Introducing the newest member of the C Family: Our new kitty, Skippyjon Jones! I truly thought that I would hold out much longer before getting a pet, like when the kids were all in elementary school. But alas, the cuteness factor won me over. Not only that, but I knew the children were wanting a pet very badly. And a puppy would be way too much responsibility for me at this point.
And truly, I was not even looking for a kitty. It just so happened that I was over at my friend Cheryl's house, and I commented on the cute little gray kitten she had. She told me her mom had two litters of kittens in her garage! Evidently, one mama stray must have told another mama stray that it was a great place to start a family, and voiala! Kittens galore in this nice grandmother's garage. I guess you can see from the photos that we found our way there and brought this little guy home.
One of Cheryl's kids named this one Skippyjon Jones, and since we love the Skippyjon Jones books the name kind of stuck! Here is Daddy C below, reading about the famous kitty. I swear this picture was not a set-up, I came in the front door, and there they were so I grabbed my camera.
Skipito, as we sometimes call him, has proven himself to be a very mellow and good natured kitty for a family with 3 kids. Baby C adores him. Even Daddy C loves Skipito.
It will be very interesting to see how we integrate a pet into our daily lives. So far, everything has gone very well....um...except for that... uh...tail-pulling incident with Baby C....

For me and the Three "lil C's", our weekly trip to the Mentone Branch Library has become one of our new favorite activities. The newly constructed Library/Senior center is on the small side but surprisingly inviting and cozy, especially in the kid's corner where you will find little tables and chairs, a kid's computer, stuffed animals, puppets, puzzles, toys and HUNDREDS of children's books. The books in the adult section are all new and they carry many contemporary titles-no dusty crusty books from the 1800's in this library. And I must add one more comment: The library staff has been very kind, helpful and child friendly. I got no dirty looks when baby C cried or when C1 and C2 got a little carried away while playing with the toys in the kid's corner.
I was pleasantly surprised during our last trip, when I noticed that In-n-Out Burger is sponsoring a literacy promotion called Food For Thought. Children through age 12 can earn a certificate for a free burger for every 5 books they read. The promotion is going on from March 8 to April 19, and kids can earn up to 3 burgers. Now, I don't know about you, but I've got lots of favorite things, two of them being READING, and IN-N-OUT Burgers! Contact your local public library for more details.
