EATAPETA

Remember, guys. Today is International Eat An Animal For PETA Day.

If it had a face, have at it.

I'll be spending my lunch hour at the delightful TC's Rib Crib, a fabulously homey place owned and operated by a family of Louisiana transplants. They'd been driven here by Katrina, so eating there feels like a good cause, too.

It doesn't hurt that their BBQ kicks butt. Pork butt. With lots of sauce.

Oh yeah. I had cow for lunch. Spaghetti. Lovin' it. Having tacos tonight. Wish I had planned ahead and had a steak thawed out.

Oh well. Tomorrow's a good day also.

I had steak last night. Ribeyes on the grill. So very tasty.

And Cullen, every day is a good day for steak.

Just don't tell your arteries.

Every day is also a good day for the second part of tomorrow's celebration.

Regarding steak, however:

I read the whole thing. You are a grilling god.

We got a great tip from Cook's Illustrated about aging meat at home. If you get beef at the store and want to dry-age it a little, unwrap it, set in on a wire cooling rack set on a paper-towel-lined cookie sheet and put it on the bottom shelf of the fridge for up to three days before cooking.

It really works! We've noticed a huge difference in tenderness even after one day of aging.

I was wondering if someone was going to bring up Steak and blow job day. I couldn't remember when it was. Is it the 14th or the 16th?

Either way, it seems as if one of you was celebrating ;)

Beef and BJ Day was yesterday.

And yes, there was much celebrating.

Yes, dammit. I thought it was today also (hence my comments above). Of course the 14th makes more sense.

Well, Cullen, you could almost say that EVERY day is S&BJ Day.

I don't know if your wife will agree, but it doesn't hurt to try.

;-)

Obviously you didn't wear braces.
