Watercoloring Techniques

Happy Watercolor, Delighful Dozen, Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler
For my last workshop, I wanted to show the guests how many ways they could color in a lined image without going to a lot of work.  This technique, Watercoloring with Markers, is one of my absolute faves.  Simply stamp with StazOn Black or any other solvent ink onto a piece of watercolor paper (Stampin' Up!'s paper is the best - only because I've tried others and their absorbency rate is fantastic!), use a marker to go over the accent lines on the stamp, then use an Aqua Painter to spread the color out.  If some of your image ends up too light, go over some of the accent lines again with the marker when your color is dry.  On this card we used Cherry Cobbler.  That is my absolute favorite shade of red!!!  We made a removable bookmark with the watercolor paper and flower image, tucked it behind a piece of Gold Vellum and the Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding.  Those were attached with Mini Glue Dots.  We used the Tag Topper Punch to shape the top of the bookmark and some Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine finishes the bookmark off.
Happy Watercolor, Cherry, Very Vanilla, Brushed Gold
I made this card because I wanted a stepped up version to show.  I love the layers of Cherry Cobbler cardstock and the Brushed Gold cardstock against each other.  Such an elegant look.  Here I used the Gold Washi Tape for a background and across the stem of the flower.  On this card I experimented with some watercolor paper from a local crafting store.  See how the image is washed out and there isn't much color variation?  It took a 1/2 hr for the little bit of water to soak into the paper.  I had to go over it again with the marker to get some color variation.  I was very disappointed.  Lesson learned.  Unless I'm using blender pens, DON'T use the cheap watercolor paper!  Because of the colors going on here, I chose not to use the Baker's Twine.  Instead, the Linen Thread looks quite fine.
Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station once again.  Let me know how you've been enjoying coloring in your stamps recently.

Scalloped Sympathy

There have been so many deaths over the past month.  So sad that I need to make a ton of Sympathy Cards, but I guess that's where we are in life.  This card is a CASE of another one somewhere here on the internet.  I forgot to write down where I found it.  :(  Sorry about that!  If it's yours, please link to your post in the comments and I'll add it up here.  This card uses the SAB DP from this last campaign, paired with Perfect Plum and Always Artichoke.  The stamp sets are Loving Thoughts and Growing Green (ret.).  I love the lattice die and now it adds such a wonderful background to almost any card.

Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station.

Pretty Petites and Woodgrain

Baja, Espresso Celery, Pretty Petites, Woodgrain Emb. Folder
This card was a project from a workshop last month.  We used the Early Espresso Coredinations cardstock from the Holiday Catalog and the Woodgrain embossing folder to make the cool wood background.  The canvas ribbon is from the Spring catalog.  I like how just the lower edges of the cardstocks are rounded.  Dazzling Details was used in the centers of the flowers from the bigz die.  The ribbon punch finished off the piece under the woodgrain.  I can't remember where I got this layout from, but it was inspired by something posted online.  Sure wish I could keep track of all that!

Happy Good Friday

It's Good Friday and we just got home from an amazing service.  I posted this today instead of Sunday since the ribbon is red.  On Sunday it will be white as snow.
The cross was made with Stampin' Up!'s Lattice Bigz Die.  The greeting is stamped from the Delighful Dozen stamp set.  I hope this card reminds us all of what started yesterday (Thursday) and was finished on Sunday (Easter Morning).  Without the crucifixion, there is no resurrection.  I am humbled.

Blessings,
Julie

It's Almost Sale-A-Bration!

Oh goodness, it's been a long time again!  I hope I can get back into this blogging thing.  This first pic is the first prize ribbons that I made from bamboo spoons (from a dollar store), the stamp sets Blue Ribbon and Hello Doily, and my Designer Rosette Bigs XL die.  Yes, the rosettes go a lot faster when your Big Shot does the cutting and scoring!  The color is Pacific Point.  The best part about these ribbons is that the hole at the top of the spoon allows the winners to display their ribbon on their wall by hanging it on a hook.  Cool, eh?
This card was a lot of fun.  I made it with a little inspiration from Splitcoaststampers.com.  The grass is a decorative sizzlit and the question mark is embossed in white with the retired stamp set Whimsical Alpha.  The large oval was used for the top of the mushroom and the face is a shorter punch of the retired luggage tag.  On the inside it says "Hope you have a great 1-Up day!  Happy Birthday!"  Yes, that was written on the center block on the inside.  Colors are Basic Black, garden Green, Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Blushing Bride.  The dots are the medium size of the eyes on the owl punch with 3 of them layered together to give it a brad look.
I just made this card this weekend for my nephew who is really into legos!  His present was legos, wrapped in lego wrapping paper and a lego card.  Can it get any better than that?  I love being able to coordinate the card to the present!  This card is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", the squares are 1" and the circles are made with my mini circle punch.  The letters were stamped with the retired stamp set "Rough Edges Alpha."  By the way, he loved the card.  :-)  Oh, and the colors are Real Red, Pacific Point, and Daffodil Delight.
Ok, I'll try to get back on here later this week.  I have some babies to stamp for and a baby shower banner to make.
Happy stamping and thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station!
Blessings,

Sweet, Sweet Little Duckie

This little duckie is so adorable!  I made this card for a friend of mine, whom I call Little Duckling.  the duck and water are watercolored.  Yes, I should have waited longer for the duck to dry before coloring the water, but this photo makes it look much more yellow than it really is.  Consider it a reflection of the duck, right?  The little border on the bottom was made with my little flower punch from the set of three itty bitty punches.  The frame was made with my sizzlit and the center was punched out with the wide oval punch.  I popped the frame up a bit so that the lollie wouldn't be the only 3-D item on the card.  Oh, yes!  The Lollie!
Isn't this lollie lovely?  It was very easy!  I made it with my Big Shot and my new Designer Rosette XL Die.  I really love the scallops on the edge of the lollie.  Makes it so pretty!

So, what have you made with your Designer Rosette?  I'd love to see it!  What?  You don't have it yet?  Well, go click on that "Shop Now" button and choose the mini catalog option.  You're sure to find some really fun stuff.

CAS Workshop Card

No, I can't take any credit for the wonderful idea of threading taffeta ribbon through the holes of the Pennant Die Doily.  But I do love the idea!  I've seen a few of these around.  The one that really caught my eye had the doily cut out of Garden Green cardstock and had a Real Red taffeta ribbon woven through it.  A Christmas sentiment was coming out through the center.  Wish I could remember where I saw it!  (Isn't that always the problem with the best ideas?)  Anyway, this is a super simple.  The colors are Rich Razzleberry, Sahara Sand, and Whisper White.

Ok, it's time to clean up the living room after the free work night at my house.  We had 10 people here last night working on various projects.  I love it!

Birthday Money Holder

My oldest son just had his birthday a few weeks ago.  He's a teenager, so of course, he wants cash!  My challenge now is how to make the money cards look unique.  This card measures 7 1/4" x 3 3/4".  They fit into some envelopes that were given to me by someone at a print shop.  They're PERFECT for holding cash!  Oh, and let's not forget that fun stamp set It's a Wrap Occassions from the IB&C.  This is the first time that I've used it for anything other than wrapping a nugget, but I think it's the perfect shaepe for this card size!  The leaves were cut out with the Big Shote and the Leaves Bigz Die, then brushed with a sponge and Early Espresso ink.  Colors here are Early Espresso, Chocolate Chip, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White, Paisley Petals DP, and Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain.
On the inside, you can see how the money holder is formed.  The whole piece of cardstock measures 7 1/4" x 10".  Score marks were made at 3 3/4" and 7 1/2".  Before gluing the flap down, a half oval was punched out of the center with my wide oval punch.  Make sure you use sticky strip or Tombow so that when the recipient rips the cash out of there, you don't end up with "what was formerly known as a card".

So, there you go.  Finally the measurements on the money holder card.  Thanks for your patience.

Some Like it Coral...

Day of Gratitude, Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade, Whisper White, Berry Blossoms DSP, retired ribbon, Word Window and Modern Label punches, Basic Pearls, Sticky Strip, Fun Flowers Bigz Die
Ok, so that WAS a corny title, but really, after a couple of years of blogging it's hard to come up with new ones!  Hey, so what do you think of this nifty little post it holder?  It's a gift to a hostess of mine.  I've written a note to her on the inside with the cute little golf pencil that's on a holder inside.  This is the first time that I've made a post it holder.  Not sure how really useful these are, but I think they're pretty.  Might just have to make some for some special teachers that I know.  I made this for the FS242 challenge.  I've used this post it holder as inspiration.  I think the next one I make is going to coordinate with the cool little Scooby Doo pens that I have.  :-)  I've used some retired Certainly Celery ribbon here and I think it's close enough to the Pear Pizzazz color.  The flowers were textured with the Lattice and Polka Dot embossing folders.  Make sure you add some Sticky Strip and the new Simply Scorin' tool to your next order.  You'll be sure to use them for a project like this.  It's so much easier to craft when you have the right tools!

Well, thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station once again.  I'd love to hear from you!

Swap, swaps, and more swaps!

Yes, I'm swap crazy.  No, actually I just need more samples of the new things, so I'm swapping.  This brown bag gift card holder is for one of the swaps, but I'm not telling which one!  After cutting the top off, I punched out half of a decorative label punch and glued the Pear Pizzazz to the inside back of the bag.  (It's not easy to get the bag in the punch, so glue a small strip of cardstock with temporary adhesive to center edge of the bag.  This will help you feed it into the punch.) The stamped leaves are from the new fall set Gently Falling, which is a 2-step set and GORGEOUS!!!!  Oh, and the glitter on the upper left leaf is the new and wonderful Dazzling Details glitter glue.  I think I've used half the bottle already!  The leaves were die cut with my Leaves Bigz die and then sponged with Early Espresso.  Spice Cake DSP finishes off the project.  So what do you think of my crazy paper bag project?  I made it for the  Ways to Use It Challenge 341.  The layout is from Sketch Challenge 349.  So what other ways can you think of to use a paper bag?
Yes, this is for a swap, too.  And I love this snowman!  He's from the Tags till Christmas stamp set.  The opposing stamp is from Punch Pals.  I used the Shaker Frames from the Holiday Mini Catalog for the piece in between the back and front, with a piece of overhead plastic in between.  The snow is the new Mica Flakes from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  I'm guessing that you're wondering how I made the opening window for the tag.  That's the new Peekaboo Frames Bigz Die.  Yes, that's also in the Holiday Mini!  For this tag, I punched out two frames and used adhesive across the one in back to glue it shut, while adhering the snowman image to it.

I try not to buy too many things from the mini catalogs.  I wasn't so successful at it this time.  I think I've bought more than half the product in it!  And I have so much more to show you.  But alas, 'tis soccer season and my high schooler is keeping us busy!  So if you want to see these things in person, let me know.  I'd be happy to show them to you!

Ok, enough blathering.  I'll let you get on with your day now.  Thanks so much for stopping by the Stamping Station!

Blessings,
Julie

Projects From the Last Workshop....

This past week's hostess requested that we do a birthday, Christmas, and thank you.  We made this adorable jingle bell stocking with the Stitched Stockings stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  The mini jingle bells are also something new in the Mini.  Aren't they adorable?!  The jingle bell is attached with a vintage safety pin from the Vintage Trinkets accessory.  The Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine (also from the Mini) is the perfect finishing touch on this card.  This design was based on Carrie's cute stocking card.  Thanks for the inspiration, Carrie!  Also used on this card:  Frostwood Lodge DP, Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, Scallop Edge Border Punch, Scallop Rectangle Clearlit, Stocking Builder Punch, Snow Burst Embossing Folder.
This adorable matchbox nugget box was another request of the hostess.  She hadn't used the matchbox die yet and wanted to see the It's a Wrap stamp set.  We stamped the address labels with the Give Thanks stamp, wrapped them around the Hershey Nuggets, then put them in their Pool Party matchbox.  The sleeve of the matchbox was made with Spice Cake DP from the Mini.  The leaf stamp is part of the Gently Falling stamp set, also found in the Mini.  Yes, we did have fun with the AWESOME Mini Catalog products and also with our seam bindings and Big Shot.  It was a funtastic evening!

More Boyish Birthday Cards

I promised to show this one awhile back. My apologies for the delay.  I had to figure out why blogger was turning the image sideways.  This is a card that I made for our youngest son, Zach.  He really likes the Sonic the Hedgehog characters and this one, Silver, is one of his favorites.  I printed this image off of the internet and then cut it out with my Circle Scissors Plus and then cut a black circle mat for it.  I used my Tasteful Trim XL die to cut out the zig zag, but then....yes then....I saw the leftover pieces.  Ha!  I used the leftover pieces instead!  Needless to say, my Zachboy loved it.
And this is a card I made last night for a party that my oldest is going to today.  What to do for a 14 yr old's card???  I embossed the Extreme Guitar image with clear EP and then sponged around it with River Rock and Old Olive, then rubbed the edges of the Very Vanilla cardstock on my Real Red ink pad.  The background is some leftover strips from a pkg. called Dasher, which was from a few years back.  Doesn't really look like Christmas when you put it with these other images.  After gluing the strips of DP onto a piece of Old Olive, I ran it through the Big Shot with my Lattice embossing folder.  Doesn't that look cool?  You can't even tell that it's separate strips glued on!  The "party hearty" greeting is mounted on a tag from the Lots of Tags Sizzlits, an exclusive to Stampin' Up!
And what does a teenager want?  Money!  I think all of the card that I've made in the last 6 months for birthdays have been money holders.  I guess that means that the kids are getting older.  On this one, I stamped the cake and words from Birthday Bakery and colored it in with my SU markers.  The money holder was stamped a few times with the Extreme Guitar image and then sent through the Lattice embossing folder.  It's attached to the inside of the card with Sticky Strip, to make sure it stays on tight.  Oh!  But before I stuck it down, I took a bite out of it with my oval punch.
So there's your trip into my world of boys.  Definitely, they're harder cards to make and not quite as fun, but I DID have some fun, so that's ok.
Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station!

Julie

Another Challenge Complete!

Two challenges in one!  The first challenge was to get this uploaded, edited and published on my husband's laptop, instead of my own!  (My new laptop had a bad hard drive and Blu-Ray player, so had to go in for some repairs :(  )  I'm seriously missing my photo editing program!  And I don't have my copyright image on this computer, so pretend that you see a copyright by Stampin' Up! on this photo, k?  The second challenge was the colors.  It's from Stampin' Addicts' SACC85 to use Pacific Point, Garden Green, Rich Razzleberry and Basic Gray.  Two of my friends sent me a link to this cross image, made from the lattice die, so of course I had to try it!  Isn't it beautiful?  The Easter Wishes was stamped on the scallop square punch, but I sent the square through the punch a second time to punch off the first layer of scallops.  The little flowers are from the Tiny Tags stamp set and the greeting is from All Holidays.  The back layer of the greeting was cut with a Lots of Tags sizzlit and finished off with some Basic Pearls.  (I'm on my third package of those already!  That's how much I love them.)  The background is the Sanded BG stamp.
Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station once again.  I hope you have a fun weekend planned.
Blessings,
Julie

Josh's Birthday Cupcake

We celebrated my nephew's birthday last Sunday just before the Super Bowl started.  It's hard to believe he's eight already!  I was cleaning up the scrap room (aka crap room!) and found this fun retired DP, which inspired the color scheme of the card.  I didn't want a traditional scallop edge, so I punched three scalloped ovals and glued them to the back.  My nephew loved the saying on here and on the inside, it said, "There's something special about your birthday.  Must be you."  He thought that was pretty cool, too!  Both sayings are from the new Buils-a-Cupcake stamp set.  The scalloped square is from the Two Scalloped Squares Bigz Die and the cupcake is punched with the Build-a-Cupcake punch.

Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station.

Blessings,
Julie

p.s.  I typed this whole thing one-handed, since my sweet kitty was laying on my arm.  Just thought you might enjoy hearing about that.  :-)

Leftovers Are Good!

You know, I just realized that I never showed you how my Christmas cards turned out!  Silly me!  But it did work out because now I can show you how I used the leftovers.
This photo was taken in Hawaii, on a trip to celebrate my in-law's 50th anniversary.  My DH thought it would make a great Christmas photo and I went in to panic-mode, thinking "how on earth am I going to make a tropical photo into a Christmas card?!"  So I got out my River Rock cardstock and cut out a bunch of Top Note die cuts for the frame.  And then I got out my retired stamps from last summer's mini catalog, and started stamping them in Ruby Red and Always Artichoke.  (Yes, I was trying to use up some retired Ruby Red ink and cardstock.)  And this is how it turned out.  I like it!  But...I made 85 cards.  Do you know how many Top Note die cuts I had left???  So, what to do with them?  Well, Sale-A-Bration was coming up, so I held onto them, thinking I could probably come up with something.....
And this is the result!  :-)  We also used the Top Note die cut for the inside, a nice way to tie in the layout.  This is a super-easy card to make and the guests at the last workshop really had a lot of fun with it.  After minimal stamping and cutting around the frame, the card came together very quickly.  And don't you just love those butterflies?  Supplies for this card are Baby Blossoms and Fresh Cuts stamp sets, Springtime Vintage DP (LOVE that paper!!!), Marina Mist, River Rock, Rose Red, Certainly Celery and Very Vanilla cardstocks and inks, Framed Tulips emb. folder, Beautiful Wings Embosslit.
And here is the last card that we made at the workshop.  It's a Valentine of non-traditional colors.  I like that!  You've already heard me say multiple times that I'm not a pink person, so this one was right up my alley.  The great thing about this card is that, since it's non-traditional Valentine colors, it can also be a birthday or wedding card.  The design is a CASE of a card that I found online, but I can't remember where I found it!  So... if this is your card, please leave a comment here so that we can give you credit!  The embossing folder is one of my fav's (Elegant Lines) and and shows the complete pattern on the inside of the card.  Cool!!!!  And the scallop piece is the Ribbon punch.  Isn't that fun?  The supplies for this card are Punch Potpourri stamp set, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, and Regal Rose cardstock, Woodland Walk DP, Ribbon and Full Heart Punches, Scalloped Heart of Hearts Embosslit, Elegant Lines Emb. Folder, Wild Wasabi, Regal Rose, and Pink Pirouette markers, Basic Rhinestones.

Blessings to you,

My Other Two Cards For the Mini Swap

This card was really fun to create and came together very quickly.  I used the cupcake stamp and punch to make the center, the SAB designer paper and die cuts, and the SAB button.  Super fast and easy.  I also made some of these in White with a different scallop border die cut.  And don't you just love those polka dots?!  They are so fun!
And last, but not least, this was my favorite of the cards that I made.  Maybe that's because it's all about chocolate!  (That is the 5th food group, after all.)  This card used the Framed Tulip embossing folder and Eat Chocolate stamp set from the Occasions Mini.  The scallop strip was made with my Bigz XL die from the last Mini, but it's still available.  Isn't it pretty with the pearls on it?  And you can use the die to cut out fabric, too.  The scallop square behind the circle was made with another Bigz die from the last Mini.

Ok, enough for today.  Tomorrow I'll show you the swaps that I received, so make sure that you come back to visit.

Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station.

Blessings,

Three Amigas...Three Challenges!

I love my stamping friends!  I've met such wonderful people since I began demonstrating for Stampin' Up!  I really didn't expect new friendships, but I've been richly blessed by them.  My friends Sharon, Joanne and I haven't been able to get together recently for a stamping playdate, so we decided to do a virtual playdate.  :-)  Isn't that hilarious?  Anyway, we were all to come up with a challenge and we needed to post our projects by tonight, midnight.  Oh yes, if you happen to be attending Ashley's workshop this Saturday, you'll be making these fun projects!
This sweet treat is for Joanne's challenge....to stamp something sweet.  I'd also planned something like this as a project for this Saturday's workshop, so double-bonus on this one.  :-)  This project uses the Designer Paper from Sale-A-Bration, ribbon from SAB, three hearts punch, half pearls colored with a sharpie, and the stamp set Eat Chocolate.  Oh yeah, I'm loving that stamp set!  The idea for this candy holder came from my dear blogging buddy Janet.  Thanks for sharing your wonderful idea, Janet!
This card is for my challenge.  My challenge was a color combo...Elegant Eggplant, Pear Pizzazz, Baja Breeze, and Peach Parfait.  I didn't get the extra points for using pearls.  :(  The layout for this is from SC317.   I used the Designer In Color Pack, which is a hostess level 1 set from Stampin' Up.  How sweet is that?!  And did you know that the Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain would match so nicely with the Peach Parfait DP?
The last challenge was from Sharon.  We were to use a "found" item, ie. something from around the house, like a jar lid.  I saved my netting yesterday that the mini watermelons came in.  How fortuitous!  I used the cardboard that is the backing of each DP pack, punched a 2 1/2" circle out of it, used packing tape to attach the netting to the edges of the cardboard and sponged over it.  After that, I punched the circle out, attached it to a scallop made with my Scallop Circles #2 Bigz Die and went from there.  This sketch is from SASC80 and the color combo is from SACC79.  I think one of the beatiful things of papercrafting is that you can find inspiration from so many sources.
And this is what my sponging template looks like.  Packing tape holds the netting on very well.  I didn't try to pull it evenly, because I wanted the "natural" look.

So, blogging friends, what can you do with these challenges?  I'd love to see them!  Please post them somewhere online and leave a link at one of our blogs so that we can find them and leave a love for you.  There's no time restrictions for you.  We'd love to see how creative you all can be.

Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station.

Blessings,
Julie

I'm Sorry Daisy

I went over to stampinaddicts.com to play in some challenges.  This card incorporates the SACC78 and SASC79.  Which means that the colors were Pear/Kiwi, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White, and Basic Black.  I've been wanting to use my daisy Bigz Die for awhile, so this is it.  Very fun and quite simple to make.  I also used my new Tulips Frame embossing folder from the Occasions Mini.  Isn't it a beautiful pattern?

Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station!

Paper Flower Scallop Circle Bouquet

Ever need a bouquet and hate to have the flowers die right away?  Here's an idea.  A guest at a workshop showed me how she cut many flowers at once with her Cricut ... and then I told her how easy that would be with the Big Shot and the Bigz dies.  I used some of my retired colors for this project (yoyo yellow, crushed curry, ruby red, only orange, really rust), cut out 4 scallops for each flower, snipped into the centers, folded the petals both directions, then used pop-up glue dots to attach them to floral tape covered wooden dowels from H.D.  The centers are 1" and 1 1/4" punched circles.  Super easy and I'll have this bouquet all season long!  Yes!

Blessings,

Apparently, Landscape Orientation is Working....

Ok, so I can't share with you the cards that are Portrait style, but I can share this one with you.  Grrr....  I used the retired Slumber Party DSP on the squares.  I will be sharing how to make this gorgeous flower with my World Card Making Day guests tomorrow and then I will post the instructions for you.  I sure wish that I could find the blog where this technique was shown, but alas, I can't find it back.  So...if this was from your blog or you know where it was posted, please let me know!
The greeting is from Because I Care, a beeeeeeeeeautiful Hostess Level 1 stamp set.  The frame behind it was cut with the Big Shot and the Matchbox XL Die.  the pearls are the new adhesive backed half pearls.  These are the BEST!!!!  Seriously, this could be one of your cheapest and best investments in your card making supplies!

Thanks for stopping by the Stamping Station.  I'm hoping that I'll have better news about the photos soon!

Blessings,
Julie

Recipe:  Because I Care stamp set. Sahara Sand & Riding Hood Red cardstock.  Modern Label, 2 3/8" Scallop Circle and Fancy Flower punches. Big Shot and Perfect Details texturz plate.  Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz and Basic Pearls.
