using wet to dry ie wet DWP paint to dry stencil.

The die-cut flowers were washed with clean water and dribbles of DWP puddles added in with a small brush.

To put the panel together I added some snippets....

....some inked mummy cloth and a Tim stamped sentiment.

Seaside Project 2 - Tim Holtz Seahorse frame for Country View Crafts

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

'Anything Seaside' is still a challenge title for June at Country View Challenges on FaceBook.

My choice has been to decorate and make a frame that sits nicely with the idea of being beside the sea on a lovely summer's day.

I love to use up scraps and inky backgrounds and some shapes have been reworked with leftovers taken from my bits folders. I have also used a number of older dies and stamp sets.

Seahorse cut from TH Sand and Sea Bigz die. Not readily available any more. Stencilled with the new mini leaf stencil using distress crackle paste sprinkled with Tattered Rose distress glaze. Later I sanded the texture and rubbed over vintage photo and unchartered mariner distress inks.

Starfish stamped and cut using Nautical Blueprint CMS194 and Rusty Hinge, Ripe Persimmon and Scattered Straw Distress Watercolour Pencils. Dried and overstamped with Vermillion archival and Scorched Timber distress ink. Over that I applied distress crackle paste and when the crackles had appeared and it was dry I rubbed in walnut stain distress ink.

The frame and background in the aperture were created just by dipping into DWP puddles and drying. Distress crackle paste was applied round the edges and had unchartered mariner rubbed into them when dry. Splattered with white ink.

The sentiment is my own, produced on the computer.

Playing with Distress Watercolor Pencils - choosing the right stamps to colour up.

Playtime just for me recently - no challenges or FB posts to think about just me wanting to explore how different stamps would work with the Distress Watercolor Pencils (DWPs) how they would stamp, the effects achieved and what to look out for when choosing my next stamps to work with.

Process steps -

Create a distress background with the dip, drip and dry method.

I haven't photographed it but I used a stamp platform for this technique which allows me to stamp over the same image as many times as I want as long as I don't remove the stamp.

I used wet DWPs on the stamp to get some depth of colour. To get them wet I just dipped them in a jar of water for a few seconds to activate the pigment and scribbled over the places I wanted the colour to be.

This stamp is from an old set of Tim Holtz stamps - Distress Damask CMS190 and although I love the damask designs this is definitely a stamp I would not use with the DWPs again. The etching of the stamps is so fine in many places the pigment from the pencils just lay in the tiny crevices and it was very hard to get a good outline of the images in it.
I will definitely add this to my new watercolour book as a reference point reminding me to look for stamps that have nice flat areas and space to get a good stamp from the coloured images.
Here you can see that I lay my wet pencils on a piece of kitchen roll between dippings and at times some colours might get to close to other pencils and leave some pigment behind on them.
I gently use damp kitchen roll or a babywipe to clean them up and leave them out for a while to dry out before putting them back in their tins.

Be Inspired

Embossed panel collage - Be Inspired

A new collage for my 'Mixed Media Collages' art book. I love combining papers and other elements to create what I feel is an interesting and balanced work of art.

The layers on this collage include texture created with an embossing folder,

a heat embossed pattern mounted onto grey card,

ephemera pieces, a printed royal mail frank from an envelope, royalty free images from the internet,

punched and diecut pieces, washi tape

and stamped images.

If you have visited today,
thank you for stopping by.
