NATO forces backed by helicopters were battling Friday with insurgents who killed at least ten people, including a foreign soldier, in an assault on a British cultural center in the Afghan capital.
At least five blasts, claimed by the Taliban, rocked the British Council offices in Kabul from the early hours of the morning, during a public holiday marking Afghanistan's independence from Britain in 1919.
Insurgents holed up in the compound, and troops from NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were called in to assist the operation.
The road leading up to the British Council was blocked by three large armored cars and two humvees, and Apache helicopters were seen flying overhead.

Islamic schools across Britain are reportedly teaching their students how to cut off thieves’ hands and that Jews are plotting to take over the world.
One textbook given to 15-year-old students outlines physical punishments for violating Shariah law, according to BBC.
“For thieves their hands will be cut off for a first offence, and their foot for a subsequent offence,” the book says.
Diagrams are given to teenagers detailing where the amputations should be made, The Telegraph reports.
Investigative TV show “Panorama” on BBC One will reportedly present evidence Wednesday night that the textbooks were uncovered at a network of 40 private schools that teach a Saudi Arabian national curriculum.
Textbooks claiming Jews were transformed into pigs and apes have been distributed to up to 5,000 students at weekend schools across England, according to The Telegraph. Another book for 6-year-olds says that people who don’t believe in Islam will suffer “hellfire” in death.

Islamic schools have introduced uniform policies which force girls to wear the burka or a full headscarf and veil known as the niqab.Maybe not in the quran but what about the Hadith, the sayings and doings of muhammed?
Moderate followers of Islam said yesterday that enforcement of the veil was a "dangerous precedent" and that children attending such schools were being "brainwashed". [...]
Dr Taj Hargey, an imam and chairman of the Muslim Educational Trust of Oxford, said: "This is very disturbing and sets a dangerous precedent.
"It means that Muslim children are being brainwashed into thinking they must segregate and separate themselves from mainstream society.

Britain issues travel warning to France and Germany due to terror threat
The British Foreign Office has issued a warning to British citizen who will be traveling to France or Germany over threats of a Mumbai style terrorist attack. The US State Department has also issued a warning.

Officers detained two men on September 15 and four more yesterday and all six were bailed pending further inquiries, Northumbria Police said.I wonder if the same police would arrest anyone for burning bibles or any other religious book for that matter.

In a recent lecture, he said he was “with” Osama Bin Laden over the attacks on “terrorist America”, adding that the 9/11 hijackings were an inside job by President George W Bush.

The British Foreign Ministry has published a list of 'don'ts' to help keep Britons out of Dubai jails. Some of the things that the Foreign Ministry is warning Britons from doing are:

Britons can find themselves facing charges relating to cultural differences, such as using bad language, rude gestures or public displays of affection.

U.S. and Afghan forces have now finished their deployment along the main road in and out of Marjah, leaving the Taliban no way out except across bleak, open desert — where they could easily be spotted.

British police chief says muslim community needs to do more to help tackle terrorism
Sir Norman Bettison, the head of West Yorkshire Police and who is also the Association of Chief Police Officer’s spokesman on preventing violent extremism, stated that the muslim community in Britain needs to take a more proactive approach in helping prevent and tackle terrorism. Telegraph
He said there was a fine line between winning the support of the Muslim community and alienating it, but he believed that Muslims needed to do more to tip off police.Back in WWII, Japanese Americans were under a lot of scrutiny and suspicion with regards to their loyalty. They proved their loyalty by serving in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team which became the most decorated unit in U.S. military history for its size and length of service. Whereas today, Western militaries are struggling to convince muslims to join and help fight terrorism.
"I'm looking for the community to work much more closely with the police in identifying young people that they have concerns about in terms of the people that they're mixing with, the sort of websites that they're going on to and the material that they're reading," Sir Norman said.
"That information can only come from the community itself."

The head of the Islam Channel, Britain’s most popular Muslim television station, has been arrested in South Africa and faces deportation to Tunisia over terrorism allegations.
The Times disclosed more than a year ago that Mohamed Ali Harrath, a Scotland Yard adviser against Islamic extremism, was wanted by Interpol because of his alleged activities in his homeland. His arrest on Sunday after a flight from London is being blamed by supporters on a security clampdown by the South African authorities in the run-up to this summer’s World Cup.[...]
Before fleeing his homeland, he co-founded the Tunisian Islamic Front, which Tunis accused of seeking to establish a Muslim state by armed revolutionary violence. Harrath insists that the organisation was a non-violent political party set up to oppose what he regarded as Tunisia’s one-party rule.
