Massive WWII Bomb Succesfully Defused in Germany

An Extreme evacuation, for a big bomb.

Foxnews
A massive British World War II-era bomb that triggered the evacuation of about half of the 107,000 residents of Germany's western city of Koblenz was successfully defused Sunday, authorities said.
It was one of Germany's biggest bomb-related evacuations since the war ended with some 2,500 police officers, firefighters and paramedics on duty across the city to secure the operation.
Experts successfully defused the British 1.8 ton bomb and a 275-pound U.S. bomb that had been discovered last month after the Rhine river's water level fell significantly due to a prolonged lack of rain, said Heiko Breitbarth, a spokesman for Koblenz's firefighters.

The Detroit Free Press
An engineering graduate from Michigan Technological University who blames the government for his father's death will appear in federal court in Marquette today on charges that he tried to blow up the McNamara Federal Building in Detroit.

Gary Mikulich, 42, of Kingsford, who allegedly claimed he was once the "nominated president of the United States," was arrested Thursday after federal agents linked him to a suspicious tool bag found Feb. 26 at the federal building.

According to the criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court, an FBI employee noticed the tool bag that had been abandoned outside the McNamara Building and reported it to building security.

For an unknown reason, security officers with Federal Protective Services kept the bag for more than three weeks. On March 18, a security officer ran the bag through an X-ray machine and noticed "wires, electrical components and dense masses," the complaint said.

Pakistan foils plot to bomb Western targets

Pakistan finally gets the upper hand on some suicide bombers before they carried out their plan .

(Reuters) - Pakistani police have foiled a plot to blow up a restaurant in Islamabad's diplomatic enclave that is frequented by foreigners, and government buildings, a police official said on Monday.

Militants tied to Qari Hussain, known as the Taliban's "mentor of suicide bombers," were arrested before they could attack the Serena Hotel and the French Club restaurant in the heavily guarded diplomatic zone, Bani Amin Khan, Islamabad's acting police chief, told a news conference.

Taliban insurgents have previously attacked Western targets in a bid to destabilize the U.S.-backed government of President Asif Ali Zardari, part of a violent campaign that has scared away foreign investors.

An alleged militant wearing a black hood stood up beside police officials and told the news conference that he helped carry out the suicide attacks on the U.N. World Food Programme and near Pakistan's Naval Complex in the capital city last year.

"I was part of the planning. I provided logistics and suicide jackets to the bombers and in return, the Taliban paid me," said the man, who said he was a former paramilitary soldier named Noor Jahan.

Police said they arrested two militants, Noor Jahan and a second man, Rehmat Gul, and seized a suicide jacket and pistol from their possession.

The said the militants had planned to carry out attacks on government buildings on March 23, Pakistan's National Day. The targets included courts and a telecommunications office.

Life is too nice , They should give idiots like this the Death Penalty .

the New York Times
The Afghan immigrant at the center of what the authorities described as one of the most serious threats to the United States since 9/11 pleaded guilty Monday to terrorism charges in what he said was a Qaeda plot to detonate a bomb in the New York subway.

The man, Najibullah Zazi, admitted that he came to New York last year near the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks to kill himself and others on the subway using a homemade bomb. He characterized the plot as a “martyrdom operation” that he was just days away from executing when he said he realized he was under government surveillance.

Mr. Zazi, 25, pleaded guilty in United States District Court in Brooklyn to charges that included conspiracies to use weapons of mass destruction and to commit murder in a foreign country, and to provide material support for a terrorist organization. Met Police search London flat in US plane attack probe

Yeah Detroit Again ! If the FBI is not investigating everyone and everything Islamic related to Detroit then We have a Problem .
Why is Detroit Consistently In the News when it comes to terrorists?
We have the largest mosque in north America , And the largest concentration of muslims in the U.S..
(It seems obvious why , But )
and now we have to go through even more screening at the Airports ( Good thing I drove home for Christmas ) .
I say profile ! Profile the hell out of Muslim passengers on planes ! Especially when they are coming into the States , it has not been Your average white American Bible thumping , redneck right wing , Gun toting Male , doing this shit all the time , every time it has been a Muslim ! (Or Radical Islamist If that makes you feel Better )
I don't know what else needs to Happen , for profiling to become the Best security screening measure implemented at all Airports !

....BBC
Police are conducting searches at a mansion block in London in connection with the inquiry into an attempted act of terrorism on a US passenger plane.

Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, a Nigerian being held after the flight to Detroit, is thought to have been a student at University College London.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the UK would take "whatever action was necessary" to protect passengers.

UK airport operator BAA said searches on flights to the US would increase.

Meanwhile, a statement on British Airway's website said Washington has revised its security arrangements for all travellers to the US and they would only be allowed one piece of hand luggage.

A BA spokesman said the directive meant US-bound passengers on all airlines would be subjected to additional screening.

"We apologise to passengers for any delays to their journeys. Safety and security are our top priorities and will not be compromised."

Remember Sabi - the bomb sniffing dog gone MIA in Afghanistan?

Sabi the miracle dog It looks like there's more to her story:

From the Daily Mail:

An Australian bomb-sniffing dog lost and then found in Afghanistan had been 'adopted' by a Taliban leader who tried to trade her for money. Sabi the black Labrador hit the headlines when she was discovered miraculously after going missing in action for 14 months. The dog's recovery was announced by the Australian Defence Force on November 11, the day Prime Minister Kevin Rudd visited Australian troops at their base in Tarin Kowt, in Oruzgan Province.

The story was that she was recovered by a U.S. special forces soldier called 'John', who retrieved her from an unnamed man in an unnamed part of north-eastern Oruzgan. 'John' was said to have thanked the man and shaken his hand, as the dog had obviously been well looked after.

But when tribal elders heard of Sabi's meeting with the Prime Minister, they started filling in some of the gaps.

They told Martine van Bijlert, a Kabul-based political analyst and former Dutch diplomat, that Sabi ended up in the hands of Mullah Hamdullah, a minor Taliban leader in Khas Oruzgan district. Hamdullah was very proud of the dog and showed her around everywhere, according to elders' accounts.

But the Australians wanted their dog back. When Hamdullah's father was arrested, they made it known that they would do a dad-for-dog swap. Hamdullah didn't think it was a fair trade and refused. Eventually the foreign troops let the older man go, while Sabi remained in Taliban hands.

When Hamdullah tired of the dog he sent a local elder to a nearby military base to do a dog-for-dollars deal. Since the Australians don't have a base in Khas Oruzgan, the negotiations appear to have been conducted with Americans.

Syria: 'Overinflated tire' takes out bus carrying Iranian pilgrims.

Syrian bus crash - some tire

It must have been some tire - that's all I can say.

The close-up footage provided by the same outlet showed the wrecked rear part of the yellow pullman, including the engine. The bus' windows were all blown out. ''A nearby wall was also damaged,'' said Sammur. A witness told al-Manar TV of Hezbollah that the windows of surrounding buildings were shattered by the blast. per ANSAmed.

From VOA

Witnesses in Syria's capital say a blast hit a bus that had been carrying Iranian Shi'ite pilgrims. Three people were killed and dozens of others wounded. The explosion coincided with a visit to Damascus by a top Iranian official.

The suburban Damascus blast took place near a major Shi'ite shrine, popular with both Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims. Interior Minister Said Mohammed Sammour said the explosion, at a gas station, was not a terrorist act.

Sammour said one of bus' tires was overinflated, leading to the explosion that destroyed the vehicle. He said two workers and the bus driver were killed.

Security officials have launched an investigation and have closed off the area to journalists. Independent confirmation of the cause of the blast is unlikely. Syrian state media lagged several hours behind regional media in mentioning the explosion.

Somalia: Cross dressing bomber kills 19 at graduation ceremony.

Students, doctors, government officials (including a Somali-American) and journalists all massacred in the name of the Religion of Peace.

From CNN:

A male suicide bomber dressed in women's clothing attacked a graduation ceremony in the Somali capital of Mogadishu Thursday, the Somali president said, according to a local journalist.

The African Union said 19 people were killed in the attack, which struck a ceremony being held at Hotel Shamo for Banadir University's medical school. The government said three government ministers lay among the dead, and journalists reported that two journalists were killed.

Nine students and two doctors also were killed, according to a professor at Banadir University.

At a news conference, Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed displayed what he said was the body of the bomber, according to a Radio Mogadishu journalist who was there. CNN is not naming the journalist for security reasons. (Dhimmitude in action.) The president blamed the Islamist group Al-Shabaab for the attack. The body the president displayed had a beard. The president also showed the remains of the suicide belt and shreds of a hijab -- a loose, dress-like garment -- at the news conference, according to the journalist.

The government named the three slain ministers as Education Minister Abdullahi Wayel, Health Minister Qamar Aden and Higher Education Minister Ibrahim Hassan Adow.

Adow, a Somali-American, served as the foreign secretary of the Islamic Courts Union when it held Mogadishu in 2006.

Sports Minister Suleman Olad Roble was hospitalized in critical condition, his relatives told local media. Initial reports after the bombing said Roble was killed in the blast.

The journalists killed were Mohamed Amiin Abdullah of Shabelle Media Network and freelance cameraman Hassan Ahmed Hagi, who worked closely with the network.

Meanwhile, the rest world leaders go, 'tsk-tsk-tsk' and issue boilerplate statements condemning the bombing and deploring the action. Yep, that'll do it all right.

Russian train bombing - 4 suspects now sought.

Suspects sought in Russian train bombing.

And can you believe one of them is a former Caucacus soldier who "defected to a group of Islamic terrorists"? (Paging Major Nidal Malik Hasan.) Hard to feature, I know. /s

Russian police investigators said Monday they had located the hideout of four persons suspected in the train bombing- derailment at the weekend which killed 26 persons and injured 100.

A police spokesman was cited by the Interfax agency as saying a hideout had been found in a village not far from the scene and that in an attic the traces of four suspects had been discovered. The hunt for the four was now underway with the help of phantom pictures, the spokesman said, in developments three days after the late-night derailment of the Nevsky Express train on the busy St. Petersburg-Moscow line.

Moscow media, citing investigators, reported that the chief suspect being sought was a former soldier from the northern Caucasus region who had defected to a group of Islamic terrorists.

More on those Islamic terrorists:

The business daily Kommersant cited an unidentified police source as saying authorities suspect the latest bombing involved the same criminal group linked to an almost identical attack on the same track in 2007. The 2007 attack injured dozens in the train that passed over an explosive device; the motive went unexplained.

Two suspects in the 2007 blast were detained but a third, Pavel Kosolapov, a former military officer believed to have links to Chechen separatists, remains a fugitive.

Russian train bombing composite <--- Recently released composite sketch.

Additional details - a woman is among the four suspects.

"According to preliminary information, four people lived in this house for some days before the attack. The DNA of four people has been found, one of which is the DNA of a woman. We have reason to think that these people are linked to the attack," the source said.

Bomb hits Pakistan military truck, up to 14 dead

Looks like things are heating up Pakistan ! A retaliation bombing here , A Military action there, And always involving civilians! What a great place to live! The AP

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A roadside bomb hit a Pakistan air force truck in a northwestern city Tuesday, killing as many as 14 people including a 5-year-old girl, as the military pounded insurgent positions in a nearby tribal region.

The blast hit the vehicle on a bridge on the outskirts of Peshawar, provincial police Chief Malik Naveed Khan said. The truck was traveling between the city and the nearby air force base in Badaber.
....

Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik said al-Qaida-linked militants were likely behind the attack. He said Pakistan had been taking action against Taliban militants, but did not say whether Tuesday's attack could be a response to recent military operations in the region.

"It is our firm resolve that we will root out terrorism from Pakistan, and all of our security agencies are working together to achieve this goal," he told The Associated Press.

The powerful explosion tore a large hole in the bridge, reducing the Mazda truck to a smoldering wreck. The site was littered with debris, blood and also the mangled wreckage of a motorcycle.

A crowd of bystanders gathered at the scene as victims were ferried away in ambulances. Firefighters hosed down the blackened carcass of the truck, and air force investigators gathered evidence.

An AP Television News cameraman at the scene said he saw at least 12 dead bodies and about a dozen wounded people. He said the victims included civilians.

There were varying accounts of the toll.

Provincial government spokesman Mian Iftikhar Hussain said 14 people were killed in all, mostly air force personnel, and more than 12 people were wounded.

Police chief Khan said 11 military personnel had died, but air force officials said they had yet to confirm that information.

Jehangir Khan, another police officer, said seven air force personnel and five civilians were killed in the bombing. Fourteen other people were injured, he said.

A 5-year-old girl in a nearby vehicle was among the dead, said Nisar Khan, a Peshawar police officer. He said police were trying to trace relatives of the girl.

A bomb disposal officer at the scene, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said it was planted under the bridge and contained between 66 and 88 pounds of explosives.

The bombing follows threats from Taliban militants that they would launch attacks on the government in retaliation for military operations in the northwestern region bordering Afghanistan.

It came as Pakistani army gunship helicopters shelled suspected militant positions early Tuesday in the Bajur tribal area, which has been wracked by fighting since last week.

The shelling struck a house in Takht village, about six miles south of Bajur's main town of Khar, killing five suspected militants and wounding three other people, a local intelligence official and a resident said.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Said Khan, a Takht resident, said the house was believed to be a gathering point for Taliban militants.

Officials have said at least 100 militants and nine paramilitary troops have been killed in the clashes so far, although independent confirmation of the toll has not been possible. Thousands of residents have reportedly fled the area.
