“Hi, I am Desire Fourie from sunny South Africa and am so thrilled to be a guest designer here – thanks for having me.
I used this cute image from Bugaboo called AVA SWING to play with and you can purchase it here. Of course 'S'wing is my interpretation of anything beginning with an 'S'.My design is a centre step card, my favourite card design. The sentiment is a from Create with TLC.  The image and sentiment were coloured with H2O water colour pencils and dry chalks.  The flower embellishments were created with flower and circle punches and the tutorial for it can be found here on my blog.  The design paper are from BasicGrey and the bling and photo turns from my stash.Your can read a bit more about my card over at my blog, DOING LIFE www.desiref.blogspot.com

Bettina said S is for Snail, and S is for Shaped card, also S is for Stars (S for stamps on the mail too)! Good one Bettina. The cute snail image is called Snail Mail.

....and a few more crafty makes from our fabulous Design Team!!

We would love to welcome a new 4 challenge team mate....

Stella is full of Sunshine and Snark!  Stella, along with her dogs (from left to right) Stenton, Stewart, and Steel are having a Sunshiny day...or are they?  Well, anyone who's anyone knows Stella, and Stella is no slouch!  She won't let you get away with S@*#...unless it's her dog's S@*#!  Obviously Someone did Something to Send Stella in to a Stellar S@*# fit!  I hope it wasn't you!!!

I love everything Stella, especially her Snarkiness!  Stella Tidbits - Ray of Sunshine is from Bugaboo, our generous sponsor for this challenge!  She was printed on Xpress Paper, colored with Copics, and fussy cut  I used Tim Holtz's Rays Layering Stencil and inked it with Mustard Seed Distress Ink to make the background.   A strip of green washi tape was added to the bottom.  The adorable Puppy brads are from Eyelet Outlet.

Monica

Hi, I read a beautiful quote: "Somewhere out there is a swing that misses you. You`re never to old for fun, swing, dance, sing, laugh and act silly"  and I love it. We always have to take some time for having fun.
For my project I used "Ava swing" in a gate fold card. The image was colored with Spectrum Noir, Prismacolor pencils and chalks.
Gemma - on sick leave

I went with the obvious... Sunflower.  I have decided to make a set of tags, one for each month to decorate my space and this image (Flower name - Sunflower) is the first to be used for this project.  More pictures and details on my blog.

Cazzy
This is such a fun challenge, I can find so many Bugaboo images beginning with S for a start, and this one is Sock Monkey Sitting. He is sitting on Happy Birthday also from Bugaboo, and I just realised S stands for Spotty ribbon - from Crafty Ribbons of course, and S stands for for Scallops.
This image is Clown Six, he is on a Shaped panel (with Scallops), and there is more of that Spotty Ribbon, and Sparkly Stickles glitter glue, and Spotty paper. Ribbons from Crafty Ribbons.

Doris - on sick leave too.

And lastly here's my card...I've used two digi's from Bugaboo. One I already had (Deacon Swing) and the other (Ava Swing) was supplied especially for the challenge! S for Swing...Stripes, shoes, a screw brad, string, silver, sunflowers, (well....they're yellow!) and.... the pale blue back ground behind the swings  (PinkPetticoat) has tiny stars on it. There's also some mock stitching, swirls, some stickles glitter and I've used silicone glue!

Over to you now! Don't forget, please add a link to your blog post (not your blog) or your online photo gallery, SCS etc. using the button below. To see who won the last challenge click HERE or scroll down to the next post.
Your entry must be a new creation, no back-dated entries (older than 10 days) allowed (yes we allow back dating!)and don't forget to mention in your post that you've entered a Quirky Craft Challenge!

DT inspiration post.

Hi Cazzy here!
I added this card to the main challenge post yesterday, but in case anyone missed it I thought I would post it again. The image is Ferald Sleepwalking from Squigglefly, so cute. The background is described in great detail on my blog, and slightly below, but it is my first attempt with the Gelli Plate.

Boxer by Enid Barnes is also from Squigglefly. I love Boxer dogs, they look so fierce but are daft dogs that melt and roll over when you speak to them! I was going to try another new technique but I had some of the Gelli Plate background left and decided it would be better to use that, and quicker! I made a square card, the square behind the dog on the card is a part of my ghost print (see my blog for details). The ribbon is from Crafty Ribbons.

The card, you can see the gorgeous Boxer dog better.

Found some doggy card to line the inside, adn cut a panel of kraft paper to write on.

When I looked at the offcuts I just had to make them into a tag bookmark, this can be used as a tag then a bookmark afterwards.

Lined inside to match the card.

The tag/bookmark is also free standing, it could be used as a card in it's own right. The dogs are slightly different colours, I might have to rectify that!

Squigglefly are providing second  prize of 3 images of the winner's choice.

Now for some inspiration to get you started:

Guest Designer Lynn

I used the Buttercup image from Squigglefly. The background is spray inks and stamping, I used the co-ordinating embossing folder from Stampin Up and did a letterpress technique. I put versamark clear ink over the raised part of the folder and embossed some card. I then used verdigris embossing powder and mica flakes and other embossing folders with glitter to created a mixed media background. The digi is coloured with fleximarkers and I roller over a SU script stamp in bundled sprayed with a mica ink again.

I used numerous types of material for this Art Page!  Aluminum foil, distress ink, modge poge, tissue paper, acrylic paint, scrap screen door screening, lol!  Check out my blog for detailed info on construction.  The images I used for this page is "Venus Has Arrived" by Squigglefly.  I immediately thought of a cool water scene when I saw it.

For my project I used this sexy digi "A corset and fish nets", provided by our sponsor Squigglefly.
This card is really a "mixed" of different mediums and techniques.
To the left side I used the faux leather technique, adding pieces of regular tape to a card stock, then distressing it and finally embossing it with clear embossing powder.
To the right I used two different techniques: In the upper corner I stamped with distress inks and gesso. In the lower corner, I used distress inks and sprinkle water for the background, then stamp with distress inks and a final touch with perfect pearls, to add a little bit of shimmer.
For the corner embellishments, I just embossed it with black embossing powder.

 Lyn
I used this little flower girl from Squigglyfly and had another go at playing with my only three colours of Cosmic Shimmer Mist, plus a dark blue metallic ink brush-pen that I flicked all over it as well as run a few marbles across it, so it made a nice splattery mess! I added this paper to a pink card that fades to white and then goes a darker pink, and made flowers out of what was left of the splattered paper. The digi has been 3D-ed and coloured with Promakers with a few highlights from the metallic ink brush-pen.

This is Princess Delightful from Digital Delights, she is a newly released image. I coloured her with Promarkers and Copic Spicas, then mounted her on a die cut panel which was a sheet of card that I used behind things I sprayed with various ink sprays, and it was covered in multi colours of spray. I didn't think it would look this good! The sentiment is also mounted on a piece of the sprayed card. I threaded ribbon throught the die cut, and added some fibre to the edge.

I should be back with two more projects - watch this space!

Here is the first one...
This image is called Ferald Sleepwalking from Squigglefly, I thought it was great fun and reminds me of my own sleepwalking haha. I finally got my Gelli Plate out and the background mess is the result - think I need more practice and paint colours! I added raffia, metal ribbon slider letters and some flat headed "eyelets".

Quirky Challenge #8 - Mixed Media Mayhem

Hi it's Gemma here, and it is my turn to set the challenge. (Actually I am not here, I had a shoulder operation and can't do a lot right now, so Cazzy is filling in the details, and I hope to be back to something like normal in a few weeks).

If you want to see who won the last challenge click HERE, or scroll down to the next post.

Now for my challenge - you all know I love mixed media, and I love to get messy and create magic out of the mayhem!  I want you to get messy too! Get your mediums out and have fun!

We are sponsored by three generous sponsors this time:

We would like to introduce a new sponsor to Quirky Crafts Challenges:

That Craft Place has a bricks and mortar shop in Eastbourne, and a Facebook shop where you can have a "pigeon hole" and add goodies to it all month, pay at the end of the month and get it all sent for one postage fee.
That Craft Place are providing our first prize of - a cherub stamp and a Clearly Sentimental baby stamp set both designed by Ditzie Designs and made in high quality polymer.

Squigglefly are providing second  prize of 3 images of the winner's choice.

Digital Delights are providing the third prize which is a $5 gift voucher.

Now for some inspiration to get you started:

First we have our Guest Designers

Lynn (Linby)

I've made a card with the dragonfly image - the background is made from cosmic shimmer glue very messy!

Birdhouse embossed with Spellbinder's Woodgrain/Brick folder, colored with Distress pads and sanded. Lace trim edging, square pearl trim. Heartfelt Creations daisy Flowers from Gelli dye ink print paper, shaped, rhinestone centers. Squigglefly Dragonfly From "Dragonfly Garden" digi image, printed and cut with an electronic cutter, colored pencils and glittered. Quote stamp from Quietfire Design as well as the Italic alphabet and the newest Illumination stamp set. More details and descriptions can be found HERE

Ike popped by to help us out and has used Simple Adorable Flower Girl by Cheryl Alger, one of the talented artists at Squigglefly. Thanks Ike, you're a star!

and the very Quirky Design Team:

Cazzy
I could see this Tall Ship on a canvas as soon as I saw it, and I don't know if it ended up magical but it sure was messy! I used alcohol inks on a small canvas that I had covered in gesso first, die cut masks for the clouds, then glass ball gel medium mixed with white acrylic for the surf, some charms, stamped seagulls and some sea shell ribbon to hang it up, voila!

Close up of my "masterpiece" haha!
I hope to add another project later ir tomorrow, there will be lots more next week too!

I started a new Mutimedia book to practice some techniques I have learned.  This book is 9x12 made of hard pressed watercolour paper.  I started with various watercolour based sprays and stencils to give some depth.  Then stamped some books along the bottom left and right.  The Stacked Owls image was just perfect for this page, at the top of the books on the right.  I used the tape transfer technique to place the image onto my page with clear gesso.  The final stencil was inked with dye ink and the quote is written in my own hand with a Sharpie.
This is my first one, and I used acrylic paints, distress ink, word transfers, flowers, wood, flourishes, stamps, and of course I used the Buttercup Suzie image from our sponsor. I printed the image in different papers, cut ad pasted it.

Gemma - hopes to be recovered and back soon! (I hope you will pop over to her blog and wish her well).

Never quite know what to do for 'mixed media' but I did leave my craft room in 'mayhem!' I used this lovely Shih Tsu digi from our sponsors and sprayed all the papers  and card with Comsmic Shimmer Mist, in pinks and blues, mainly because it's not too messy and we don't know how many puppies there'll be or if they'll be boys or girls! Last time she has six adorable puppies~ and that's also the name of the font I used. Adorable!

A closer look of the mix media background.

A closer look of this lovely digi provided by our sponsor Squigglefly

I`m a newbie at mix media technique.
For this challenge I have been seeing Youtube tutorials for about two weeks.
I messed up my first attempt, so finally I chose to used this technique to make the mosaic background of my card.
Here is my recipe:
First, I applied two Gesso coats to a piece of aluminun heavy foil. When it was dried, I embossed it with my favorite folder. Then I applied alcohol inks and let it run over the design, helping a little bit with a thin brush. When it was dried, I applied black dye ink all over the design.
Hope you like the final result :o)

We should have been saying goodbye to Cindy, but she has agreed to stay on to help out while Gemma and Doris recover, Thanks Cindy.
