2012 – The Year of Beards
Another year has slowly sailed on by, leaving us to do the
trend of looking back over our year in the hobby and discuss. So, I’m going to do just that.

Secret Santa: Necromancer
So, entering into the later stages of December I have had to push myself to finish this guy off. I just have the base to complete now and he is ready to be sent off to a fellow forum member.
The book I really happy with, perhaps the little sketches could have been done a little better but the worn look I think works really well. You can see it better in the second photo.
The skull top does look a little bland but is better in person. It's an old GW skull and seems to lack much definition.
I'm still really happy with the red, turned out well despite almost being purple.
Hopefully before the New Year I'll have this guy done and then sent off.

Display time!
I have finally got my display cabinet sorted! It has only been about three months, but finally I can get the dwarfs out for display. This is all the dwarfs I have painted and based for the new look dwarf army. I have also put on the top shelf the random minis I have painted and have with me (there are still some at the parents or need some repainting).

Slayer finished, and ended auctions
So, finally, the slayer is done. I had a ball of a time painting him up, and he made me remember that I love to paint dwarfs and I think I'm quite good at it! This guy was also a reminder to try new stuff - the tattoos and the banner for example - and only with practise will I improve.

Dwarf Slayer nearly there
Right, been a little while but I have slowly been working on this slayer. I was going to avoid tattoos, but then I figured that a slayer without isn't just a slayer. So, I added some simple designs. I need to do freehand to improve upon it. I might revisit it before the mini is done. Just the base left now.

Ebay Items - Including the Blood Bowl Team!
So, I finally got around to posting this on ebay. I am a novice at this, so the description/posting might be a bit lame. I'm hoping it'll go for a decent amount. I have also put some other older stuff up as well.
Here's hoping!
http://r.ebay.com/eJZOiI - Blood Bowl Team
http://r.ebay.com/HHfzM5 - Warrior Priest with great weapon
http://r.ebay.com/1Kgwgz - Blood Angel Librarian Conversion

http://r.ebay.com/aiMJRm - Death Company with Jump Packs

Cheers for any interest. I am hoping to get more work on the slayer this weekend.

Dwarf Slayer WIP
Tonight I started on the slayer for the dwarf contest being held on Librarium Online. I haven't painted such a lot of flesh for some time, so I was practising painting some skin and working on my blending/highlighting. The hair was blocked in to show where it all is and work around it. So here he is when the flesh was started.

Blood Bow Team - COMPLETED!!
THEY. ARE. FINALLY. DONE.
Yes. As you might have guessed over this last month I have been painting up a blood bowl team to be sold off. It has been one hell of a slog. Too much of one really. But they are done and I'm happy to sell them off, and I think I never want to touch yellow paint over again. You have all seen the players before, but I'm going to put up pictures anyway, the thing to show this time are the markers.

Blood Bowl team is almost done.
They are nearly done! Finally. I am a bit sick and tired of this team now, but also pretty damn pleased with them. They all have numbers on and completed bases. The bases I took from my dwarf team I have done before, but added some mud patches to make it look like the pitch was well played. I think it turned out really well.
Below are some pictures. I now have a few more things to paint up, a turn, score and two re-roll markers. Pictures of them will be incoming later this week.

Getting there
It has been a little while but I've been busy. This week has been the fiancée's birthday, then a gig to see Marcus Brigstock, a gaming night and drinks. All in all a full week. I did find a small amount of time to get some painting done. I now have three quarters of a completed team. So close! Three more to go, then I need to add numbers, bases and doing some markers.
I am stuck on the markers though, I am thinking an eagle for the turn marker but other than that I am currently at a loss.

[Blood Bowl] Continuing the Team
Slowly been working on these guys and now have two more members painted up bringing the total to three. I am really happy with the yellow, it doesn't show in these quick pictures but it is really quite vibrant. The glove and ball has been done red-brown to make them stand out from brown. I'm going to paint numbers on the shoulder pads at a later time, after they are done.

[Blood Bowl] Human Team Test Model
Right, it has been a while since I have done any posting. I have painted up a single player for a Blood Bowl team that I am hoping to sell on ebay, when they're all done. It has been a while since I painted anything but this guy I really like the look of (am I going to have a hard time letting go...?). I decided to go with colours for Solland; yellow and black for the team to make them stand out. The team will be the human team that comes with the boxed set, and I'm likely to make some markers for turn, score and re-rolls as well (like the dwarf team I did a while back). The yellow is a little stronger/brighter in person.
Anyway, here he is. Would you buy a team of these guys? Oh, and I'm currently unsure whether to put numbers on the shoulder pad or a freehanded symbol. My other idea was to put a number on the yellow leg. I'm also not sure about the silver on the pad and might consider a bronze colour instead.

The end of the Dwarfs... for now
As per my last post I have recenly moved from a small flat with the girlfriend to a huge three bedroom house. I was excited to have a gaming room all to myself to paint in and such but due to issues we still haven't gotten around to unpacking and sorting that out just yet. I'm looking forward to it, but have decided that I am more likely to paint downstairs so that room will be out gaming room. Oh yes, our. We have a sofa up there and will be looking for a table big enough to support a gaming board. The girl friend and I do like playing boardgames (myself more than her) and so having somewhere I can go out of the way to play them, is awesome. But it also means that I'm looking to get a gaming table, and thus terrain. This would be one of my first tables I will have. Looking forward to that project. And cupboards to display the armies, not hidden away. :D
But what does this have to do with the Dwarfs? I realised I had these ten left over from before the move and rather than just jump onto a new project, I might as well finish them. Turns out, it didn't take long. So, with these ten my dwarf army is at 2500pts. I am not amazingly happy with the list, so will still be adding models and units to expand it, but it is a decent start.
I have another project lined up, but next week I am off to France for a week with the girl friend, so maybe the week after you'll see pictures. Watch out for twitter and here! But for now, the dwarfs are done.

On to the next project
It has been a while since I have painted anything, and will be at least another week but I have a project in mind. This Tuesday I move into a house with the girl friend (rented still) and it has an awesome little room that is going to be a 'study' aka my geek room. :D So this week has been full of boxes and bags as we're trying to get everything sorted out and ready.
But this hasn't stopped me making plans! I have a whole bunch of ideas on how to expand my current armies and how to do more painting. It also comes from wanting to clear some stuff out which I'm not going to use, the first item on my list is a human blood bowl team. This will be going up on ebay, and hopefully will do as well as the Dwarf team a few years ago did. I was thinking of names and colours for them, and at first I thought of the usual stock blue or red colour but then I thought I'd also like to challenge myself. There aren't many models in the team and this looked like a good opportunity to have some fun.
The theme I have come up with is based off the Solland colours; black and yellow. Quite hard colours but stand out really well next to each other and I have never really painted these colours much. I was thinking of calling them the "Solland Sunderers" as a hint to the destruction of their homeland. According to the Empire Heraldry book which I got a look at the other day a big icon of Solland is a sun, the middle of which might be a cross or a plain sun. I think this would look really cool on the shoulders of the team. So I'm going to do a little playing about to practice and get the freehand on them looking good.
Alongside this they'll get a set of markers, probably from plasticard. This being 3x re-rolls, 1x score and 1x turn markers. I have some ideas, but I was thinking the turn marker might look cool if it was the teams badge, I'm currently unsure of what to do for the others.
As well as these, I have some painted mins I can part with. It might be a case that I do a post on some forums for a week or two, if they don't sell then they will go up on ebay.
I'm excited to have an idea! Just the move to sort out now.

[Review] Battle Scribe
Everyone who is in to gaming has a need for certain items, a very important item for us all is the army list. Without it, our models are just a vague mass of points with vague options. The traditional manner has always been on a bit of paper, either printed up nice and neatly or quickly scribbled on the back of a napkin. It took no time at all for people to start making programs to be used on computers for army lists. My traditional manner has been to use excel all nice and neatly laid out with cells doing the calculations for totals, points remaining and on the fantasy side, percentages.

The LO Meet 2012
For the last eight years my home forum on the interwebs, Librarium-Online.com, has held an annual gathering at Warhammer World (WHW). Each year we get members to turn up and just have fun playing games.
This year was no exception, we are missing the odd member her but this the gamers from the weekend.
Here is my account....

[WHFB] Warrior unit finished
It has taken some time but the unit of warriors is finally done. I have just the quarrellers to paint up and the army is basically done'. The last ten models are OK but I rushed them and on close detail I am not fully happy. The unit on the whole I am very happy with. Now, here some pictures...

Unit Filler Completed

Reading, now with more grudges!
And here are the grudges....
The picture isn't amazingly clear and makes some of the runes look very smudged. I admit they are not really sharp and clear, I will try to get a better picture when it is complete. The runes I am kind of happy with overall, my freehand has gotten a little better but I think this was done to the brush not keeping it's point all the time. I added the bookmark to break up the page's colour - it says 'grudge' down it.
The runes themselves say: (Left page) 'Borak made fun of our beard' (Right page) 'Jim looked at my Rinn and winked'
(Rinn is a dwarf Queen or royalty) So, enjoy. ;)
The names are from members on Librarium-online.com
Beards, fillers and guns.
Progress on the unit filler has been made, the two occupants are mostly painted.
And I also give some brief thoughts on the 6th edition rumours.

Dwarf warrior Unit filler WIP
So, I got started on these fellas today. The skin and beards are done.
The first guy I went for a white look but came unstuck and in this picture it looks like a crappy white with no shading. It is a bit better in person but the layers were perhaps a little too strong for the highlights to look right. I am hoping it'll bed down when the rest of the colours are added.
This guy his beard turned out well. He's looking good. Still got a way to go though.

Dwarf unit filler conversion
Saturday, 9 June 2012
Warrior unit half way done.
The unit is half completed, and no I don't know why I gave that one dude a single glove. Th thing that is hard to see is the addition of a little bit of static grass on the bases. I had previous comments about the bases looking too plain and I agree. This added a nice little detail to them.
Next up will be the unit filler, I had an idea of a couple of racks of weapons being inspected. As pile of weapons didn't seem dwarven enough.

Dwarf Warrior flagstone bases
OK, so I have now gotten a smart phone I have started uploading more pictures quickly. You can see them on twitter (@kuffeh) but here is the latest, and hopefully tomorrow I'll have a group shot of the painted unit so far. Below is the 30 bases for the dwarf unit, tomorrow I'll have sixteen dwarfs on bases ready to go!

Fantasy Mathhammer
A quick post here to try and point out a new product gamers might want with them. Those people who have smartphones can use the following program. But what is it, Kuffeh? Well. to quote the designer..
You can see here for the updates as they are made and armies added:
http://blogofgrudges.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/FantasyMathHammer
It simulates combat between units of your choice, and lets you know the result of 10 repeated combats. So, in other words it does mathhammer. For those of us with no head for numbers, having something like this to hand to make some quick calculations before thinking of whether my dwarfs could take those ogres or not is a great idea. When I get a smartphone, I'll definitely be getting this to allow me to place the smackdown on those ogres!

Runelord Staff
What do you think? I'm kind of happy about it, it's not very glowly but I am still learning freehand and think it's a decent start. Any thoughts to improve it or for next time? And I'm not sure about his cloak, runes or border or nothing...
