more progress on the 'New'
Well the cooperative idea for the New S&D seems to have caught a lot of people's imagination so I'm going to look a lot more deeply into it. I suspect the cooperative model will become far more common after Peak Oil.
The good thing about it is that local people who will travel on the line, local businesses who will use the line for their freight traffic, councils along the route, railway enthusiasts and the peak oil crowd will all be keen to take a stake in it.
It also tips a nod in the direction of the average Swiss railway, which is often part owned by the communities through which it runs.

discussion point
I've been looking at business models for the New S&D and one which looks ideally suited to us is the cooperative. I've read a few bits praising them - has anyone out there got any negative thoughts they'd like to share here?
Also would this be the first case of a rail reinstatement group also being a cooperative?
Thanks!
