Final Dakkajet finished!

I've just finished painting my 3rd and final Dakkajet. I managed to get it done just in time to use all three at tonights gaming night. The list I'm using is a Warboss on bike + nob bikers, Wazdakka Gutsmek + a big squad of bikers and the 3 dakkajets. It doesn't seem like much but there's a lot of S5 and S6 twin linked shots. I just hope I don't play against someone with armour 13/14.

I didn't really like this dakkajet when I was making it, I was sure it was going to be a massive failure. But I think it turned out alright in the end. Now I wish I could take them as squadrons so I can make more and crazier dakkajets.

The Dakka Skwadron is complete!
Now to see how they fare in a normal 6th edition game.

2 dakkajets from 1 dakkajet kit - plane 1 Finished!

My 2nd Dakkajet, part of my 2 dakkajets from 1 kit project is now finished (except for the base). Those windows are a pain (pun intended) to paint.

For this kit I scratch built the wings and used the fuselage from the GW kit. The other Dakkajet has a scratch built body and wings from the kit and is a propeller aircraft instead of a jet.

Not really much to say about the painting, it was done in the same way as the last Dakkajet.

Anyway. Pics.... lots of pics:

2 down, 1 to go.
Tune in tomorrow for my work in progress pics for the hideous 3rd dakkajet. Looks a bit like a flying box.

Ghost Arks and Command Barge finished (probably)

I've pretty much finished my Ghost Arks and Command Barge. I'll probably make a few adjustments at some point but I've done enough for now.

I have to say, Ghost Arks are the most annoying vehicle from GW that I've ever painted!! So Many awkward angles, so much surface area and it uses so much paint! And the moving guns..... so awkward to make sure they'd move. One of them got stuck and snapped the assembly it was attached to.

The command barge was alright to paint, still some fiddly details and overlapping parts that I should've painted before glueing.

One thing that painting me has convinced me of, Necrons look good with verdigris. I'll make that modification to my stuff over time I think. No rush.

Anyway, enough rambling. Some pics.

GW Airbrush initial review

I finally got round to assembling my Necron vehicles that I bought when the codex was released. When making them I realised that they were all going to be an absolute nightmare to paint. My initial thought was that you paint lots of bits before assembling. There are LOTS of bits that would need painting seperately and there is a hell of a lot of surface area to paint with a paint brush!

So I needed an alternative.... the GW airbrush came to mind. Its not too expensive so if it was a complete failure I wouldn't be too disappointed and I would test it on something else first anyway.

It arrived in the post today and I tried it in my lunch break. I found a poor unsuspecting genestealer that wasn't even undercoated. I loaded the airbrush with a tiny amount of tallarn flesh foundation paint and some water (about 50/50 mix).

The first thing I noticed was how powerful the air flow is. If you're painting small models you either need to stick them down or hold them in your hand or they'll get blown away as my genestealer did. I decided to hold it in my fingers.

The flow of paint out of the airbrush was really fine and consistent, much better than experiences I've had with aerosol undercoates.

After a few goings over I was left with a darkish flesh coloured genestealer. It was a great and quite even coat, no running or pooling. One thing I really like is that the details are still very crisp whereas if I'd painted it with a brush I would expect to loose a tad of crispness. The surface was also very smooth as there was no brush strokes.

All in all I'm pleasantly surprised with the good job it did. I look forward to dousing my Necron vehicles with devlan mud with it after I've undercoated them with silver army painter spray. It should reduce the painting time of my Necrons massively!
