Felt Tea Bags

It has been awhile since I have shared any of my felt food creations on here. I still love making pieces for Charlotte to play with, especially for her play kitchen! Ross and I are huge tea drinkers. Iced or hot, we love it all and drink it often. I have been wanting to make some little felt tea bags for Charlotte for a long time and finally sat down and created a few this past week.

I saw several different styles on Pinterest, but finally settled on this tutorial --- (here's my pin if you want to save it). I loved the shape and design. It just looked like a real teabag. Her directions were easy to follow too. Once I created the basic shape, I simply sewed on the "flavor" designs. Charlotte actually told me the ones she wanted. I filled each bag with tiny beads that I found in my crafting stash. This gave the bags a bit of weight to stand up on their own and made the bags look like they actually had something in them. I've seen several people use scraps of felt to achieve this look as well. I used a thick cord for durability and sewed a little decorative heart tag on the end to add to the cuteness factor.

Do you have a favorite tea flavor? This is Chai, Strawberry and Lemon.

I also made Hibiscus (my favorite cold brew tea), Orange and Mint.

See how they stand up by themselves and fold in like an actual tea bag! I love how they turned out!!! Charlotte couldn't wait to get her hands on them. She immediately grabbed her dishes and created a huge tea party for us. We spent a good portion of our morning trying new teas, discussing the aromas and taste, and giggling as we cheered to a fresh cup and enjoyed some tasty treats. It was pretend play at its finest!!!

Felt Potatoes

"Po-ta-toes" said in my best Samwise Gamgee voice :-)  Felt potatoes that is! We went down to visit my parents for a few days and my mom and I couldn't resist sewing up a new felt food for Charlotte's kitchen. We have another sweet treat in the works, but that will have to wait for a bit! We thought potatoes would be a quick and easy project to work on while Charlotte napped one afternoon. We followed this tutorial for felt potatoes (it comes with a pattern). My mom used her trusty old sewing machine to mend the pieces together and I stuffed, closed and added the eyes. Another great addition to our felt food supply! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a happy Cinco de Mayo!

Felt Cheesecake

I know I have been making a lot of fruits and vegetables for Charlotte's kitchen, but I have a long long long list of sweet treats to make as well. I decided to start off with a slice of New York style cheesecake. It's cute, it's the perfect size for tiny hands to handle and best of all - it's calorie free!!!! Here is a link to the tutorial that I followed. This pattern had a lot of little parts to it, but it was actually quite easy to sew together. I followed the instructions until the very end. The only thing I changed was the cherries. I personally didn't like how the pom poms looked. Plus I imagined my little tot ripping them off one day. Instead, I made tiny cherries out of felt. I traced the top of my spool of thread for the perfect cherry circle. I then ran a running stitch around the edge and pulled it together to form a shower cap shape. Fill that with your stuffing, sew the hole closed and you have the perfect cherry. When complete, just sew them to the top of your cheesecake. Don't you love the little drip of cherry sauce running down the side? Charlotte has been feeding us bites of cake all afternoon.

Felt Strawberries

My post went missing so this is a repost. Sorry! The new blogspot format is odd.

The felt project that I have been working on for the past few days is felt strawberries. Strawberries are a huge hit in our house at the moment. Charlotte loves eating them, watering our plants outsides, searching for ripe berries and now playing with her felt versions. First up, I followed Amy's tutorial for making a felt strawberry. As always, her patterns and tutorials are super easy to follow and the end result is always great. I started by only cutting out and making 6 berries, but when I saw how quick and easy they were to sew up, I went ahead and made 6 more. I used this tutorial on how to tie a french knot for the seeds. Charlotte saw them and immediately screamed out, "strawberry". She then pretended to bite one and said, "mmmmmm, mommy bite berry". That's always a great reaction to get!
I went ahead and followed this tutorial to make a few strawberry halves. I thought it would be great to have so she could add them to several of our other felt food options. Who doesn't love sliced berries on their pancakes, ice cream or chocolate cake :-) It took no time at all to sew some halves together. I love the little hearts in the middle. I saved and cleaned out a carton to store all of our strawberries in. Perfect addition to our felt food collection.

Felt Asparagus and Broccoli

I added some green veggies to our felt food collection this weekend. We all love asparagus and broccoli and we cook with them often. When I stumbled across felt tutorials for both, I immediately saved them. It was the perfect project to work on during a lazy, rainy weekend. First up, I made felt asparagus. Amy over on While Wearing Heels came up with this pattern and tutorial. Her directions are always super easy to follow and the results come out perfectly each and every time. The tops on the asparagus along with the triangle pieces sewn along the body really make it look realistic. Plus I taught Charlotte a new word - asparagus. It sounds super cute when she says it.

Next up, was the broccoli. Hands down the easiest, quickest felt food project I have made to date. It took me 25 minutes to cut out and sew up these four little stalks. Can't beat that! You can find the tutorial here if you want to add it to your felt collection. Off to pick out another project and continue my felt crafting obsession. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your week!

Felt Grapes

I completed another felt food to add to the play kitchen. For this week's project, I made a bushel of felt grapes or apes as Charlotte likes to call them! I used this tutorial for the pattern and directions for the stem and leaves. I did follow the directions on how to sew up the individual grapes. However, I ended up making 30 grapes instead of 18. Sounds like a lot, but they were super quick to sew up late at night while we watched T.V. I made more because I wanted the bushel to be long and thin and I tend to sew things tightly together so it looked more natural in the end. Charlotte's birthday is a little over three months away. Gasp!!!! I can't wait to fix up her new little kitchen and fill it with food. I've got quite a good collection so far and a ton of ideas that I want to complete for her. Off to pick out a new project. Hope you have a wonderful day!!!!

Felt Peep

Yes. I know! I have a healthy addiction to felt :-) There are just too many cute ideas out there and it's such a cheap and easy material to work with. Now I'm not a fan of the actual candy Peeps. I'm more of a peanut butter egg or chocolate covered marshmallow kinda gal, lol. However, when I saw this tutorial on how to make a felt Peep, I just couldn't resist sewing one up for Charlotte. One last little treat for her Easter basket. The tutorial was super easy to follow, especially with the wonderful step by step pictures. I'm a visual person! I think it turned out quite cute and looks very realistic. Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter weekend!!!!!

Felt Corn

I. Love. This. Felt. Corn!!!! It is just so darn cute. Took me for-ev-er to complete because lets face it - my sewing skills aren't all that :) I can't even begin to count the number of times I pricked my finger sewing those kernels. It was so worth it though because those kernels look super realistic!

When my mom was here, I got her to sew the husk. Since it's double sewn on the machine, it allows the husk to be a little bendable so you can shape the husk different ways. Charlotte was excited when I finished it up and showed it to her today. She immediately said "I bite" and proceeded to do just that. She then ran over and fed some to the rocking horse that the neighbor girls just handed down to her.

If you are addicted to felt food like I am, you can find this fabulous tutorial (as well as many others) over on While Wearing Heels. I have said it before and I will say it again, her tutorials are so easy to follow. I can't wait to try out some more.

Felt Food

Told y'all I'm hooked on making felt food! My mom recently came to visit for a few days while Ross was on a business trip. In our spare time, we sewed up, stuffed and put together an assortment of food for Charlotte's kitchen. We had sooooo much fun completing each project. It was neat seeing each one come to life. I have to admit - not only do they look super cute, but they actually look like the real deal too. Charlotte was able to immediately identify the ones she knows. I used a lot of tutorials from Amy over on While Wearing Heels. Not only is she a sweetheart, but her tutorials are so super easy to print out and follow. Be sure to go check out the rest of her blog. It's a great place to get inspiration!!!

Chicken leg tutorial. I went ahead and made turkey legs too!

Pear tutorial. I added leaves to hide my botched sewing job :-)

Eggplant tutorial

Banana tutorial.

Radish tutorial

Lemon tutorial. I decided to use it to make limes too!

Coffee and pastry tutorial.

Felt Carrots

My obsession with felt food has begun. It happened late one night while I was perusing Pinterest and just so happened to stumbled across a board full of felt food inspiration. My eyes lit up and I immediately begin pinning my favorites. You can find some amazing creations of Etsy that look very real, but I thought it would be more special if I made them myself. There are a ton of free tutorials out there and I have spent weeks hunting them all down. I got together with my mom a few weeks ago and we tackled our first felt project - carrots. I love how they turned out!!! I made a bunch so I can put them in Charlotte's Easter basket this year. We recently purchased a play kitchen made out of wood that we will be repainting to give her for her birthday. I hope to have a variety of food to stock it with when we are all through. I'll be sure to share my creations as they get made. If you happen to run across any patterns that I don't have, please be sure to send them my way!!!
