Challenge #3 - Back to School Treat
Here we are for the final day of the Back To School - Anything but a Card - Challenge!
I created a bookmark using a jumbo paperclip, a star-shaped chipboard, and the popular Woodware Clear Stamps School Tots set!
I covered the pre-cut star chipboard with silver mirror cardstock, adhered a black and white polka dot chipboard circle over the star, then paper-pieced and colored the little school girl tot with Copics. I printed out the sentiment "You're a Shining Star" on the computer, punched it out and covered it with Hologram Stickles. Added Xmas Red Stickles to the little girl's skirt and the ribbons in her hair.
Thanks for stopping by today! Be sure to check back again tomorrow -- Bonnie will be launching a new challenge for the Design Team to show you more Woodware sets!!
Hugs,
Anne

School Treats...
Kerry writes:
About a week ago, I was in a local fabric store and I discovered a whole shopping cart of empty little boxes. Their thread shipment had arrived and they were unpacking and shelving all the tiny bobbins of thread. I spied these boxes and thought they would make perfect little treat boxes! So I headed over to the front desk and said "This may sound strange, but if you are going to throw those thread boxes out, can I have them?" They giggled and said I could have as many as I wanted! WOO HOO...SCORE!
I brought them home (I think I got about 30 of these little boxes) and started making some little boxes up for my students. Some of you may know that I'm a teacher, and I always love to have a little treat for my students on the first day of school. The box is filled with an eraser, a pencil sharpener, and a peppermint. Why a peppermint? Peppermints have been found to boost test scores!
Stamp sets used: School Tots (apple), Mixed Greetings (happy and part of the word birthday) Paper: The Paper Loft (Well Worn Collection)
Nancy's project uses the set School Tots, and this is called a criss cross box. You can find the tutorial HERE. It is a fun little box to make to house any kind of treats! The paper is from Stampin' Up (Riding Hood Red designer paper and cardstock, and Night of Navy cardstock. I used circle punches for the School Days and apple stamps, and I cut the image of the little girl out after coloring her with Copic markers. For more information, please visit Nancy's blog.

Challenge #3: Hello!
Thursday, August 26, 2010
Fairy Dust for School...
I decided to make a little Chocolate filled gift for a friend that is starting College classes...who doesn't need chocolate for class? I used Fairy Tots and decorated a DieCuts & More Circle Window Square Box...it is so easy, it is all cut out, scored and the window is done...all I did was stamp the butterflies and add the acetate! The stamped image didn't show up well against the bright colored candy, so I added a little Polka Dot Embossed circle of white paper behind it, letting a little of the acetate still show so the candy peeks out...
Here is a peek at the fun Bright Sixlets inside...
And a close up of the details...
Supplies:
Stamps: Fairy Tots (Woodware USA)
Paper: Die Cut Box, Acetate, White CS
Ink: Staz-On, Copic Markers, White Pigment Ink
Misc: Grosgrain Ribbon, Zva Felt Flower, Imaginisce Glitter Brad, Imaginisce Flower, Gem Brad
Come back tomorrow for more Anything but a Card projects!!

Challenge #2 - Favorite Technique - Heat Embossing
It's me, Anne, today! I have the final sample for you this week featuring our DT's Favorite Techniques!
This was a tough call because there's ALWAYS a new technique and each time I try one it's my "new" Favorite Technique! But I have to say, I fell in love with card making when I learned how to heat emboss, so that is the technique I chose as my favorite! Heat embossing is the basis for so many different techniques. My card today is made using heat embossing to do the "Stained Glass" technique.
I used a leafy image from Woodware's fabulous "Flora" stamp set!! The images in this set are totally unique, I have loved playing with them!
I used black pigment ink to stamp the image and embossed with CLEAR embossing powder onto my velum cardstock. I colored the REVERSE side with dye ink pens.
The image is layered with the embossed side facing out.
Hope you've enjoyed the samples this week all created with Woodware stamps!! Please check in again tomorrow for the start of a brand new challenge!! A new card is posted EVERY DAY here on the Woodware blog!!
Hugs,
Anne

What's YOUR favorite technique???
Kerry writes:
I really love experimenting and playing around with different techniques. Over five years ago, I went to an art show in Maryland and saw an artist doing something that fascinated me. This artist painted in layers...Not what you think...paint on top of paint on top of paint...Actually, the artist created his scene of depth and intensity by painting parts of a whole on individual panes of glass then stacking them one on top of the other (with spacers) to create depth. I minored in Art Education in college so this reminded me of an ancient technique of Reverse Painting...but with a twist. So as a teacher, there's always something in me to teach a little. If you want an art history lesson today, CLICK HERE to read about the history of this technique.
When I observed his work, all I could think of was my stamping. I knew this ancient technique could be a stamper's dream...So I tried using clear acetate, ink, my stamps, and of course, acrylic paints.
I created two different cards with the same materials, just a twist on the layout and a few additional embellishments. I used Mixed Greetings because not only does it have some great sentiments in various fonts, it also has little icon images (like the cupcake) that are perfect for cards!
So it was about five years ago that I first tried reverse painting on acetate and I just LOVE it. If you create something with this technique, please share, we'd love to see it!!!

Nancy writes:
I'm not a fancy technique kind of gal, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve. I chose to highlight dry embossing because, above all, it is my favorite technique. The addition of texture to any project is just awesome!! I suppose you could count coloring with Copics and using scissors to cut out images as technique, but the dry embossing will have to do today! I used the adorable set Jungle Pals for my card today. It is a fun, versatile set, and I plan to use this card for a little boy's birthday very soon! For more information about this card, please visit my blog HERE. Thanks for stopping by today...we hope you enjoyed the samples from the design team!! Play along with us, and I'd love to see you send some submissions made with Woodware USA stamps.

Create A Project Using
Your Favorite Technique!
My fave technique by far is along the CLEAN AND SIMPLE style, and my fave technique is using the sentiment as the focal point of your greeting -- not a lot of images!
For me, it's easy to create an eye-catching card using just color and the perfect sentiment!
That's all you need!

to show you:
Happy Birthday
in Pink and Goldenrod!

From elegant, to manly, and everywhere in between, the color challenge this week (Kraft/tan, Teal, and Red) has given us many opportunities to showcase awesome clear stamp sets from the WoodwareUSA collection and we hope that you have found a set (or two or more...) that have become NEEDS on your stamping inventory.
Nancy has used the set MARY AND FRIENDS FRCL131 to highlight this week's color challenge. She has used designer paper from My Mind's Eye called Love Me Do. Design Team Meet and Greet
I've been crafting all of my life, but I discovered scrapbooking 13 years ago and stamping 5 years ago while living here in Charlotte, North Carolina. There is no going back...every event is a scrapbook page; every occasion needs a card. My 5 year old daughter is my crafting sidekick, and we come up with all sorts of projects in "our" craft room, so I had to include her in my bio picture. We let my husband come and visit sometimes, but he has yet to catch the fever that we have. I enjoy challenges, and I try to play along with several every chance I get. I'm currently designing for Flutter By Wednesday Challenge, Party Time Tuesdays, Scrapmaster's Paradise, and Sugar Creek Hollow.
I have been married for almost 29 years to my awesome husband Bruce, and we have a 20 year old daughter and 3 funny and adorable cats. We live in Northern California. I first started making cards with Mrs Grossman's stickers about 5 years ago - I wanted to send them to my daughter at over night camp. I later discovered stamps and thought that was a much cheaper route to go - yeah right!! When I am not stamping I love to hike, read and travel.
I’ve been “crafty” in many different areas ever since I can remember. About 9 years ago I discovered paper crafts and stamping at a home stamping party. From that point on, the more I learned and collected, the more I pursued this art form. I still feel like I am just getting started! I tend to go through phases of stamping techniques and products and try to keep on top of what’s new.
I’m a former Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and I’ve designed for a couple of different stamp company design teams and “challenge” teams. Currently I hold workshops on request and sell my cards and paper craft gifts in an independently owned boutique shop in NM and on-line at my Etsy Store.
