Traveling to California Wine Country

Y'all know I have spent a lot of time in Wine Country . . . But this was a new adventure for me.
I actually flew out to meet friends in Los Alamos ~ California wine country!

You could almost see the Hollywood sign as we flew into LAX.

The drive up the pacific coast hiway in my rented convertible (ok... not really!) was amazing. Those beaches are so different for 'our' white sandy beaches.
This area north of Santa Barbara is such a beautiful area. There Lovely vineyards and rolling hills.
Of course I had to get my GPS to direct me to the nearest Trader Joe's to pick up my share of appetizers and snackies.

We stayed at the Skyview Motel. . . a real throw back to the roadside motels that we remember growing up.
Our first stop was at Zuca Mesa Winery, then right down the road fun and funky Martian Vineyard. The scenery was Beautiful, and the local growers were so proud of their nice wines.

Our last stop of the day was Frequency Wines in Los Alamos, another very good boutique winery. I liked the glass so much I had to bring one home.
Most fun of all . . . Sharing it all, sharing fun memories with long time Slow Traveling friends.

PhotoHunt ~ Smooth

The PhotoHunt today is 'Smooth'

Santa isn't the only one who is putting in some air time . . . I am going to be doing a lot of flying this weekend to get my Holiday visiting done.
First, to Charlotte for a little 'LuLu' time ~
Then to the gulf coast to ring in the New Year.

I am hoping for 'smooth' flights!

Traveling to the Rivah Cottage

Last weekend I took a quick trip to Boston . . . Actually to the Rivah Cottage on the 'South Shore'

The river rises at high tide and this grass is under water, as the tide flows back to the ocean it leaves these waves of green grass. The marsh is beautiful this time of year.

(Pronounced "Mahsh" )
Summers in New England are perfect.

The weather has started to turn cooler here in Alabama . . . which would mean this is the perfect time for a road trip to the lake ~

We have some beautiful lakes near us . . .
Where you could enjoy a rocking chair on the porch.

I'm not so sure about this mode of transportation . . .

I am sharing this sunset from our beautiful gulf coast.
This was snapped with a phone camera . . .

An Auburn Weekend

Bill and I went to Auburn for a quick weekend with family ~ isn't that what the holidays are all about?
A roadtrip to grandmother's house . . .

Even though Auburn is a huge University town . . . to me it is just a small town.
A beautiful small town~

We grew up in Auburn ~ back when Toomer's was really a drug store!
It was the place to get a lemonaide ~

This photo of the great oak trees on Toomer's Corner is so sad to me.
They are trying to decide what to do with the corner ~ the trees were poisioned 2 years ago and will obviously have to be cut down.

We didn't need them much for toilet paper this year anyhoo ~

While we were there ~ we did a little shopping in town.
Of course . . .  Ware's Jewelry has been there like forever!!

Where else could you buy orange and blue pearls or one of oddles of 'tree' designs.

This hasn't been the best year for War Eagle fans ~ But now we are on the 'Gus Bus'
We are hoping for better things in 2013!

We will both be pulling for Alabama in the National Championship against Notre Dame ~

Travel Tuesdays

Just time for a quick Traveling Tuesday . . .

This included a quick trip to Atlanta to visit with friends.
Of course ~ ANY trip to Atlanta includes a trip to Trader Joe's !
We don't have one in Birmngham, so once I get to TJs I have to stock up on everything from corn salsa to 2buck Chuck.

Traveling Tuesdays ~ Dish

This weekend I took a special road trip to Charlotte for a quick road trip. We decided we needed to try out Dish.
It is a local 'meat and three', similar to the WhistleStop Cafe ~ with a twist!
Guy from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives recommended it . . . So I thought I'd better give their Fried Green Tomatoes a try.
Just the right amount of batter and a kicked up Horsey dip.
Awesome!
The chicken fried steak, meatloaf, and salmon patties were all great. The special side dish of deviled eggs are their signature.
Hope was the only one in the building who was not impressed.
We'll be going back again and again.

Traveling Tuesdays ~ Let's Go!

It's Tuesday ~ time for a little traveling . . .
How 'bout a little train ride to Haslemere? Haslemere is in Surrey, just about an hour's train ride from the Waterloo station. It is a charming town surrounded by woodlands that are protected by The National Trust.
Best of all . . . Holly has dear friends who live just outside the town. They have a fabulous home on the edge of the National Trust. They have recently redone their kitchen . . . Oh My! I would give anything to cook on that Aga stove.
Consuelo is a wonderful cook. She had also made some Elderflower cordial, from elderflowers she had collected. It was light, sweet and 'floral' . . . what a treat! We enjoyed a lovely day outside ~ enjoying that British sunshine.
