Chuffed!

Okay my sweet Whippy readers - stuff does still happen here at Whippy Good Whippet-haus.  Freedom has arrived in the form of Uni finish for 2013 - OMG - what a weight is lifted from my thinking brain and broad shoulders hehe!

A little packet of Amy Butlers Soul Blossom charm squares has sat on my desk for a while, looking at me, wooing me over, until I could take it No More - a little or rather, big-little blankie for my sewing machine - the colours are so so so pretty, with a dash of Kaffe thrown in for good measure - the colours scream SPRING to me - maybe a garish Spring but I like that!!

DD2 overpainted a school project that she had never liked and off her own bat,

created another masterpiece

I saw this in an Oxfam shop window - so much prettier than the photo

and this is a Great Idea for those elusive machines thrown on the side of the road, yeah right, but I do love the succulents!  I want this in my garden!

Just a 'little' montage of my just completed Staple Dress; it was a pdf download, printed out, stuck together, transfered onto interfacing as the template and sewn together!!  I am just a little bit CHUFFED! (As a side note - I like Urban Dictionary's definition no. 3   To be quite pleased with oneself in the manner of a child going potty unassisted. Yes I can go to potty unassisted AND I can sew a dress!!!  Baby, if I can sew a dress, then anyone can, Truly Truly.

Instructions were great - except for the pockets - I didn't understand one word of it really, but just closed my eyes and crossed my fingers -yes, I did this and sewed at the same time ;)  and they came out Okay!  The shirring didn't quite work either - I decided to just do the back - I got one row to work, but couldn't get the elastic to repeat its magic again....that's fine - I'll wear it with a belt I think, which does the same thing really.

The family were Very Impressed.  "Did you buy that today?"  NO hehehe, I Made It!!

Wow Mum, it looks Great.....ahhhhh music to a sewer's ears.  Hubbie spotted my excellence in sewing the neck and armhole facings and loved the dress, the colour, the pockets and me in it!
Love that man!!

Blues and Greens should always be seen!

Some shots of sewing - DD1 chose and made cushions for her bed

DD2 knitted her Very First Scarf - she threw her self into the project with gusto!

Some vintage bazaar hunting and buying! I've been a bit of a personal shopper recently and it is fun!

A local Patchwork shop had these beautiful things - Wendy would be proud of my green choices - could not leave them there!

The multi print I could base a whole quilt around!

The ubiquitous family shots at the beach - coming here always brings us closer together and helps us 'breathe'

My most favourite buy this year - a Harris Tweed 'jerkin' - what a treasured find!!!

Animal Farm skirt

Simplicity 2226
Saw it round the traps....Jennifer, Anna,(Anna has a sew-along tute of this too - ACE!) and Bec too, with a super cute skirt worn to latest SASE with MMQG
Had some g-or-geous linen blend fabric by Isso Ecco
Thought I would cut it up!
I am actually 3 days late for Curly Pops May Skirt Sew Along - but that's me, always trying to catch up to the popular kids...besides, I was thinking and planning in May, does that count?

I am absolutely amazed that I have 99.9% finished this skirt and it is not bad, if I say so myself....not great, not terrific, not spectacular, but not terrible too
Clothing patterns typically do my head in; the instructions never seem to match the pictures (if there are any) and the jargon is beyond me sometimes

 But
After a few curse words with gathering (so hard to get it right and the threads always break), then unpicking the yoke 3 times, the zip was a whole other matter  - I got through it on a wing and a prayer...please don't ask me how to put a zip into a skirt...I still don't know ;)

the end result I think is kinda cute and hopefully I will wearing it to Canberra this weekend - I'm going to need thick thick tights and merino singlets and my biggest cowl neck scarf I can muster

Ruby's not so sure about the 'all animals are equal' business...she definitely is more equal than others!

Wild Whippets. Somehow the country life may be a little harsh for these city gals?

Is this the saddest face ever?

Woke up this morning to find Ruby had slashed her chest open and I mean open - ewww again, a big, long hole! - can you see the 'millions' of stitches on her little pink chest (more than double is hiding in the photo)?

We had left the dogs out at night as the whole family was out doing thangs and as it was such a hot night, the dogs would love it!  DD1 put the dogs to bed late and said that she didn't really notice anything different about Ruby, and the vet said she thought the wound was less than 6 hours old - which means that it happened to her over night???  While she was safely tucked up in bed!

I got the smallest wriggle of a tail wave when I came home from work today
Made me love her even more.

The blues

My 'British Blues' - a range of blues, greens, mauves and lavenders called Coloured Dreams by Fabric Freedom - I got a jelly roll while in the UK last year and found a quick and easy pattern called Basket Case!

Laying out the rows at MMQG yesterday, I had some help from friends to make sure pairs weren't touching and that the overall look was 'messy' enough to be 'right'!!

Lynne suggested taking a black and white photo - helps to see the darks are distributed randomly enough
I think they are...

Anyone else got Powercam on their iPhone?   What absolute fun!!!

This one is TCVGA..whatever that means...

This one is Solarize...

I couldn't resist Granny Squares...my new scrap project!

Though I certainly add to my scrap bag more than I take out I'm absolutely sure!!

Floaty bubbles!...

Some toes in some favourite Birkers...

This one has had the blues.....Ruby fell and scraped the skin off her kneecap

...ewwww I saw bone!!

$445 later, she's getting lots of cuddles telling her not to do that again!....

We call her Conehead now....
