THRIFT STORE GOODIES!

I went to two thrift stores this week! Here are my goodies:

I'll start with my "prize of the week" - an awesome Christmas stocking for $1.00!

I found a nice roll of vintage wrapping paper, and a silky soft red/black scarf (which I'll use for a tablecloth). I've been looking for a scrapbook or photo album to put all my mother's 1951 shower/wedding cards in. I chose this floral fabric-covered one.

This cute little girl with a polka dot scarf is a Fenton (red sticker included) mug and the mini creamer/syrup is a no-name. The selection of blingy earrings, at 50 cents each, will be added to my craft stash.

Three 8-1/2 x 11 pieces of (what I believe are) real felt, from the old $.17 price tags.

Two boxes of vintage red bulbs and two old tart tins that had been painted as decorations.

Three small glass jars, and a set of 2-1/2" tall spice (?) cans - Meister, made in Brazil.

I was pleased to find an HRM turkey cutter, along with a holly one. A fun bag of pink, silver, and cream bead strands will be put to good use, I'm sure!

I was also happy to find this interesting vintage planter, made in Japan, to add to my collection!

Last is a group of vintage Christmas money holders and one card. In the post below this one I've shown them individually so you can use them if you wish.

A LITTLE THRIFT SHOPPING

My goodness, where has the time gone? I haven't posted in three weeks! I do have a good excuse, though . . . I think.

About mid-October all-of-a-sudden I had an urge to start making Christmas crafts! Boy, I don't know what got into me, but I couldn't stop. I haven't even been outside to clean up the yard before winter sets in! Then, all-of-a-sudden again, I decided to clean up and re-organize all my craft supples. So I've been doing that off-and-on for the past three days.

But Mister had yesterday off from work so we slipped out to the thrift shop. I'm so glad we did - got some great stuff: a nice Christmas table runner that looks vintage but is not, a Valentine and a Christmas hankie, a nice green planter that says "Brush, USA" on the bottom, a glass bell jar, a cool vintage sugar dispenser (which I'll use for a pencil holder as the red lid is cracked), styrofoam tree, 'brass' bells, an angel figurine, and an old bottle with a 'Mavis' logo.

Here is a close-up of the sugar. It has a great pattern on it.

Also, a close-up of the angel. The colors are so pretty!

Last, a close-up of the Mavis label. I have a very dear friend from Canada named Mavis, so I'll send this to her. (I hope she doesn't read my blog!)

A RAINBOW JAR

I picked up these light covers (for a ceramic Christmas tree) thrifting recently and, not knowing what to do with them, dumped them into one of my kitchen jars. I think they look pretty good in there!

I HAVE THE BLUES

After the Christmas decorations came down, I was redecorating the empty spaces. I lined up my old blue canning jars on the kitchen hutch, and I think they look so pretty there! I used to have a humongous one, that was my dad's, but lost it in the house fire.

This one says TRADEMARK LIGHTNING. (Moonshine, maybe? LOL!)

Not blue, but an interesting design.

This is a storage jar, hoosier, maybe. It has such a nice criss-cross pattern.

This darling ceramic birdhouse decoration came home from the thrift store a few weeks ago. I can't wait to hang it outside when the weather allows.

I got this at a Family Dollar store in December. This has always been my favorite hymn.

So now you can understand why I have the (happy) blues!

REDNESDAY

Welcome everyone to the first Rednesday in October! The air here in New England is cool and crisp! Just right for a visit to the apple farm, which I might do on Friday as there's no school.

Y'know, I like my blog friends so much that I'm willing to take the shirt off my back for you! Which is exactly what I did in order to photo it! A cute little screen printed, long-sleeved, t-shirt that I recently picked up at K-Mart.

These little scarecrow buddies seem to be having a good time. I think the two on the left are sharing a private joke!

I have slowly been filling up my wooden spool jar with finds from yard sales and thrift stores. I'm just about at the top!

Last week I showed you a red transferware mug. Here it is (on the right) with its two buddies.

I showed you my Impatiens a while back. Here they are all filled out in the planter, which is an ice bucket stand!

REDNESDAY

First of all, happy first day of Fall tomorrow!

Life just gets busier and busier! But I'm lovin' it! Friday and Monday Teen and little Jade (that I babysit) were both home sick.

Mister is laid off again, so he's around all the time now - working on the barn, of course! Bye, bye shabby red shingles!

I bought Teen this "Brit bag" at a thrift shop recently. It has one broken handle, but Mister will fix it (eventually!).

Stopped at my beside-the-post-office-thrift-store Monday and picked up a few small items. This small glass jar (I can hardly pass them by without scooping them up, I don't know why!), and an adorable dutch theme planter.

I also saw, and bought, this cute vintage box of Christmas cards (all there!).

REDNESDAY - VALENTINES + RED RADIO!

I'm going to show the rest of my Valentines along with a cool radio that Mister got free (along with some glass bottles) on the side of the road this week. (He has the best luck with freebies!)

This is a German Steinbach ornament that I picked up at a Christmas fair in Belgium in 1985.
Here's my radio - a nice retro red! Despite the corroded batteries in it, it still worked. Of course, they came out. It stands 9" (23cm) tall. I can just picture this at the beach in one of those bikini movies!
Teen wanted to go to the thrift shop after school, and I picked up this little hand bell (minus the clapper) - it appears to be a Bakelite handle. This cutie is 4" (10cm) tall.

Have a great week, and show me all your ravishing reds!

THRIFT STORES ON N.Y. EVE

I was cleaning Pre-Teen's room a few days back and while doing so decided to count her paper money that was crumpled up in a box. The kid had $250 in there! She's one of those rare kids that never spends money and never wants anything; she's very satisfied with what she has.

Now that I knew all that cash was in her room, I decided to put it in the bank (which is conveniently located on one side of the post office. Remember what's on the other side of the p.o.? My fave thrift store! So, of course I had to stop in! Also, around the corner is a small consignment store that I noticed a few weeks back (been there almost a year, I found out). So . . . here's what I brought home:

From the consignment shop I got six matching strands of tree beads for $2.50. I've never had matching beads - don't know why but just a bunch of various ones.

Also this cute little dish for $.75. It's very thin, might be porcelain. Not sure what it's for, it's 6" x 2.75" (15cm x 7cm).

These are from the thrift shop:
Another pretty cup for the purple bath. Look at the cute flower inside of it!

A few books for me and Pre-Teen (plus some Garfield books) -
Some votive holders and this cute jar -
Hey, look! My Calibrachoa is blooming! A nice sight on a snowy day. I had them in a hanging basket and at end of season just dumped the shell into a bowl.
