Two for One! A WSB DT & Mojo Monday Challenge Combo

I am posting a day early for the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs DT challenge, but I wanted to make sure I got my card linked up to Mojo Monday since their sketch this week inspired my card as well! The latest challenge coming up over at WSB is to use your Cricut to create a wreath for a card. I challenged myself to paper piece a wreath and ended up using my Mini Monograms cart and its awesome scallop circle feature. I have to say that this is probably my fav cart and fav feature hands down. I turn to it time and again for so many projects!

The paper I used for the card included The Paper Studio, Provo Craft & Autumn Leaves. The leaf paper I made using a SU Stampin' Round roller and Old Olive SU ink. The bling is by Studio 18, the ribbon is from a Christmas present I received last year ( i totally save all my packaging every year and upcycle it any way i can!), and the buttons are some vintage ones from my stash. I also used some Autumn Leaves ink in topaz to distress the edges of all the papers. I also used pop dots on each level of the wreath to give it some dimension. I used an SU sentiment inside the card and stamped "warm wishes" with SU Riding Hood Red ink. (don't you just love the cute names SU always comes up with for its ink?!)

Make sure you hop on over to WSB and check out what some of the other DT members came up with! And, check out Mojo Monday too if you get a chance...they always have great projects to inspire you! I also want to say that I am sorry for not posting so regularly lately. Things have been hectic. However, I promise to do a better job keeping up with my crafty postings even though it is one of the most busy times of the year due to the holidays. I am working on several projects and may even have another post to put up later today...or at least tomorrow! So make sure to check back! Happy Scrapping!

WSB Cupcake Card Challenge

The celebration is nearly over at Whimisical Scraps & Bugs. It was one year ago this month that the challenge blog started and I am so excited that it is still going strong. The final challenge for October's blog-iversary celebration is up, so hop on over and take a look! We would all love to see what you come up with too as this latest challenge is definitely a cool one!

For this particular DT challenge, Cindy told us all to use cupcakes, make a card, and of course, incorporate our Cricuts somehow. I used my mini mongrams cart to cut scallop circles at both 1 1/2" & 2" to make the "icing" on my cuppie. I then inked the edges and ran them through my cuttlebug using the divine swirls folder. I also used my pop dots to give the icing lots of dimension. I free hand cut the cupcake base and ran that through my cuttlebug as well using the swiss dots folder. I inked all the other edges with coffee ink by StampCraft and the cardstock is Bazzill while the patterned paper is Making Memories. The ribbon is from my stash, but I believe it is Offray. The cute little cherry is one of my vintage buttons that I adhered using some industrial strength adhesive of my hubby's and then I just attached a little fiber for the stem.

This was such a fun little challenge and I am so blessed to be on such a great DT with so many other sweet and talented scrappers. I hope you get a chance to hop on over to WSB and see all the other card creations the DT came up with, as well as play along on our next challenge! Happy Scrapping!

Monster Mash - WSB Challenge

Hello again! Earlier in the week I promised several posts this week filled with crafty goodness and, by golly, I keep my promises! LOL! Here is my latest layout for the WSB DT challenge! The challenge the very creative Cindy gave to us was to use lyrics on our project and to use three photos. Now, you can see from my layout that I did not use three photos. Why, you might ask? Well, because I didn't read the instructions very well and goofed! I hope she forgives me!! hehehe!

I have to admit that I got the basic inspiration for this layout out of one of my scrap magazines. I then added my own twists to it and changed it up. The photos are a few years old and are of my hubby, son, niece and nephew at my in-laws. Halloween is my family's fav holiday and this particular year we had a blast! I just love these photos!

I used Bazzill and The Paper Studio cardstock & K&Co., Making Memories, DCWV and Autumn Leaves patterned paper. I used a Sakura pen to write Halloween on the purple paper to simulate a ribbon and the green ribbon is AC. I used Thickers to spell MASH & my Cricut Mini Monograms cart to spell MONSTER. I drew a spider web with black Stickles and the spiders are some leftover Halloween rings I cut the ring portion off of and used pop dots on them for dimension. I also used black StampCraft ink on the edges of my photos to help them stand out a little better. I love this technique!

If you get a chance, hop on over to the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs site to check out all the other fun projects the DT did. I am posting mine a day early because I probably won't be able to tomorrow. As well, WSB is participating in the Fall Challenge Blog Hop and you definitely don't want to miss out on that! Today is the last day to participate so make sure you start out at Scrapsketch! I promise to be back one more time this week with some more projects I am working on! Happy Scrapping!

WSB Ad Inspiration Challenge

Cindy assigned an ad inspiration for the Whimsical Scraps and Bugs DT to work on. It was definitely a challenge as it took me a little while to decide what I wanted to do, and I ended up making a card that strayed a little bit from what I normally would do.

I am not a totally lovin' pink kind of a gal. I like it but don't use it a lot, which is saying a lot for me as I used to despise the color pink up until several years ago. However, as of late, I have been incorporating it more into my projects and really trying to stretch myself to explore its different shades. I also did a party invitation style card for this challenge, which is out of my normal zone too. It just kinda came together that way as I was wanting to use the canvas stickers that Cindy had sent me during a Cricut swap sometime ago. It just evolved from there and I may have an idea up my little sleeve now too!

For the card I used patterned paper by Daisy D's, Autumn Leaves and The Paper Studio. The stamps are Studio G, the ink is SU, and I also used my Stickles for the cherries. The canvas stickers are Scrapbook Inspirables by EK Success. I just love these and the dimension they add to a project! I used some StampCraft ink for distressing, the ribbon is from Michael's and I the button is from my stash and I just sewed it on.

Make sure you hop on over to WSB and check out some of the other cool projects the DT came up with. Also, you will definitely want to keep up with the blog on a regular basis. WSB's blogiversary is coming up soon and Cindy has some fabulous stuff planned, including our first ever blog hop! And, definitely check out the new challenge she just posted. We would love to see you play along with us to possibly earn a GDT spot or some yummy candy! Happy Scrapping!

Before & After - WSB Challenge 21

The latest challenge over at Whimsical Scraps & Bugs was to use the ampersand (&) from any of the Cricut cartridges on some type of project - could be layout, card, altered item, it did not matter. So for my project, I used the ampersand from the All Mixed Up cart on a layout about my most recent haircut that I am not crazy about. Thank God it is growing back fairly quickly and I don't plan on doing anything to it for a long time! Well, I don't think so anyway!!

I need to make sure to give credit to Stephanie over at iScrap. She is a DT member for WSB and she is one amazing scrapper! Her sketches are just fabulous and I have to admit I pretty much scraplifted this one completely from hers that was titled, A Good Read and used the Don Juan cartridge. Click here to check out some of Stephanie's amazing work! I also want to make sure I give some love to my son, TJ, too. He took the top photo of me one morning a week or so ago and I think he did a really great job. He loves cameras & taking photos and I am hoping he gets more into it as he gets older.

For my layout, I used All Mixed Up, Opposites Attract, and Mini Monograms. The cardstock is The Paper Studio and the other papers are Making Memories. Also, all this pink is quite a stretch for me and a challenge unto itself. I do like pink, but I am just not use to scrapping it a lot as I have mostly guys pages and stuff. So it was definitely fun to step out my little safety zone! I did some faux stitching around the edge of the die cut paper with a pen for some more detail and inked the edges of some of the papers with Studio G ink in a really deep fuschia. The silk flower is actually from the Dollar Tree. I just buy them in bunches there, get exactly what I need, then take them apart when I get home. Super easy and super affordable. The funky ribbon I picked up at Wal-Mart but I don't remember the brand.

This was a super easy project thanks to Stephanie's awesome sketch! I hope you take the time to jump on over to the WSB blog and see what all the DT members did. There are some super, super cute projects on the site! Make sure to leave us a comment too - we would love to hear what you have to say!

Happy Scrapping!

Smile - WSB Animal Crackers Challenge

The latest challenge over at the Whimsical Scraps and Bugs site was to use your Cricut to create a project featuring an animal. You could use any cartridge you liked, just as long as an animal was involved. I decided to use Paper Pups as my love for our fur baby knows no limits!!!

For this card I cut both the dog and the sentiment from Paper Pups. The black cardstock is Bazzill and the patterned paper is DCWV from the Green Stack. I distressed the edges of the paper and added a flower by Petaloo, as well as a button from my stash which I threaded with embroidery thread.

This is a pretty simple card, but I do like how it turned out. It is kind of playful and I like that it suited the mood I wanted too. Oh, and before I forget, I used a card sketch from PageMaps too! Almost forgot to give the shout out! LOL!

If you have a chance, hop on over to the WSB site and check out all the other awesome creations that are there! The DT members really went above and beyond this time with some amazing projects! Also, make sure to check out the site tomorrow for our next challenge - we would love to have you play along!

WSB Challenge and BBTB

I shouldn't be posting my project for the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs challenge this soon probably, but I wanted to make sure to get it up in plenty of time for the Bitten By The Bug challenge too! See, this time I combined several challenges at once for project we asked our WSB DT to create. We issued them an alphabet challenge - they had to create a project using the Cricut and the letter "S." I really enjoyed not only coming up with a project for the assigned challenge but combining it with the BBTB ShortCuts challenge and the Pile It On challenge.

The first project I did with the WSB goal in mind, the layout provided by BBTB/ShortCuts, and the non-stamped title/sentiment goal of Pile It On to create a layout of our son. The photo is of a recent trip we took to the Wichita Mtns. I then put the pic into Photoshop and desaturated some of the colors while leaving the flowers colored. I really love this effect!!!

I used the George cart for the flowers, for the title I used Opposites Attract and Beyond Birthdays, and for the butterfly I used Home Accents. All the paper is Making Memories, except for the black cardstock, which is Bazzill, and the black & white patterned paper, which is The Paper Studio. I inked the edges of the photo with black ink, used a white Sakura pen on the butterfly, and brads/skittles on the flower centers. The journaling tag is also Making Memories while the ribbon is Offray. The scalloped punch I used is by SU.

The second project I made is the Hello card, which actually pretty much matches the layout! This project is pretty much just for BBTB. This is the first time I have entered anything over there because all of their work is simply so amazing! The DT always blows my mind with their creativity! I really liked the colors I used on the layout so I decided to do something very similar for a second project. For the card, the same papers were used, except I only used the George cart for the flowers, and I used a Studio G stamp for the sentiment. The pink cardstock is Bazzill and I used Stazon ink in jet black, as well as pink skittles.

Please don't forget to check out all the wonderful projects the WSB DT will come up with for the alphabet challenge! All the projects will be posted Monday, along with our next challenge. For our new DT members this will be their first project for WSB and I just know they would love your comments. So, if you have moment, pop on over there Monday! And, don't forget to click on the links for the BBTB and the Pile It On sites too! Their sites are sooo awesome!

Challenge 19 - Father's Day Card

This challenge was definitely a challenge for me! For some reason I had so many problems coming up with ideas for the masculine card challenge using a Mojo Monday sketch. The WSB DT came up with exceptional creations and I do hope you all get a chance to check them out! I was very impressed with their talent, as always! LOL!

This card is really simple and I am not crazy about it, but my hubby really likes it. Like he told me, simple is sometimes best, so I am going to take that and run with it!! LOL! For this card I used both the Beyond Birthdays and Opposites Atrract carts. The cardstock is Bazzill and the patterned paper is Basic Grey. The ribbon is from Michael's. I also used skittles and then covered them with black stickles. I pop dotted both the oval and the phrase, as well as inked the edges of everything for a distressed look.

I would love it if everyone would hop on over to the WSB site and take a look at all the wonderful cards the DT came up with. We also have some new DT members on board and you can look at the page dedicated solely to them here. We would also love to have everyone take part in our current challenge and send us your creations! And, if you take the time to stop by and visit, please leave a comment! We love hearing from everyone!! Some pretty exciting stuff is happening at the WSB site, so make sure to check back often. A new blinkie for all the WSB lovers will be available soon as well as the opportunity to win some awesome goodies!

Music of My Heart - WSB Challenge 17

A color challenge was issued to the DT members at Whimsical Scraps and Bugs and wow! All the DT ladies really made some great projects! From layouts and cards to gift bags, there is a lot of creativity to see, so please make sure you check them all out here.

For the challenge we had to use the colors brown, white, turquoise, yellow and red. I decided to do a layout using some recent photos of our son at his end of the year band performance. I thought he just looked so cute in his little tie and they just did an amazing job at their concert. They are super good and recently got superior ratings at Tri-State! I am just so super proud of him and the band as a whole!

All of the paper, except for the red cardstock title, is K&Co. The red cardstock is Bazzill and I cut the word heart using the Opposites Attract cartride. The flocked stickers are by Colorbok, the polka dot letter stickers are by Making Memories, chipboard stickers are by Pressed Petals, and I believe the music note stickers are by EK Success. The word 'music' is a rub-on by Colorbok, as well. The flowers are just silk flowers from my local DollarTree, the yellow button is from my stash, and the heart button I received in a swap from Cindy (snoflak) - thanks girl!! The scallop punch is by SU.

I hope you have a moment to hop on over to WSB and see what the DT came up with, as well as what our next challenge is going to be! Also, we are having our latest DT call so make sure to check out the info for that too!

My Favorite Things - Challenge 16

Whew! This challenge was definitely that - a challenge! For challenge #16 over at Whimsical Scraps and Bugs, we asked the DT members to create a project of any type that answered the question of, "Why do you scrap?" The only requirement was to use their Cricut in some way on the project.

For this challenge, I decided to do something I had never done before - scrap without a photo. I have seen examples of this, as well as always read about it in my various scrap mags, but had never been courageous enough to try it. I really wanted to capture something different about why I scrap for this project, and decided to do a 12x12 layout.

I started out with an old book that I ripped the cover off of and just went from there. I made two vintage looking flowers out of some very old fabric I had laying around & some buttons. I also found a crocheted square that I believe my mother made years ago and just loved adding that element. Then, I just went crazy with doodling, splatter painting, stamping and writing.

The paper used was K&Co. from their Wild Saffron line. I also used some DCWV for the word, things, which I also cut with the Opposites Attract cartridge. I used black ink from StampCraft and the stamps are a variety of Making Memories, SU, and Studio G. The rub-ons are Color-bok and American Traditional Designs.

This layout was waaaayyy outside the box for me and not normally something I would've done, but I am glad I did it. I hope you all enjoy it and don't forget to check out the other projects, and our next challenge, over at Whimsical Scraps and Bugs!

Challenge 15 Project

Well for the challenge we gave our DT over at Whimsical Scrap and Bugs, we decided to use a Mojo Monday sketch that could be used for either a card or a layout. They also had to incorporate their fav lyric, quote, scripture, etc. into the project while also using their Cricut! I chose to do a card for the project and I also decided on a whim to submit that card for publication. And guess what! The amazing people over at Scrapbook News & Review chose my card for their upcoming issue!! Yay, me!!! (doing the happy dance - hehehe)

I wish, wish, wish I could share my project with everyone, but they have asked that I not publish anywhere for at least 30 days. Therefore, I can't even post it on the Whimsical Scraps and Bugs site either. But, I wanted to make sure everyone knew that I had completed the challenge and exactly what was going on. I will make sure to share it with you as soon as I can. I will tell you that the card involves nature and a sweet little song lyric.

So, in the meantime, please visit the DT site and check out all the cool cards and layouts the ladies came up with this time. They are always amazing and I love what they do!! Also, make sure to check out the site for our next challenge too - it is gonna be a fun one!! Hope you can play along too!

Times Like These

It was challenge time again for our DT ladies over at Whimsical Scraps and Bugs. The assignment we gave to them was to create a layout all about themselves and wow, they did such great jobs. I love all the different styles and types of creativity that come together! I am always so excited to see what they come up with - make sure you check out their projects too if you have a chance! For this challenge I was inspired (yet again!) by Beth who recently posted this on her site. I have heard this song a million times before, but never the acoustic version. She was exactly right - it moved me. And, it really applied to some stuff I have going on right now, so I put it on paper and I hope you like it. I struggled for most of the two weeks trying to get it just right, and finally finished it last night. Guess I work better on a deadline since I am such a huge procrastinator!

I used a TON of different products for this page and tried a few new techniques out too. The photo I actually took of myself recently. I put into Photoshop and typed the second verse of the song in a different layer before grayscaling it and then tweaking it with a film grain layer. The dots on the photo are rub-ons though. I also took the chipboard letters, which were blue, painted them black, then sanded them down to get a two-tone distressed look. I also used my Opposites Attract cartridge to cut the word "like" in my title. My two fav things about this page though are the polka dot flower, which my friend Annette gave me, and the sheet music, which is actually my son's. I loved incorporating that into this layout. The journaling at the bottom just talks about how some things I am going through at this moment will make me stronger and help me to become a better person in the long run if I let them. It's times like these that make us who we are and it is okay to feel a little crazy sometimes too!

Thanks for taking a moment to read my ramblings and look at my work! Hope you hop on over to Whimsical Scraps and Bugs to look at the other ladies challenges. If you want, join us for our next challenge - it should be a blast too!

Whimsical Scraps & Bugs Challenge 13

The latest challenge we gave our DT over at Whimsical Scraps & Bugs was to alter flash cards (or jumbo playing cards) using their Cricuts and an Easter theme. Wow! The DT came up with some really super cute ideas and I hope y'all check out their awesome projects on the blog.

I decided to make a stand-alone Easter banner for the challenge. I double layered the flash cards (for a total of 14) and then covered them with paper before inking the edges. I made sure not to adhere the top portion of the cards together so that I would have room to slip in a tag. Each card has a tag inserted - the first tag has John 3:16 on it and then the remaining six tags have a beautiful Easter poem on them. I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch holes in the tags and the cards with eyelets so that I could tie on ribbon.

The cartridges I used for this project were George for the tags & letters and then Home Solutions for the butterflies & flower embellies. I also used skittles, glitter glue & lots of flowers/ribbon. Products used include My Mind's Eye, Making Memories, Bazzill & The Paper Studio paper; StampCraft ink; Ranger Stickles; Prima flowers; and K&Co. ribbon.

Please make sure to check out our other ladies' beautiful creations and take a look at our next challenge. I plan on posting it Tuesday and hope to see a lot of beautiful results! Make sure to play along with us!

Challenge #12 - Lucky! Card

I had a BLAST doing this challenge Cindy and I assigned to our DT at Whimsical Scraps & Bugs! The ladies on the DT were asked to create a St. Patrick's Day card, non-traditional if possible, using their Cricuts and the color green.

For this card I used the Indie Art cartridge to cut both the dice and the word, Lucky! I used the George cartridge to cut hearts for the four leaf clover. I shadowed the dice, title and the hearts, as well as pop-dotted them. The cardstock used in the project is Bazzill and the patterned paper is Reminiscence. I also inked the edges of the patterned paper to give it a more distressed look and help it blend in more with the cardstock background. The buttons used in the center of the clover are some that I received in a swap, not sure of the brand. The finished size of the card is 6x6.

For once, I am completely satisfied with this card! Since I am not known for being the most self-confident scrapper (LOL!) this is a big deal for me. I feel more comfortable making cards than I ever have thanks to lots of challenges! I hope you enjoy this one too! I had to post this a little early as I will be away from my computer for the weekend. The rest of the DT's designs will be up by Monday! Make sure to check them out and we would love you to play along with our next challenge....you're gonna love it!!

Challenge #11 - Spring Card

Okay, for the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs challenge we had to do several things. We asked our DT members to create either a layout, card or altered item using only black & white. They were allowed to use one other color, sparingly, and had to include the word SPRING, cut with their Cricut. They also had to include some bling! I decided to do a card for the challenge and while I wasn't sure about it after I first completed it, the card is growing on me and I actually like it quite a bit!

I used the Opposites Atrract cartridge to cut the word, SPRING. The paper is a combination of Bazzill, The Paper Studio and generic white cardstock. Not sure who the bling is by, but the ribbon is from Michael's. I colored in three of the flowers on the patterned paper with a gel pen and also used my Sakura Gelly Roll pen in white for the dots on the letters. Oh, and I also heavily pop dotted the letters!

I hope you make it a point to go see all the wonderful creations our DT came up with for this challenge. They always do a great job. Hope you also decide to play along with us too! We would love to see everyone's take on the challenge!

Challenge #10 - Butterfly Wishes Card

Here is a card I made for Challenge #10 on the Whimsical Scraps and Bugs site. We had a sketch courtesy of 2sketches4you and it was a 3-2-1 challenge: three patterned papers, two embellishments, and one flower cut from any Cricut cartridge. We could do either a card or a layout.

I used a flower cut from the Home Accents cartridge & that is also what I used to cut the butterfly. The papers are American Crafts and Bazzill. I also inked the edges of the papers and pop-dotted the butterfly and the background papers. The greeting is Stampin' Up!

Hope you like this card and all the other wonderful creations the Design Team members came up with. Don't forget to check them out!

Challenge #8

Here is the layout for the challenge over at Whimsical Scraps & Bugs blogspot that Cindy and I host. Not only do we have a number of amazing layouts posted there for this challenge, but we also have a new group of Design Team members whom I know will bring amazing projects to the site for everyone to enjoy!

For this layout we had to incorporate a heart and use pink, red and white. I used the Indie Art Cricut Cartridge. The photo is one of my hubby, Andy, a few months after we first met. I took the photo at a park during our first picnic where he met my mom for the first time.

Products used included Bazzill, The Paper Studio, Making Memories, ProvoCraft rub-ons, and pop dots.

Make sure you visit the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs site to see all the great creations the DT members came up with for this challenge!

Challenge #7

It's that time again and here is my design for the blogspot Cindy and I host, Whimsical Scraps and Bugs. For this particular project we challenged our DT members to create a layout using a particular Page Map from www.pagemaps.com.

For this project I decided to use some photos of our son and my husband's parents, his Neena and Papaw, at Christmas a few weeks ago. I wanted to do something a little non-traditional for a Christmas-themed layout, hence the color combos. Probably my fav thing about this layout is that I was able to incorporate the ribbon from one of his presents into the layout.

I used my Cricut and the George cartridge to cut the triangle shapes for the Christmas trees, as well as Home Accents for the journaling tag and Opposites Attract for the title. Products used included Bazzill cardstock, My Mind's Eye & American Crafts paper, Queen & Co. felt flower trim, Making Memories brads, Prima flowers, Basic Grey rub-ons, skittles, pop dots & a white Sakura jelly roll pen for the journaling.

By the way, Whimsical Scraps & Bugs is hosting Round 3 of Design Team submissions. Hop on over to our blog and check it out. We would love for everyone to participate in our next challenge, which is a Valentine's Day theme, and submit your projects to us. We love to see all the wonderful talent that is present in our scrapbooking community!!
