Here are some highlights from a letter written to Chris Arnzen, host of Iron Sharpens Iron:

Hello!

I listen to Iron Sharpens Iron over the internet (I live in Japan) and
happened upon a discussion Dr. Fred Miller had with Chris Arnzen in 2008.

I spent over 15 years in Rev. Moon's group, and was married to a man chosen for me by Moon. After 15 years, and after our first two children were born, I realized it was all based on lies and deception and left the group. My husband listened to what I had to say, and he had to admit it was all a lie too. We didn't even know if we should keep our marriage since it was based on Moon's decision! But we knew divorce wasn't an option with two small children and we somehow kept going. It was the most difficult time in my life.

Later on, the Lord led us to Himself through the Bible (and some books by CS Lewis) and we were baptized in a Christian church ten years ago. It hasn't been easy but somehow God has never let go of us, he has guided us to this day.

We now have 5 children, and live in Japan (I am American, my husband is Japanese), and are raising our children the best we can in a nation where Christianity is less than 1%!

I wanted to tell you this, because when Chris asked Dr. Miller if he knew people who had left, how they fared - I wanted to let you know there is hope! I hope our story can be a help to others you may meet.

I am SO GLAD Dr. Miller is trying to alert pastors and ministers to the truth of the many front groups used by Rev. Moon to get into the churches.

Hi, I am a Malagasy living in Madagascar. I am 24 years old. I am a real fan of Muslim and Christian debates. I am a Muslim. I have followed the debate on your show with David and Zawaddi. I really appreciated it. I want you to mail me some info about debate web sites and detail of the debates if possible. I have studied the Bible and Koran for few years.

I am SO VERY GLAD that Muslims like you are listening to my "Iron Sharpens Iron" radio program (even all the way over in Madagascar)!!! I highly recommend you also investigate the ministry of Dr. James R. White, an Evangelical Christian apologist actively involved in debates with various renowned Muslim apologists. Dr. White's organization, Alpha & Omega Ministries, can be reached at http://www.aomin.org/. Please keep listening to "Iron Sharpens Iron", and keep spreading the word about it in the Islamic community. Grace & peace!

Here are some highlights from a letter written to Chris Arnzen, host of Iron Sharpens Iron:

Dear Mr. Arnzen:

I want to thank you for your gracious and generous gift of the NASB Bible for being a first-time caller to your program. I've been listening for about six weeks and always look forward either to listening live or downloading the program whenever I can. I came across your program when one of your former guests, Pastor Joe LoSardo, helped me out with a survey I was conducting among pastors and seminary professors on the effects of the New Atheism (Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, et al.) on the evangelical Christian community. Pastor LoSardo recommended your show and sent me an MP3 of the program he had been on recently, so that was how I found you. Actually, though I study in Alabama, I'm from the Philadelphia area, so hearing New York accents occasionally almost feels like a taste of home. Of course, the content is the most important thing, and I appreciate the program for that reason most of all.

[Your recent show about the Emergent Church] was especially significant for me, because I am currently considering writing my doctoral dissertation on the Emergent Church phenomenon. That's why I've been reading Brian McLaren--not because I am attracted to any of this, but because I am simply researching this trend. Truth be told, I am appalled by most of what I've learned about the Emergent Church: it strikes me as a "cartoon Christianity," and it's hard for me to believe that sincere believers are falling for this stuff. So if you're inclined to do more programs on the Emergent/Emerging Church, please know that I will be listening appreciatively.

In Christ,
Ted

Here are some highlights from letters written to Iron Sharpens Iron guest GABRIEL GROSSI (Reformed Baptist evangelist and author of "Preaching With Biblical Passion) after his ISI interview, "WHAT IS WRONG WITH PREACHING TODAY?"

I was brought up in the Baptist church. However I am increasingly discouraged at the preaching, and churches not following the word of God. Please send me copy of your book Preaching the Gospel Message. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and God Bless you, John

Hi Gabe,

I heard your interview on Iron Sharpens Iron and would like a copy of your book, Preaching the Gospel Message. I am a seminary student and have been dismayed at the quality of gospel preaching in my church as well as some I have visited. I will read your book and give you feedback.

Grace and Peace to you, Dan

Dear Mr. Grossi,

I was very interested to hear about your ministry through Iron sharpens Iron. I am a reformed Baptist who has been involved in city evangelism and some lay preaching which I have loved to do. After much prayer and searching I don't believe my calling is to be pastor but I feel that I must do whatever I can to spread the gospel of Christ to as many people as possible. I hope to continue to use tracts, personal witnessing and most of all preaching to accomplish that. Is there any where I can read more about your ministry. I would like to know how God called you into it. Do you preach in different churches as the primary work of your ministry? I would also like to ask for a copy of your book.

Thanks a lot, Joshua

Mr. Grossi is offering his book "Preaching the Gospel Message" FREE of charge to anyone seriously interested in learning more about the True Gospel and who promises to read it. You can contact him at (973)299-1579 or send him an email at GabeGrossi@verizon.net.

Hi,

I'm a listener living in England (I'm from Okla, but married an Englishman) and I appreciate your show very much. I listened to Tues and Wed.'s shows just yesterday and found them both interesting. There are so many other shows you've done that I have also found interesting or helpful, too many to mention! But I will say that one on Womanly Dominion was very good; it made me get up and see if I could tackle the problem with our dishwasher (to take womanly dominion over it!) - I didn't manage to solve the problem but I think it was good to try again before calling the repairman! I hope to be able to get those books.

I wanted to say, after hearing of the fact that your website is blocked at some library, that also sometimes our NetNanny blocks or warns us (depending on the setting) of your site, because of "Hate/Violence" ! It does not always do that (today there was no problem) and I am at a loss as to why it does flag your site,
except perhaps you have some words in your synopses that bother it.

OK, I've just clicked "older posts" at the bottom, and the page that was to come up was blocked for "Adult/Mature" and "Hate/Violence" (I can unblock it - I trust your site!). A quick look through the first few podcast synopses on that page makes me think that at least one of the issues is your post on the violence in India, especially a description of murder/torture of a priest and nun. There may be other things, but that is the one I found first.

I don't know if that will change how you write your synopses, but now you have a little more feedback with which to make a decision.

Of course, the library in question may have NetFinney installed! (http://tominthebox.blogspot.com/2007/01/net-finney-guards-families- against.html )

Again, I really appreciate your show.

in Christ
Karen

Dear Sister Karen,

Greetings from the USA! I am delighted to hear that "Iron Sharpens Iron" has another listener in England. My audience appears to be growing over there. Thank you for your encouraging words. I passed on your email to Pastor Mark Chanski who authored "Womanly Dominion" and I am certain he will be thrilled to hear of your enjoyment over his interview.

Thanks also for letting me know that your "NetNanny" sometimes blocks my program. I am not sure how that can be avoided but I will discuss the matter with my webmaster. Grace and peace, sister! Please keep listening and keep spreading the word about "Iron Sharpens Iron" in the UK!

BTW, it may interest you yo know that a listener of my program from Ireland heard my guest Pastor John Otis from Corpus Christi, Texas, discuss the evils of Freemasonry and then invited John to London, England to participate in a debate between two Reformed Christians and two high-level Freemasons on "Is Freemasonry Compatible with Christianity?" You can look up John's interview at www.sharpens.org to hear the exact date of the debate in London should you wish to attend (if it hasn't already occured).

Here are some highlights from a letter written to Chris Arnzen, host of Iron Sharpens Iron:

Hello Chris,

I was pleased to find that you have a radio program on WNYG. I never listen to that, as most Christian stations these days lean towards theological teaching that I am not interested in.

The way I found your program was that, on a whim I was searching for Joel Nederhood. I used to get up early to watch Faith 20 and listen to the Back to God Hour on a regular basis. It was very instrumental in my faith as I left the Roman Catholic Church. I listened to the MP3 of the show with Nederhood that you did recently. I enjoyed it very much.

I did not go the reformed route, I went the Lutheran route (Missouri Synod) which I found to be faithful to the scriptures and Christ centered as well. (Although I respected reformed teachers on Family Radio [until Camping started losing his mind] and others like RC Sproul, Nederhood, Kennedy, Boice, etc) I am currently working full time at a Lutheran church as it's youth minister.

I attended those old debates with the Rev White and others that you ran back in the day. Are there any more of these? In this post- modern age, I find that the theological issues are not as big to people as is one's personal expression of faith and faith story.

Well I just thought I would send you this note. Blessings to you and keep up the good work,

Chris

Dear Brother Chris,

Thank you so very much for your encouraging words regarding my "Iron Sharpens Iron" radio program. I am delighted that Dr. Joel Nederhood's interview was particularly a blessing to you.

As far as Dr. James R. White's debates are concerned, you can get updates on all of his upcoming debates and speaking engagements at www.aomin.org. He has no immediate plans for a Long Island debate, but is frequently traveling elsewhere to debate, lecture and preach. Please pray that I will be able to find a debating opponent for Dr. White representing Roman Catholicism or one of the major cults who is prominent enough in his church or cult to warrant Dr. White's traveling to Long Island amid his already busy schedule.

Please keep listening to "Iron Sharpens Iron", and please spread the word about the program in whatever state you live in. I pray our Sovereign Lord uses you mightily in the lives of the youth whom you minister to at your Lutheran congregation. Please also pray for me and for "Iron Sharpens Iron". Without the financial support of more faithful advertisers sponsoring the program it cannot and will not continue to exist. Grace and peace!

Here are some highlights from a letter written to Chris Arnzen, host of Iron Sharpens Iron:

Chris,
Greetings in the name of the Lord. I wanted to pass on something to you. On September 23, I will be in London, England to participate in a two hour debate on live Christian television regarding the subject - "Is Christianity Compatible With Freemasonry."

It is a panel of four of us, two for and two against. The Masons my teammate and I will debate are high level Masons in England. I thought I would pass this on to you because essentially this was brought about because of our December program on my forthcoming book on the subject.

A man in Ireland who organizes the debates for Revelation television heard our interview that was posted on sermonaudio.com. He then called me and wanted to have a Reformed Calvinist as the other anti-Mason. So, if it were not for your show Chris, this opportunity would not have happened. I just wanted you to know that "Iron Sharpens Iron" reaches out in so many different ways. You have a great ministry.

I plan to release my book titled Unveiling Freemasonry's Idolatry sometime in late October. As we discussed previously, we could have a follow up show sometime in October prior to the release of the book, and you could mention that your program helped lead to my participation in this London debate.

Revelation television is one of two major Christian stations in England with a viewing audience in all of England, Ireland, and parts of Northern Europe. This station in England awhile back had Dr. James White on debating on predestination, which was a big success.

I always like to share with others how their ministry is promoting the cause of Christ. "Iron Sharpens Iron" is a great avenue in this cause.

In Him, John

Dear Pastor John,

WOW!!! What wonderful news!!! I will pray that our Sovereign Lord uses you mightily for His Glory during your debate in England on Freemasonry! I am so delighted that the "Iron Sharpens Iron" listener in Ireland has arranged this opportunity for you! Grace & peace!

Here is a letter written to ISI guest Dr. Steven Lawson about his recent interview on Iron sharpens Iron (FOUNDATIONS OF GRACE: A Long Line of Godly Men)

Mr. Steven Lawson, I recently read (AOMIN) that you thanked God for Chris Arnzen and his ministry, "Iron Sharpens Iron." You were quoted as follows: "I thank God for Chris Arnzen and his Christ- centered ministry with IRON SHARPENS IRON. Most grateful am I for his unwavering commitment to the absolute truth of Scripture. Here is a rare voice on the radio today. May the Lord set a wide and open door before this vibrant program for all to hear." ---Dr. Steven J. Lawson, Senior Pastor of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church, Mobile, AL Q. Can you tell me what exactly Mr. Arnzen's unwavering commitment to the absolute truth of scripture is? Q. How did he determine what is the absolute truth of scripture? Who told him? The Scripture? You maybe? Q. Is scripture self authenticating? Q. Since all of us are fallible, could Mr. Arnzen be wrong in his personal interpretation of what he believes the absolute truth of scripture is? Q. I'm sure you would agree that there is only one absolute truth. Is that one truth only found in the RBC? If not, then why don't Protestants worship under one umbrella? Patiently awaiting your answers, Bob

Dr. Steven Lawson Responds:

Bob:

Thank you for writing. To answer your questions, the truth to which Chris Arnzen is committed may be summarized in the five solas of the Reformation. That is, he is committed to the truth that salvation is (1) by grace alone, (2) through faith alone, (3) in Christ alone, (4) based upon the authority of Scripture alone, which gives (5) glory to God alone. Mr. Arnzen came to this conviction by a plain interpretation of the Scripture under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Thus, God revealed and affirmed this to him. Mr. Arnzen is not wrong in this interpretation of God's Word. This one truth, stated above in five parts, is not found only in the RBC (I am assuming by that you mean Reformed Baptist Church), but wherever God's Word is taught in truth on these non-negotiable issues. All Protestants do worship under this one umbrella regarding these truths of salvation.

Blessings in Christ,

Steven Lawson

Dear Mr. Arnzen,

Thank you so much for your program. I enjoy getting to listen to your program from the MP3 downloads from your web site. Particularly, I wanted to thank you for having on your program recently a Church of Christ Minister who had been greatly impacted by Reformed theology. As a former long-time member of the Church of Christ who has been radically impacted by Reformed theology, I was greatly encouraged to see that there are others like me out there. I slowly came to accept these tenants over a few years. Oddly enough, I was convinced that the Bible taught unconditional election before I ever came to accept all the rest of the core tenants of historical Protestantism. Due to reading the Bible and works by Saint Augustine, John Calvin, Dr. R. C. Sproul, and Dr. James R. White, I have found what it truly means to trust in God and be completely thankful to God for the whole of my salvation and existence...

...Thanks again for your program, and I hope your program stays on the air for many more years to come and continues to have a positive impact on many others as it has on me.

Dear Brother Paul,

Thank you so very much for taking the time to encourage me through your email! I am delighted that you are being blessed by "Iron Sharpens Iron", in particular my interview with my friend, Church of Christ minister Joel Mark Solliday of Northern Light Church of Christ in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, on the positive influence that Reformed Theology has had upon him and a growing number of others in the Stone/Campbell Restoration Movement. I pray that my program continues to bless you. Please spread the word about the program down there in Alabama.

Chris:

I am emailing you from Australia, and would like to thank you for your faithfulness and your commitment to the Word of God as you deliver your radio program Iron Sharpens Iron. I have been a regular listener for 6+ months, first hearing of your program through James R. White blogging that first he was to be your guest. He has appeared several times since then, and he, along with your other guests, has been of tremendous edification and encouragement to me and my wife.

I have emailed the people from 1800 Now Hurt (Dan B.) thanking them for supporting your program and they responded in kind. I was rejoiced today to hear that Tulip Reformed Church has become another sponsor as well.

I do have a question which you may be able to help me in regards to. Is there a reason that your program's MP3s are released often without a description of the show / guests for several days? There are many US programs that I download via podcast, and having only the date of your program with no description makes it difficult when deciding what to listen to as priority with only a short amount of free time available. At the same time, I do appreciate that you make the MP3s available at all, and free of charge.

I must go - but thank you again. You can find me blogging at a new blog I founded with one of the Elders at my church, Cal.vini.st . I have not spoken with my Co-Blogger, but maybe one day in the future (Lord willing), we could call in international and give you a report on the unfortunate Church situation in Australia, but on a positive note, the life of Reformed men living down-under whom are desperate to be faithful in "preach[ing] the Word" (2 Tim 4:2). God is Sovereign and is still reigning in Australia for His glory.
I understand you're very busy, but would love to hear from you Chris,

Soli Deo Gloria,

Nathan

Hello Brother Nathan! I am so very thrilled that you and your wife are being richly blessed by "Iron Sharpens Iron" there in Australia! Please keep spreading the word about the program in the "land down-under."

Thank you as well for letting Dan Buttafuoco's law firm know that you appreciate them sponsoring the broadcast. Without Dan's support, the program could not possibly exist. I'm also delighted you share my joy over the recent sponsorship of "Iron Sharpens Iron" by Tulip Reformed Church in Ridgewood, Queens, NY. Pastor Bobby and his wife Nancy Almodovar are very dear saints, and I thank God for them.

I apologize that some of the MP3s posted on my web site, www.sharpens.org, are not labelled regarding the topic and program description. I hope to make a much greater effort to get all of the appropriate details to my web master on a more timely basis so they can be posted promptly. Your email is a very timely reminder.

I would love to interview you and any leaders of your congregation, as you suggested, for an update on the spiritual and theological climate of Australia. Let's try to bring that plan to fruition very soon.

Please continue to pray for "Iron Sharpens Iron", as it cannot survive without adequate sponsorship. Grace and peace, my brother! I thank our Sovereign Lord for your encouragement.

Here are highlights from a letter written to Chris Arnzen, host of Iron Sharpens Iron, and his response:

I've seen your name on various websites and the reason I am writing is that I read an answer you gave on "Iron Sharpens Iron." The question related to high profile Protestants that have gone "home to Rome" on the EWTN program "coming home" (I've watched it a few times....). In short, your answer stated that the few high profile, highly educated Protestants going "home to Rome" does not compare to the many who are leaving Rome for Christ. My question (I have not been able to find the answer to this one): Just how many people are leaving the RCC as compared to those leaving Biblical Christianity (or the Protestant Church in general) for Rome? I briefly attended RCIA and they made it seem like there is a tidal wave of Christians going "home to Rome."

Chris Responds:

I don't have any cold, hard statistics about the percentages of Roman Catholics converting to Evangelical Christianity vs. Evangelicals converting to Roman Catholicism, but perhaps one of my apologist friends may know the data.

I can say, however, that here in a largely Roman Catholic area like New York, it is not uncommon to visit Evangelical congregations that are made up entirely (or nearly entirely) of former Roman Catholics, which often includes the pastoral staff itself. The vast majority of Evangelicals I have personally met from America's Northeast are former Roman Catholics. I seriously doubt the reverse is true in the Bible Belt (I'm quite certain we all would have heard by now if there were Roman Catholic congregations springing up in areas heavily populated by Evangelicals where the priests and parishioners were predominantly former Evangelicals).

Having said that, if conversions from Evangelical Christianity to Rome ever do dwarf conversions from Rome to Evangelicalism in their numbers, it proves nothing. Mass appeal for any religion, group or thing doe not signify its true worth. "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it" (Matthew 17:13).

In addition to Richard Bennett's and Joe Mizzi's wonderful ministries, I highly recommend the ministry of Dr. James R. White, which is "Alpha & Omega Ministries," the ministry of William Webster, which is "Christian Resources," the ministry of Eric Svendsen, which is "New Testament Research Ministries," the ministry of Rob Zins, which "A Christian Witness to Roman Catholics," the ministry of Mike Gendron, which is "Proclaiming the Gospel Ministries," the ministry of Ken Silva, which is "Apprising Ministries," and the blog of James Swan . I pray their invaluable resources are a blessing to you during your current trial.I hope to hear you call in sometime soon during a live broadcast of "Iron Sharpens Iron"!

what a fantastic show you had today with Irene Spencer. So timely as well, with the case in the news, and surely many people (like myself) wishing they could sit down with these women and understand what it is that brainwashes them so.

I listened to Irene talk about her former life in the Fundamentalist Mormon church, and even though the pain of those years was clearly in her voice, the JOY in the Lord she has now was far clearer. I think this was one of your best interviews yet.

Mr. Chris Arnzen, I caught you!!...NOW What Am I to do???? I had heard of Iron Sharpens Iron many months ago on James White's blog and I may have listened to one...I don't recall. However, about the first week in Dec 2007, I became interested in ISI and downloaded all of the hosted MP3 files from 18 Jul 07 to present. I began listening to them in chronological order in Dec 08 and on 4 Apr 08 I caught up to the current broadcast. My commute time to work is only about 10 minutes...not practical for listening to an ISI broadcast. So, I mostly listened to the broadcast MP3 files while on the treadmill. They were exactly one hour long and that fit my scheduled walking time exactly. What happened though is that I became so interested in the ISI broadcasts that I began fitting in more treadmill sessions just to listen to ISI. The treadmill sessions were "my time" when no one disturbs me. So ISI has not only blessed me spiritually but also physically. ISI has introduced me to issues that I had not focused on before, enticed me to read books that I otherwise would not have read, and stretched my knowledge of theological issues. HOWEVER, I am still a United Methodist Arminian but now with stronger leanings toward Reformed Theology. Keep up the "good works" and who knows some day I may be won over.

Chris Arnzen responds:

Thanks so very much for your encouragement! I need it now more than ever. It would help me enormously if you would visit the web site of Dan Buttafuoco, Esq., of Buttafuoco & Associates, and tell Dan how much the broadcast means to you, and thank him for sponsoring it. Go to http://www.1800nowhurt.com/ and click on the "Contact Us" button, then fill out the windows on the right side of your screen, adding your comments about "Iron Sharpens Iron". It would also be wonderful if you tell others you know who also enjoy the program to do the same!

Please spread the word about "Iron Sharpens Iron" down there in North Carolina. Please keep listening to "Iron Sharpens Iron". Grace & peace!

ISI Mailbox: Catholic Conversion Stories

Here is a letter written to Chris Arnzen, host of Iron Sharpens Iron, and his response.

Mr. Arnzen, Why are there so many Protestant ministers, one after another, from all denominations continuously converting to the Catholic faith? Just tune into EWTN's, "The Journey Home" program (just one source) and you can hear one conversion story after another. What gets me is that these men and women are not just your run of the mill, Sunday going church folk, who you could argue were just misinformed, or duped into buying into the grandeur and allure of the RCC. No, these folks are more often than not degreed ministers, some with doctorates degrees and theologians as well? Why?

Thanks for your interest in my "Iron Sharpens Iron" program, and taking the time to write. As for your question, I could have just as easily asked you why did so many brilliant Roman Catholic priests and theologians, in addition to common laymen, risk their lives and at times endure torture and death (and that of their families) in converting to Protestantism during the Reformation (sacrifices no guest on "The Journey Home" ever faced)? I can also add that the many testimonies of conversion to Catholicism I have seen on "The Journey Home" have never even come remotely close to impressing me or to cause me in any way to rethink my conversion from Roman Catholicism to Biblical Christianity 22 years ago.

I could also ask, specifically in relation to your question, why Catholics convert to Evangelical Protestantism even today in numbers hundreds if not thousands of times greater than the numbers of Evangelicals converting to Catholicism? Why is there an abundance of Evangelical ministers and a shortage and rapidly shrinking number of Catholic priests? Let's face it, the intelligence of those converting and the numbers of those converting in either direction proves nothing. There are Mormons, Muslims, Hindus, Occultists and Atheists who are geniuses. Conversion is a matter of the Holy Word and the Holy Spirit, and a simple, uneducated man will often see and embrace Truth while scholars in their ivory towers often embrace a lie. As a Catholic you can certainly appreciate the phrase "Athanasius contra mundum," or, "Athanasius against the world." This giant of the Faith upheld as a hero by Catholics and Protestants alike stood nearly all alone against the entire leadership of the Church in his day defending the deity of Jesus Christ, so joining a "Journey Home" bandwagon of conversion to Rome is not the slightest temptation to me.

All I can tell you, as a former Roman Catholic who converted to what I now believe to be the Biblical Gospel of Christ, the more years that go by and the more evidence I continue to see from history and from Holy Scripture, the more I am convinced that Rome does NOT possess the true Gospel. That should not be taken as mockery by me of your faith, since, as you know, centuries before I was born, Rome dogmatically declared at Trent that the Gospel I now embrace is false, and that subsequently I am accursed, and Trent still stands today as an infallible council of Rome despite the infinitely more liberal public relations efforts of Vatican II.

Thanks again for your interest in my "Iron Sharpens Iron" program, and I hope you call in with a question sometime, especially when our topic is related to Roman Catholicism. I pray that you prayerfully and humbly continue to search the Scriptures until you discover true grace and peace from the true Gospel of Christ.
