Happy Happy Birthday, Ella Dear

Many happy returns to Ella today. When she was born, I was a junior in high school. Wild. I didn't even have my driver's license yet.

It's also Sister Cornwall's birthday. I have no idea why I remember that. Probably because of Ella's!

I miss you, Ella! I hope you're having a happy day!

Book Blog

Mom, Let's start talking books. I am ready for some book blogging and I think we should use this as a forum until you figure out what you want to do.
I checked out some Wilkie Collins because it seemed like everyone was reading it. So far, it's slow.

Soccer Mom?

The Day has arrived!
2 things, Henry now makes silly poses for pictures and he started soccer! I think it is the beginning of the end. Next I will be driving a van and my children will be completely overbooked so that I can somehow enrich their lives and I can avoid doing the laundry. Henry loves it and I love sitting on the grass, reading a magazine and playing with Calvin.

sometimes life is too exciting

that is a misleading title. right now my life isn't exciting necessarily - it's more along the lines of chaotic. we were sad to have bill die, but it was great for our family to have to go away. at first i was frustrated by the timing. i guess there is never a good time to die. but we had 23 soccer games and stake primary activity for esme' and i was in charge of snack for ara's game. that was just saturday morning. so i was glad we were able to have a good excuse to run away from it all. we had a great time listening to books on tape (thanks mom for the indian in the cupboard series - they are great!) and the kids did a bang-up job travelling. well, i need to get to my scripture scavenger hunt for activity days - the girls will be here soon - it's more fun to blog - but such is life.

Because Sometimes Life Just Isn't Very Exciting

Hey, everybody.

I just wanted to blog and give you my "Avoiding Pain" Tip of the Day. A few weeks ago I started having a a really obnoxious pain in my right arm, starting most intensely in my shoulder and going down to my hand. My back hurt a lot too. I tried ibuprofen, heat, ice, etc. and nothing really worked. I couldn't sleep at night, and I never stopped thinking about the pain. Is this starting to sound like an Aleve commercial yet? I even went to the doctor (technically a P.A., as Matt is quick to point out, but I like the guy and so far he's good). He said that it was a strained tendon and that he could give me stronger painkillers but that more importantly I needed to follow his advice: sit up straight, eat better, be careful when I lift weights, and don't hang out in front of the computer so much. haha. He also reminded me that I'm at high risk for osteoporosis.

So, the pain lasted a little over a week and now, 2 weeks later, is mostly gone, but one exciting thing is that I switched to using the mouse with my left hand. It took a couple of days but now I love it. I feel a little bit ambidextrous, although I still can't write, throw, etc. very well with my left hand, so I guess I'm not really. Anyway, the point is, I don't think any of you use a computer quite as often as I do (something to be thankful for--trust me), but I just thought I'd pass that tip along. It seems obvious but it seems to have done the trick.

Getting an under-the-desk pullout keyboard holder has also helped. So has running. My fancy mouse switcheroo is very helpful. More than any of those, though, are the little Post-It notes I have stuck all over my desk that say, "Sit Up Straight." My posture has always stunk because I just forget and slouch, but now that I have reminders, I really notice a difference. I don't sit on my tailbone anymore. At least not at work. My arm doesn't hurt as much, and I don't get as many afternoon headaches.

Thought I'd share.

Geez, I sound like an old lady, don't I? Don't answer that.

How's everybody else doing?

new blogs

I've discovered that some family members have been making new blogs, i.e. Sister Fillmore and Big Daddy... hooray for you. I like to read them.

But Dad, how come you have only made one post, and that was in January? Inquiring minds want to know.

Mother/Daughter Enrichment - May 2005

I chose this photo because it's one of the few photos I have from an Enrichment evening. And there is some BIG news on the Enrichemnt front!

I told Dad, "Hey, some big news from the Church!" and he said, "What is that?" and I said, "Enrichment is changing from once a month to quarterly." And he said, "That is big news."

So, I'm not surprised. And I think it can work very well. Especially since they said that wards should continue to have weekly or monthly Enrichment ACTIVITIES - which our ward had started having anyway. If wards really look at the needs in their wards, they can use the Activity options for the kinds of events that women are going to anyway - and thus providing the sisterhood and fellowship that women in (and out of) the church want and need. They could have scrapbooking sessions, aerobics classes, book groups, quilting bees; the possibilities are endless - I'm excited to be part of a new era!!

Pinata Time at the park!

Pinata Time at the park!
Originally uploaded by grannybabs.
Fall got into full swing (pardon the pun, but this is a Terrill post after all!) with the start of school and Eve's b-day.

The crisp fall days are a welcome relief from past Septembers that were HOT! But it's still a lot of work - why can't we have crisp fall days in July so I could enjoy them!!

I'm busy getting all the stuff done to finish my credential - which must be done by 10/1/05!! Nothing like leaving it to the end - is that another Terrill trait?

I'm taking CPR, so just give me a buzz if you need any rescue breathing, abdominal thrusts - and I can do conscious or unconscious choking! (Two nights of 6 to 10 in Pasadena is pretty tiring though!)

Things are ramping up at school - principal wants a syllabus from me - oh joy - I guess you have to teach RSP to know how absurd a syllabus is - but it's another feature of our fearless leader's NCLB fiasco that most thinking teachers eschew!

But I do have a nice group of kids - they are not perfect, but they are pleasant - makes a big difference when your classes are a little larger than they usually are.

RS marches apace also - it feels like two steps forward, two steps back sometimes though.

My bookgroup is reading Moonstone by Wilkie Collins - sounds like a politician doesn't he? Anyway, it's not very compelling yet, but others have said they loved it, so I am persevering at SSR (Sustained Silent Reading for the uninitiated.)

Eve starts this week at SMCNS - good to see the tradition go on - plan on the carnival in May - maybe a mini-reunion or something!!

H. got back into running - he's been a slug - aren't we all? Noah has made it to he 7:15 a.m. class every day so far - I'm impressed.

I have to go to Seminary tomorrow morning and represent the Telestial Kingdom in some "walk through the rooms of the Plan of Salvation activity" - at that hour I'm sure I can look pretty telestial!

So Karen, here's the news from the Primrose Corner of Monrovia anyway.

Well.....

It has been quiet here and on blogander and i admit i have not have time to liven up either one. Soccer has hit us full force and we are still reeling. Ara's now in U-10 so that means her practices and games are clear out at the high school - a gazillion mile drive. To add to things, 2 cyclists were killed on PCH Saturday morning so north bound was closed which added to the road time. Now if I could learn to mobile blog I could've made good use of my sitting in traffic time.

So that's what theBolanders have been up to - Bruce's Grandpa Bill had a stroke so we're waiting to see about hi, They keep saying he's going to die any minute, but it's been 4 days. It's funny - everyone keeps trying to plan when to do the funeral, but you feel bad scheduling his death. I guess we schedule births, deaths are the nextstep.

Bruce has also become very knowlegable about bikes, esp Schwinns in the past couple of weeks. I guess Bill has officially passed the torch on to Bruce. Hmmm.

Update

Yeah, not much is going on with us either.

bruce on the run.... (hope you don't mind jeff)

ode to william 'c'

just in case any of you were wondering if i was a true grandson of grandpa bill, look what i just bought.

it lives in arkansas but should be making its way to the western coast next week. bonny and i are very excited about it. the kids don't know about it yet. i didn't want to get them excited if it didn't work, the sale that is, the bike obviously works just fine.

the problem was that the tandems were just not quite long enough, and were too easy to steer.

anyone know where to get cheap used bike parts, three matching seats for example?
