While you wait for Erin's version of the birth story, I figured I'd share something in the meantime. Everything went very well and we happily welcome Miles Fife Whitmer into our family. Here is a rough timeline of August 2nd:
5:00AM - Erin starts to experience some contractions
5:30AM - Erin downloads an app to track contractions on her phone
8:00AM - Erin lets me know that her contractions have been consistently 10 minutes apart
8:30AM - We leave for the hospital, dropping our kids off at Kori's house (Erin's sister)
9:00AM - Get to the hospital and get checked in, move to triage to check contractions
9:50AM - The machine ran for awhile and only saw two contractions, so Erin was sure we were about to get sent home for false labor. The midwife checked her and she was dilated to a 5 and 100% effaced. Erin was admitted.
9:50AM to 12:30PM - Erin wanted to have a 'normal' labor, so we walked around the halls a couple times and she hung out in a blowup pool in the room. By 12:15 her contractions were more powerful but the midwives changed shifts at 12:30 so they waited for the new midwife before checking her again.
12:35PM - The new midwife comes in and checks Erin. Erin is fully dilated and ready to go.
12:50PM - Erin's water breaks
12:53PM - Miles Fife Whitmer is born, 6lbs and very healthy
12:53PM to 3:00PM - Miles lays right against Erin and does really well feeding
Erin and Miles were discharged the next day a little after 1pm and we have been doing great since! We appreciate all the well wishes and meals!
