T. DAVID GORDON: WHY JOHNNY CAN'T PREACH: The Media Have Shaped the Messengers

.
MP3 Available Here

T. DAVID GORDON, Professor of Religion & Greek at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, will address the theme of his book "WHY JOHNNY CAN'T PREACH: The Media Have Shaped the Messengers".

Our guest, Dr. T. David Gordon, wrote the book we are discussing today after having been diagnosed with stage III colorectal cancer. He was told he only had a 25 percent chance of survival, and believed he only had several months to live. The dominance of poor preaching from conservative evangelical and even Reformed pulpits is what Dr. Gordon most wanted to warn pastors and pastors-to-be about before leaving this earth and entering into eternity with Christ Jesus.

Praise be to God, Dr. Gordon is currently in remission, but out of his trial was born what should prove to be an invaluable tool to either prevent those desiring to enter the ministry from beginning their vocation as failures from behind the pulpit, or to rescue those well-meaning pastors who already have burdened their congregations with ineffective, impotent and fruitless sermons, perhaps for years.

Before joining the faculty of Grove City College, Dr. Gordon was an Associate Professor of New Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for 14 years and Pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashua, NH for 9 years.

GABRIEL GROSSI: "WHAT IS WRONG WITH PREACHING TODAY?"

MP3 Available Here

GABRIEL GROSSI, Reformed Baptist evangelist and author of "Preaching With Biblical Passion" and his new book "Preaching the Gospel Message" will address the question: "WHAT IS WRONG WITH PREACHING TODAY?"

According to today's guest:

"American Society is in a state of crippling moral chaos, because the church is in a state of spiritual & doctrinal chaos! The only hope for our country is the preaching of the true biblical Gospel of the Word of God! Both the Evangelical and sadly some Reformed churches are diluting-denying-neglecting-avoiding to emphasize and stress every part of the Gospel Message that was stressed-highlighted and emphasized by Christ and His Apostles! The biblical weight-emphasis and priority in the modern day proclamation falls short of the Gospel Message recorded in Scripture! I am calling preachers back to the Bible to humbly re-evaluate and seriously re-examine their Gospel preaching...

...I can understand the Evangelical Church compromising the Gospel Message but I am appalled and shocked the way some Reformed churches are failing to biblically stress-emphasis and highlight every biblical part of the Gospel Message! The primary purpose of preachers is to be faithful in proclaiming the balanced Gospel committed to their trust by Christ their Lord. This biblically balanced Gospel of Scripture must proclaimed to the members and participants of churches throughout all of our country...

...The Christian Church is the last hope for our country and if we do not emphasize-stress-highlight every part of the Gospel Message, God the Holy Spirit is grieved and will not bring a genuine revival and will not produce genuine conversions unto Christ!...

... The Scriptures, the great Church Confessions and the great preachers of Church history are all to be carefully investigated to see if in fact we have departed from the Gospel Message recorded in the Bible."

PASTOR DAVID T. KING has been a minister of the Gospel for over 20 years. David is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS (M.Div. 1983), and has served as Pastor/Teaching Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and also the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), where he just recently answered the call to the pastorate of Christ Presbyterian Church in Elkton, MD . He is married, and has one grown child, a daughter. He is co-author with William Webster of the groundbreaking, three-volume set, "Holy Scripture: The Ground and Pillar of Our Faith" (see http://www.christiantruth.com/), which is a defense of the Reformation principle of sola Scriptura, including irrefutable documentation that this principle was a firmly held belief among the Church Fathers long before the Reformation and was not an invention of 16th century rebels.

His work has exposed the many errors and massive historical revisionism in which popular Roman Catholic apologists engage on the issue of Scripture and tradition. In addition to David's pastoral responsibilities and research activities, he has in the recent past been a guest on Christian talk radio as well as a featured speaker at Bible conferences dealing with various issues of Roman Catholicism. He has earned a very well deserved reputation for being an extremely powerful preacher and an extraordinarily gifted communicator.
