Reminder for a Quirky Octopus's Garden (in the sea)

Here is your reminder everyone, you have until midday Saturday the 3rd August to join in. So lets see those sea creatures in their gardens!

The theme is An Octopus's Garden (in the sea) set by Daire, and there are three great prizes to be won.

Squigglefly will be offering three images or sets to our 1st place winner.

Paper Pretties will be offering six images to our 2nd place winner.

Robyn's Fetish will be offering three images to our 3rd place winner.

Here are some more examples from the team to inspire you!

This is my first ever centre step card, and I followed instructions from Split Coast Stampers to make it. I thought it was perfect for the octopus and other images from Squigglefly. I added some greenery to the garden with Martha Stewart punches.

Here's mine (I'm not late this time!) I've used some of  Squigglefly digital images. 3D-ed the main fishy and his umbrella. I've used paper-backed felt for the tiny leaves.

My first project is a LO. I found some pictures that I thought were very funny and appropriate to our theme. In this case I used images provided by our sponsor, Squiggleflywhich I painted with watercolor colored pencil. Also I added some additional details and placed on a paper background with octopus and jellyfish.

My second project is also a LO, for which I use photographs of a family trip. In this case, I used a background with lots octopus, on which I place the photos and I decorated with images of Paper Pretties, which I painted with watercolor pencil. I added some more details like flowers and buttons.
I want to tell you that starting next week, all my projects will have their step by step, for the convenience of each of you.

Please link your project up HERE.

Challenge 15 - An Octopus's Garden

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone (in the UK) is enjoying this uncharacteristic stretch of summer we're having... we don't usually get more than a week of sun!

If you would like to find out who won the last challenge click here.

It's my (Daire's) turn to set the challenge this week, and there's a theme (and a song) that's been bouncing around my brain for a while... Octopus's Garden by The Beatles. So this time I want your creations to be inspired by this song... it doesn't necessarily have to feature an octopus, but to be eligible for one of our prizes you must incorporate something from a garden and something from under the sea.

Here's a video of Octopus's Garden to get those juices flowing:

Now check out our great sponsors for this challenge, who are generously offering prizes to our top three entries:

Squigglefly will be offering three images or sets to our 1st place winner.

Paper Pretties will be offering six images to our 2nd place winner.

Robyn's Fetish will be offering three images to our 3rd place winner.

Are you ready for some inspiration? Look at these awesome creations from our Guest Designers and Design Team for some ideas:

Guest Designer - Leeann
Leanne used  Billingsley from Paper Pretties, look at the fishes on the backing paper, and bubbles paper too.

Guest Designer - Kali

I used the image Birthday Octopus from Squigglefly. I coloured the image with my Copics. I cut out the image and cut a frame for the image freehand. I chose a blue design paper for the background, because it remind me a bit of water. As decoration I used lace and rhinestones. I hope you like this card.

(We love it Kali - you've included two things we love here at Quirky Crafts, vibrant colour and yummy texture!)

Guest Designer - Marina
Marina used Bubble Fish from Squigglefly, we love the realistic bubbles! With the bubble backgrounds and the matching flowers and sign this is perfect for the challenge.

I started out this art journal page by copying out the lyrics to Octopus's Garden with a Sharpie, and then covering it in an acrylic wash. I then added another layer of paint, by sponging it over an octopus shaped mask. I coloured the 'Butterfly Blossoms' image from Paper Pretties with felt tips and gel pens, and added a few smudges of craft paint and gesso, to make my garden seem like it was under the water. Originally the butterfly was joined to the flowers, but I snipped him off and moved him, because I thought a butterfly flying around under the sea was appropriately whimsical. My final touches included a doodled border, and a sentiment borrowed from an old copy of Cosmo. I have something else planned for our reminder post, so make sure you head back over next Sunday!

Doris used images from Squigglefly to make her first card, on the front are Crabby and I think a made up octopus! The paper is like bubbles underwater too.

Inside the card a pop up garden with more Squigglefly images clearly having a great time in the garden with umbrellas and buckets and spades.

For her second card Doris has used Paper Pretties images, and added her own octopus tentacles. Ocean backing paper finishes off this frame card.

Cazzy
This card is made using images from Paper Pretties, I used Daisy (fish in bowl), Billingsley (diving duck), Butterfly Blossoms, Max Splasher (dive bombing dog) and Hani (parrot in treasure chest). Most of these come with several great sentiments, Best Fishes is one that comes with Daisy.
 Lyn
At last, I'm here too! I've used this lovely little fish from Squigglefly. The colouring was done on the computer and most of the background too. The backing paper I did myself. You'll find that and my card on my blog on a Tuesday post!!

Remember, we want to see both something from a garden and something from under the sea in your project, now go get quirky!

Challenge #14 Reminder - Daddy's takin me to the Zoo tomorrow, Zoo tomorrow, Zoo tomorrow, and we can stay all day!

I hope you are all having a great weekend, and here in the UK enjoying the heatwave! I find it too hot, oh for some cool air and a bit of rain to soak the parched garden!
I think a lot of people are enjoying the sun, or are just to hot to craft, we have some lovely entries but not many so I just wanted to remind you that you have until Saturday 20th July midday to enter this challenge, and I want to see lots of zoo projects, the more zoo animals the better and we have some lovely examples to inspire you with images from our lovely sponsors.

We have some great prizes from our two generous sponsors for this challenge.

 1st prize is from Bugaboo

2nd prize is from Doodle Dragon Studios

$10 worth of images.

3rd Prize from Bugaboo
2 Bugaboo images.

Here are some more examples from the team, which will be added to over the next couple of days!

Doris made a clever pop up stepped card using Doodle Dragon Studios images.

Monica
I made a bracket layered card, giving depth to it. I used the hippo from the Doodle Dragon Studios, 20 Zoo Collection, also working in layers and paper piecing. Mister Hippo is inviting us to go to the zoo.

Lyn

I've made a little Zoo Booklet using Bugaboo Images. Most of them have been 3D-ed. More pictures on my blog!

Cazzy - sorry I'm late!
My book is still not finished, I have the second page, which will feature Cedric and Daddy, with Daddy telling Cedric it is time to meet the other zoo animals, and the last page where Daddy tells Cedric it is time to go back home to bed. Unfortunately I have contracted cellulitis and am resting with my leg raised (doctor's orders) most of the day, and really shouldn't be on here now as I don't have a laptop!

Two of the new pages with Bugaboo images Tiger, Giraffe block, and chameleon of course. I love the giraffe one, I see Lyn does too with her lovely book inspired by mine!

The next two new pages, featuring Bugaboo Elephant topper and Zebra, and Chameleon of course!
All images are coloured with Promarkers, and adhered and sealed with Decopatch. I attached the pages with spotty ribbons from Crafty Ribbons, and now I have a whole load of back pages to decorate, maybe I should have gone for less pages and used back and front!

Wow! I'm so impressed with the gorgeous stuff everyone has been coming up with! I've been a bit swamped this week, but I needed to whip up a quick birthday card so here we go! It game me the opportunity to use the Elephant Topper from Bugaboo (which I love), here they're coloured with Prismacolours and outlined with a black pen (mostly to cover up the places where my cutting was a bit wonky! My background is made of strips of book paper, scrapbook paper and paper tape... extremely random, just like me. I also wanted to test out my new Sakura Stardust gel pens, so I added a few shimmery outlines. Get ready for a bit of extra quirkiness on Sunday, it's my turn to set the challenge!

Come back for some more great examples as the post gets updated in the next couple of days.

Challenge #14 2013 - Daddy's taking me to the zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow.....

Welcome to another Quirky Challenge! If you would like to see who won the last challenge click here or scroll down to the previous post.

It's my birthday today so I get to choose an extra challenge! Still on the theme of songs, this challenge is to interpret the song "Daddy's taking me to the zoo tomorrow" ..."we're going to the zoo zoo zoo, you can come too too too".

I want to see lots of zoo projects, the more zoo animals the better and we have some lovely examples to inspire you with images from our lovely sponsors.

We have some great prizes from our two generous sponsors for this challenge.

 1st prize is from Bugaboo

2nd prize is from Doodle Dragon Studios

$10 worth of images.

3rd Prize from Bugaboo
2 Bugaboo images.

Now for some wonderful inspiration from the Design Team, this will be the last challenge for Monica and Marg for now, they both joined us for two months (you can apply using the link on the page for 2 month GDT applications). We would all like to thank Monica and Marg for providing us with some wonderful contributions which I am sure have inspired you to join in. I hope you will visit their blogs and share some love.

I decided to make a story book for Kenny, and I only decided this last night! So today I have spent all my time (when awake) preparing this little book which is very much a work in progress (will have to print some words to cover my awful handwriting), and I will show you the rest soon! I used the Chameleon from Bugaboo, (I see that Daire likes him too, too, too), to star in my story about the zoo!

This is the inside of the front cover, and you see I have a lot of pages to go! I hope you will forgive me not getting further, as you read this I am sitting in a restaurant about to order my birthday meal, and had to stop to post this and get ready or there would have been nothing to see! (Lots more Bugaboo animals to follow).
I have completed the first two pages, and one more, and here they are, the image is Lion Topper from Bugaboo, and Chameleon. I am not sure if I need to add more words or an arrow at this point. Can you see the patch? I forgot to take my finger off the Decopatch covered page, ended up ripping a fingerprint size hole in it!

I'm not quite so skilled as the rest of our design team... so no fancy cards from me! Today I have another art journal page to share with you, using the Chameleon from Bugaboo. I tried something a bit different this time, instead of colouring the image in, I collaged scraps of painted paper to build this little guy. The background is one I've had in my sketchbook for a while... I made it from cleaning excess paint off stencils and brushes, and the colours just seemed to go perfectly with my chameleon, it's like they were meant to be! To finish the page off I outlined each element and added a simple border with a black sharpie... and there you go!

Today I want to share this stretch card for our new challenge. I used images from our sponsor  Doodle Dragon Studios. I enlarged the images and printed them according to the size of the card, then with watercolor pencil, I painted each of the images then cut them out and stuck them to the appropriate places. You can visit my blog for more images and details. (Note from Cazzy: I will be visiting to see how this wonderful card is made).

Fantastic card Doris! Here's my fold out 'zoo' I played with the images on the computer and rounded them all up and put them into cages!
    Marg

I used the Doodle Dragon images as their wild animal images are so right for this theme to go with the song title Daddy's Taking Us To The Zoo Tomorrow.
I coloured them with a mixture of Promarkers & Graph It pens, cut them out, including the cage (which was coloured with Sakura Silver Metallic pen). I cut out the scalloped oval yellow card with a spellbinder die & the music notes were cut with Dies to Die For die (I wrote the song title "Daddy's taking us to the Zoo tomorrow" in a Sakura Glitter pen) & the backing paper with paw prints on is from my own stash as is the sentiment..

I coloured the Bugaboo Zebra with my Promarkers & Sakura Glitter/Metallic pens. I used my Dies To Die For Music Notes cutting dies to make the notes in both pink & pastel green card. The green backing paper was embossed with my Provocraft embossing folder (leaves) added the wide white ribbon. The Zebra I decided, was going to be made into a musical carousel animal & that made the decision to colour the Zebra in pastel pink & a pale green. The pole the Zebra is stuck to is a plastic straw that I cut down (I don't have the cup that it went to anyway). The last item is the banner which has the title of the song that is this challenge: "Daddy's Taking Us To The Zoo Tomorrow"

I made a Zoo Shadow Box, showing the panda, the tiger, the ostrich ant the toucan from the Doodle Dragon Studios 20 Zoo Collection. To make these animals I used the paper piecing technique. I love the ostrich, it has a great personality.

Now lets see what you can do, lets see lots of going to the zoo!
