More Kingdom Death models painted - White Lion, Screaming Antelope and Prologue survivors

I've been going nuts with the painting recently with all the hype around the expansions being sent out. Got everything I need painted to get started playing the game now. Now I just need to find some unfortunate souls to play it with.

Kingdom Death Phoenix - painted

With the Kingdom Death expansions from the Kickstarter being sent out in the post now it gave me a kick in the backside to actually paint some of the models. I have started with perhaps not the easiest model from the game, the Phoenix. The Phoenix is some sort of horror nightmare bird/human hybrid with hands protruding from places that they normally shouldn't be for extra WTF. Assembling the monster was a nightmare too because of all the little hands that have to be individually stuck on and they only fit in certain places and there were no instructions, luckily some people on the web have posted up instructions of what fits where but it was still hard work. The rest of the model went together easily and being plastic there was no pinning necessary.

Painting the Phoenix

This model seems at the same time to be really detailed and not really detailed. It was relatively quick to paint as there were lots of details but they were repeated, i.e. lots of hands, lots of feathers etc. rather than a say a GW inquisitor model with lots of individual unique details requiring different colours. The hands were a bit of a pain because of all the different angles to paint but the result was worth it. I tried to paint it like a vulture but somehow ended up doing my usual generic flesh colours, whatever works and is easy I suppose.

I didn't take a picture of his backside, you can google that if you want to see why lol.

He's big!

The Kingdom Death Kickstarter raised $2,049,721!!!!!! XD

Wow!

I've been sitting here refreshing the page for the last 2 hours while watching Star Trek and this has just gone crazy! In the last few days the kickstarter has doubled from $1 million to $2 million. I increased my pledge a few days ago to add in some extra beasties but I wish I could pledge more. As it is there's going to be soooo much coming in the post (eventually) that I won't know where to start. I'm looking forward to attempting to paint these collosal monsters.

If you missed the Kickstarter project then it sucks to be you. You'll have to wait for the retail version of the game to come out.

Kingdom Death Forsaker Unboxing

Today I got in the post my Forsaker from Kingdom Death. Some people will be familiar with Kingdom Death and some will not. It is a properly adult horror RPG (none of this PG13 crap that has creeped in everywhere) in development and they have released some limited edition models for it. Some of the models are a bit controversial like the very NSFW Wetnurse and the also NSFW Scribe. The models look highly detailed, spectacular and quite mindwarping. I couldn't resist the urge to buy something so I ordered the Forsaker as he looked cool and wasn't too expensive for a trial model.

It arrived today and I excitedly opened the box. Inside there was a lovely art card and a sort of limited edition certificate inside a protective sleeve. Underneath that there was the box with the model in it. The sturdy box has a print of the model on it. Inside the box there was yet another art card, with the head and torso of the forsaker on the reverse. Underneath that was the actual model.

The model itself looks very detailed. Its along the lines of a Forgeworld resin model, possibly a bit better as it seems a bit sturdier and has some very small details like the horns. So far I've only found a couple of tiny bubbles in the resin and they're in easy to fix places. Being resin I was worried that there might be missing bits of horn and such but I'm really impressed with their casting to get all the sharp tiny edges out and delivering it intact. The only warping that I can't find is in the sword but this should be easy enough to fix.

The base is a bit bizarre and I'm not entirely sure what to do with it. It is made of 2 discs, one with a lipped edge that a slightly smaller disc sits in. The larger disc has 30mm written on it in big letters on one side and a phoenix with 'I (heart) Poots' written on in on the other. I think I'll just glue the forsaker to the smaller disc and worry about the other one when the game comes out.

Overall I'm very impressed with the combined product. The packaging is good and sturdy, the model is spectacular and the extras are a nice touch too. I just hope I can do the model justice when I paint it.
