Mid Month Tutorial by Ruza

Good morning! Today I'm sharing the Candy Wrap Tutorial that I created for the October Scor-Pal Challenge.

I created this diagram to go with my instructions on how to make a Candy Wrap for a Hershey King Size Candy Bar; Actual Size of Candy Bar is 2-1/4”H x 1/2"W x 7”L.

To get the height:
Add the height of the bar to the width of the bar, double that number, and then add a bit extra for the closure flap. That gives you (2-1/4" + 1/2") x 2” = 5-1/2”. I added 1-1/2” to that which gave me 7”.

To get the length:
Take the length of the candy bar and added 1/2" to each side (the 1/2" represents the width of the candy bar). That gives you 7” + 1/2" + 1/2” = 8”.

The paper size for a Hershey King Size Bar that you will need to make the candy wrap is: 7”H x 8”W

Now comes the instructions for making the candy bar wrap.
With the 8” side of your cardstock at the top of your scoreboard - Score at 1/2" and 7-1/2”.
With the 7” side of your cardstock at the top of your scoreboard - Score at 2-1/4”, 2-3/4”, 5” and 5-1/2”.
Burnish all of the Score lines.
Cut the Score Lines for the entire section(s) highlighted in yellow. This section become your closure flap.
The arrows shown above point at the Score Lines that need to be cut; these lines are only cut to the 1/2" mark, as shown in red.
Add your desired adhesive to the grey area. I used 3/8” Scor-Tape.
Next you will fold the 1/2" tabs towards the center; bring the two (2) 2-1/4” sides up, remove your Scor-Tape, then fold the side with the Scor-Tape over the other flap to form a pocket.
Decorate as desired.

I took the pictures below while I was making the Candy Wrap for the Hershey King Size Bar.

Using basic math and the same concept, I then made the Candy Wrap for a Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups (2) and a Ghirardelli Square.

Pinspired! by Ruza

Good morning! Ruza here as your Pinterest Inspired Hostess this month. What does that mean. Well ... I find something on Pinterest that I would like to try and re-create the project, but also make it my own. I was inspired by this One Sheet Mini Album created by Virginia Nebel from the Scrapbook & Cards Today Blog.

This lovely mini-album is beautifully made using only a 12" x 12" sheet of cardstock. I love the design, and then added a little bit of me into it.

I went with a Summer Mini Album since our Challenge Theme this month is about Summer. It also helped that I had left over Carta Bella Summer Splash DP to work with.

I started with the basic design that Virginia has in her tutorial. I took a 12" x 12" sheet of cardstock, and scored is at 3", 6", and 9" on one side, turned the sheet and scored at 6".

As shown in the photo above, I used my ruler and craft knife to cut out the center score lines; fold and burnish the score lines.

Fold the piece in half, and then push the sides together to see a square in the center, as shown below.

I laid the paper down, and folded it as shown in the first photo below. As you can see in the first photo, the arrows show that there are openings in the bottom. I used my 1/4" Scor-Tape to close these areas, as shown in the other two photos. However, I left the top openings alone.

I then folded and reburnished the cardstock, as shown in the first photo on the left below. Now for my addition to the design. Since the edges are not even, I added a closure to the Mini Album with magnets.

The closure is 2-3/8" x 6". With the 2-3/8" at the top - score at 1/2" and 7/8". Burnish the score lines. I put 3/8" Scor-Tape to the 1/2" flap on the inside, and then adhere it to the back of the mini album. I added large magnets to close the album as shown above.

The next addition I made was to the inside. There are two open areas at the top after folding that I didn't seal. I made and added two fold down flaps to one of them. You will see them more clearly when I reveal the finished album.

To create the flaps I cut two (2) pieces of 3" x 4-1/2" pieces of cardstock. With the 4-1/2" side at the top - score at 1/2". I trimmed off a sliver from the 3" side of the cardstock as shown in the first photo. Miter the edges and join these 2 pieces together with scor-tape, as shown in the second photo.

I added Scor-Tape to the sides standing up, and then slid them into the top slat. This is a bit tricky. I would remove only one side of the scor-tape, insert into the opening, and then take the Scor-Tape off of the other side. I learned my lesson on that part. It was very hard to do with the Scor-Tape off of both ends. My apologies for not taking a picture of this part before I decorated the pages.

The following photos show how I decorated the inside pages. I put stickers onto cardstock, cut them out then added 1/2" Scor-Tape to the bottom, or top, and added them to my pages to hold extra mini-photos or journalling pages.

The picture below shows the decorated flap raised. I used a magnet to hold down both sides.

Pinspired! by Ruza

Good morning! Ruza here as your Pinterest Inspired Hostess this month. I was inspired by this Fold Flat Soap Box created by Sam from the Pootles Blog.

The boxes Sam created are 1" x 2" x 4". Sam's tutorial can be found here. I really like the idea of being able mass produce boxes that fold flat for future use. However, I wanted a bigger box to hold a set of notecards and A1 envelopes.

The dimensions of my box needed to be 1" x  5-1/4" x 3-7/8", so I drew myself a grid on scratch paper, and started calculating the measurements. It was pretty easy to adjust the size to my needs. I took the width 5-1/4" and added 2" to get a width of 7-1/4". Then I took the height 3-7/8" (3.75") and multiplied it by 2 to get 7-1/2", and added 3" to get the height of 10-1/2". The 2" and 3" respectively represent the 1" side of the box.

The box I made is black so I created another box in white so you can see the Score-Lines.

I cut a piece of cardstock to 7-1/4" x 10-1/2". Scored 1" on all 4-sides. With the 10-1/2" side at the top of my Scor-Pal, I Scored at 4-3/4" and 5-3/4".

Using a ruler I gently scored the corners, as shown above. I drew the lines in with a pen after I burnished all of the 1" lines, as shown below.

Using your fingers gently fold at the corner scor-lines, and then use your bone folder to burnish the lines.

Your box will look like this.

Fold down the sides, as shown below, and cut the dashed lines (I wrote dotted lines on the photo). Make sure the you cut the correct side of the folds, or like me, you will have to remake your box. 😉

The dashed lines arrow show where to put your Scor-Tape. I used 1/4" Scor-Tape for my box. Please excuse the upside down picture (below) ... I have the "Top of the Box" at the bottom. Ooops.

Burnish the Scor-Tape, remove and adhere the edges together. It is best to do one side/section at a time.

Once again, I added 1/4" Scor-Tape as shown below with the dashed lines arrow. Burnish your tape.

I didn't take the second batch of Scor-Tape off of the white box. The picture below shows the box folded, and ready for storage. When I am ready to use the box I will remove the Scor-Tape, and fold it together.

I folded the box, without removing the Scor-Tape so you can see the finished product. Once the box is complete, decorate as desired.

I'm sorry that I didn't get a picture of the box open with the notecards inside. I forgot to take one, and I no longer have them in-house. This was a gift for my Book Buddy who loves hearts.

I used my Scor-Pal Eighths Board for scoring my cardstock to create the box, along with 1/4" Scor-Tape.

Mid Challenge Tutorial

This fabulous project was from one of team members in our current challenge and we wanted for you to be able to create it yourself so we have the tutorial for you.

Good morning! This month the Challenge at Scor-Pal is to create a Treat Holder using more than one-score. As the hostess this month, I am sharing how I made my project for the Challenge.

The following Products/Tools were used to make the Treat Holder: Scor-Pal Eighths Board ~ 3/8" Scor-Tape ~ 3/4" Foam Tape ~ Crop-A-Dile or Hole Punch ~ Ribbon.

To start you will need a 12" x 12" sheet of design paper or cardstock. Cut the 12" x 12" sheet down to 8-1/2" x 12". I used cream colored cardstock for my tutorial so that it is easier to see the score marks.

Step 1: Place your paper on your Scor-Pal with the 12" side at the top.  Score the paper at 3/4", 2-1/2", 5", 7", 9-1/2" and 11-1/4". Turn your paper so that you have the 8-1/2" side at the top. Score the paper at 2-1/2" and 6". (I created the above photo that shows the measurements for today's project.)

Photo shows the 12" side at the top of my Scor-Pal

Step 2: You will cut out each of the corners - from the 2-1/2" mark on the 12" side to the 2-1/2" mark on the 8-1/2" side. This will give you a 2-1/2" square in each corner (as shown in the next photo). Make sure you cut from the inside score line vs. the center of the score line.

Step 3: Use your Bone Folder to burnish all of the score lines.

Step 4:  Open your paper up so that it lays flat. With the 12" side at the top, take each of the corners and fold them in from the 2-1/2" mark to the 5" and 7" mark respectively, to create a triangle. If you are using heavy cardstock be very gentle when doing this step as it can cause the paper to tear.

Step 5: Once you have burnished your triangles, fold and burnish the paper along the 2-1/2" and 6" score-lines. The triangles should be on the inside of the fold.

Step 6: Fold and burnish the 3/4" towards the triangle for each side. Turn your paper over. Fold and burnish the 5" and 7" score-lines towards each other. This creates an open area for your treat. I used a binder clip to hold the two ends together to show how it folds together.

I have some small cello-bags that was perfect for my project. I put 2 pieces of candy in the bag, folded the top flap over and put it in the holder. A small binder clip was used in the center of the treat holder to keep it together, and in place, so I could punch the two holes (1 on each side of the binder clip) with my Crop-A-Dile. I removed the binder clip once I pulled the ribbon thru and tied it off.

Note: I used the 3/8" Scor-Tape to add the design paper to the 3/4" flap (as shown in the above photo), and the 3/4" Foam Tape for popping my signage onto the front (as shown below).

You can decorate your bag like I did, by covering up the "V" on the front and back OR you can use this area to put a piece of candy or tea bag inside. The "V" is like having extra pockets.

I hope you stop by to see the rest of the Treat Holders the Team made to inspire you for this months Scor-Pal More than One Score Challenge #42 ~ Treat Holders, and join in the FUN.

Until next time ... Enjoy!
