VIET ACCÉNT

Last year was full of surprises, scandals and many "wth" or what the hell moments. 2007 was probably the year of the most ludicrous protesting from the Vietnamese community against the entertainment industry. Trịnh Hội was introduced as emcee for Asia and everyone loved him until people in Australia started boycotting him and his wife Kỳ Duyên starting off a series of back and forth writings justifying ones act . Later on the newspaper Viet Weekly became the next target causing them to go out of business. No one forgot the belt incident of singer Tommy Ngô , and to think that the community had nothing else to do. Another incident broke out when naming a new plaza in northern California in San Jose became an issue. The community who sent Madison Nguyễn into office decided to take her down after demanding to name the new plaza another " Little Saigon " failed. As you probably all know by now that Jennifer Pham is pregnant. It was first reported at mautam.org about the pregnancy news, however Jennifer denies in Viet Weekly magazine . The reason behind the denial claimed sources was to cover up the embarrassment of a pregnancy before marriage. Mautam.org continues to stand by their story and said that time will tell. And as predicted, Quang Dung broke the news in an interview that Jennifer is expecting. The baby should be due sometimes in May, counting on that she’s around 2 months pregnant. If we count from August when Mautam.org broke the news, the baby should be due in March. Let’s see what happens.

Jennifer Pham appeared on the cover of Viet Weekly denying the baby rumor that said she was supposedly three months pregnant with husband Quang Dung . Along with the pregnancy rumors, Jennifer also answered other questions such as marrying a gay husband. She replied that the rumor about Quang Dung being gay is not true. She believes that being a public figure there will always be people who are jealous and envious that they will spread bad rumors. Jennifer claims that she knows Quang Dung well and so she doesn’t believe the rumor to be true. And when asked how many kids she plans to have, Jennifer replies two or three. You probably heard about the protesting against Việt Weekly . It was a big story and is still going on with people talking about the incident. The magazine creator had to sell their magazines on the street for a cheap price since Vietnamese community in California ran them out of business. Apparently Viet Weekly was seemed to have flavor communism and communist in Vietnam. The reason I’m writing something about this because I keep coming across articles about allegations and accusations about the matter. As you know Trinh Hoi was in trouble again with the community by “writing an op-ed piece to the BBC to denounce the hypocrisy of those opposing Viet Weekly ” ( VSB , VW 5-25 ). I don’t want to say too much on how I feel about the whole thing. I just feel that a person like Trinh Hoi who have done so much and fighting for refuges is seen as a traitor.
