YARD SALE + THRIFT STORE FINDS

Here are some recent finds while I was out poking around!

A nice sturdy vintage apron with an embroidered cook who looks like she's deranged or on happy pills or something, lol!

I love this gothic-arched display case from a yard sale.

Another red bunny cookie cutter to add to my Easter collection! The purple Wood and Sons, England plate now resides in my purple half-bath.

I don't know who made this blue vase, but I also have a yellow one just like it. The tin will get a makeover at some point.

A big basket to put annual primroses in on my shady porch, a Dickens Christmas Stories book, a wood cover for a scrapbook or craft, and a Mary Engelbreit address book!

This is the cake I made for my Becky's 18th birthday on the 22nd of May. The sticks are to keep the layers from sliding off. Becky had her last day of school on the 22nd also. She's now officially out of school; she will get a certificate of completion instead of a diploma. No idea what the future holds for her, but that's okay - I like having her at home!

Becky made the vase a few years ago in school, and the irises are 'Honorabile', an 1840 heirloom variety.

IT'S A DOILY DAY!

I love crocheted doilies! Who doesn't? They're so colorful! Here's a sample of some I've picked up over the years.

Does anyone know what this piece is intended for? I got this at a thrift shop. It measures 56" x 4". Obviously too skinny for a table runner, and not shaped right for a bell pull.

CHRISTMAS QUILTS

This page was a frontispiece of an older Reader's Digest Condensed Book I had, but can't remember which one. Feel free to use this cute picture!

THRIFT STORE GOODIES!

I went to two thrift stores this week! Here are my goodies:

I'll start with my "prize of the week" - an awesome Christmas stocking for $1.00!

I found a nice roll of vintage wrapping paper, and a silky soft red/black scarf (which I'll use for a tablecloth). I've been looking for a scrapbook or photo album to put all my mother's 1951 shower/wedding cards in. I chose this floral fabric-covered one.

This cute little girl with a polka dot scarf is a Fenton (red sticker included) mug and the mini creamer/syrup is a no-name. The selection of blingy earrings, at 50 cents each, will be added to my craft stash.

Three 8-1/2 x 11 pieces of (what I believe are) real felt, from the old $.17 price tags.

Two boxes of vintage red bulbs and two old tart tins that had been painted as decorations.

Three small glass jars, and a set of 2-1/2" tall spice (?) cans - Meister, made in Brazil.

I was pleased to find an HRM turkey cutter, along with a holly one. A fun bag of pink, silver, and cream bead strands will be put to good use, I'm sure!

I was also happy to find this interesting vintage planter, made in Japan, to add to my collection!

Last is a group of vintage Christmas money holders and one card. In the post below this one I've shown them individually so you can use them if you wish.

A LITTLE THRIFT SHOPPING

My goodness, where has the time gone? I haven't posted in three weeks! I do have a good excuse, though . . . I think.

About mid-October all-of-a-sudden I had an urge to start making Christmas crafts! Boy, I don't know what got into me, but I couldn't stop. I haven't even been outside to clean up the yard before winter sets in! Then, all-of-a-sudden again, I decided to clean up and re-organize all my craft supples. So I've been doing that off-and-on for the past three days.

But Mister had yesterday off from work so we slipped out to the thrift shop. I'm so glad we did - got some great stuff: a nice Christmas table runner that looks vintage but is not, a Valentine and a Christmas hankie, a nice green planter that says "Brush, USA" on the bottom, a glass bell jar, a cool vintage sugar dispenser (which I'll use for a pencil holder as the red lid is cracked), styrofoam tree, 'brass' bells, an angel figurine, and an old bottle with a 'Mavis' logo.

Here is a close-up of the sugar. It has a great pattern on it.

Also, a close-up of the angel. The colors are so pretty!

Last, a close-up of the Mavis label. I have a very dear friend from Canada named Mavis, so I'll send this to her. (I hope she doesn't read my blog!)

THERMOSES + DECORATIONS

I was asked to show the small Avon thermos decanter with my thermos collection, so here it is!

Here is an Autumn-colored vintage hankie that just fits on my "lazy Susan"!

And, speaking of vintage hankies, these are some that I picked up over the summer.

THRIFT SHOP STOP!

I haven't been to a thrift shop in a dog's age! Finally, I hit one yesterday before I went grocery shopping.

Any of you heard of the British author, Dick Francis? I've read a few of his books in some old Reader's Digest Condensed Books. They always have something to do with horse racing and they were very good stories. I found two hardbacks that I'm delighted with! Also, two strands of clear-ish beads.

In addition, I found a pretty Christmas plate made by Pickard China, U.S., a fun Christmas wind chimes that's double-sided and needs detangling, and two Ocean Water scented votives by Yankee Candle.

Also, a pretty Mason (England) Vista china tea cup, sans saucer. Three vintage hankies and a tablecloth (?) that's 24 inches square. I question it because it feels and looks like a men's handkerchief, but it's so large that it fits a small table. Who cares!

I haven't joined up with Rednesday in a while and this display is a perfect excuse to do so! Hi Melody!

THRIFT SHOPPING

Mister had yesterday off from work, so we went over to one of our local thrift shops! I got some great vintage items - all with red, of course!

I couldn't believe these Red Riding Hood S&P's were there! Of course I had no intention of getting my hopes up that they're genuine. When I got home I looked up on line and discovered that because of their height and the size of the filling holes they are the reproductions. Who cares! They're adorable - real or repro! Might sell them, haven't decided yet; but, if anyone's interested, email me.

This figurine is so animated! I just want to hug it! It's in excellent condition. Look at the original price! Wish I could buy figurines for that price today, but I was lucky and got this for $6.00.

Couldn't resist this chic overnight bag. Has a few "dents" but, hey, I'm a dent-kinda-gal!

Last is this awesome Wilendur square tablecloth with four napkins. Needs a good cleaning and, again, not sure if I will keep or sell.

I think I hit the jackpot yesterday! Good stuff cheap!

A BLUE REDNESDAY!

I'm getting ready for Valentine's Day in a blue fashion this year - on one shelf, anyways! And there's just enough bits of red to qualify for Rednesday, too! This is the shelf above my craft table.

Some vintage Avon Here's My Heart containers, two Lefton girls, and a few other pretties!

REDNESDAY CHRISTMAS DEC'S

Thought I'd show you a few Christmas decorations this week. Decorating went slow this year because a few days before Thanksgiving Katherine had a stomach bug for three days. Then a few days after T'day I had it for four days (lost 5 lbs. in that four days!), then Katherine got it again for another three days! Strange. But we're all better now. This is my vintage Christmas apron that I just adore! The second photo is a close-up of the scene.

I was so excited to find these small Gurley candles at the thrift shop this summer. I think I paid a quarter or 50 cents for the small box of them!

These are just a few ornaments put together for a quick "something" on a blank wall beside the stairs.

REDNESDAY

Hi all! Well, on Friday we got the 19" of snow. Since then, we've had 50F/10C temps! Tonight (Tuesday evening) it's pouring like crazy! That's New England!

I wanted to show you the pretty Easter/Spring tablecloth I got at a thrift store a while back, but it won't photograph well because I keep a plastic covering on it. This is a shot I took right after I bought it. It was sold by Avon in 1994. I just love those bunnies!

Katherine will probably kill me for this if she finds out, but this is her holding my cat, Smokey!

That's all for this week! Enjoy the wearin' of the green Sunday!
