Challenge #13 Reminder - Everybody wants to be a Quirky cat!

It's a Quirky Reminder Time! You have until Saturday 6th July to enter our fun challenge based on the Aristocats and sponsored by:
We want you to take inspiration from the film The Aristocats, or the song Everybody wants to be a cat - see the post below for full details and links that will help you if you don't know the film or song.

Here are a few more examples from the team:

Monica

I made a square lever card with the "Too Kewl Cat" from Robyn Fetish. I used a large cello and some cat charms to embellish the card front. Inside the lever card you will find the logo "Everybody wants to be a cat"... don´t you????

I think my art journal page was heavily influenced by the cold and flu medicine I'm taking, because even I have to admit this is a little bit odd! I used 'I Taught It Was A Putie Cat' from Robyn's Fetish and dressed my birds up it kitty costumes. I used very few materials on this one... a few felt tips blended with water to give a washy effect, a couple of coloured pencils, and some scraps of painted paper from another project. What do you think? Quirky enough?
Marg has made this fabulous creation! Marg tells you how...
I used "I have a crush on you", coloured the cats with Promarkers, an antique white colouring pencil for the white cat (with a Warm Grey 1 from Promarkers for shading). I used a decorative tent fold ready made card for the base, (Ive had these in for months & this is the first time Ive used them). I downloaded the music from Google, leaving on the details of the gentlemen that wrote the words &music to the song "Everyone Wants To Be A Cat" from the Disney film The Aristocats. I added a small blue metallic bow tie for "Tom" and a pink metallic bow (in her hair) & collar for "Lady." I distressed the outer edges of the card, music & sentiment using a mixture of Scattered Straw & Bundled Sage from Tim Holtz range of Distress Inks. The coloured backing papers & sentiment are from my own stash. See my blog for more photos..

I'm sneaking in hoping no one notices I'm late! Here's my reminder card (I did do two last week!) I've used Forever Friends by our Sponsors Robyn's Fetish. I've 3D-ed the chicken, added freebie music paper, (Link on blog) some acetate, a cat button, peel off corners, some punched out cats and a couple of musical brads too!
Today is a day to remember our Challenge, Everybody wants to be a cat Cat. On this occasion, I work a Shadow Box, simulating a night in the forest, with small stars and a romantic couple of kittens. The image used is Pussycat Luv, courtesy of our sponsor Robyn's Fetish, and I worked with watercolor  pencil.

Challenge #13 2013 - Everybody wants to be a cat

Welcome back and here is your latest Quirky Cazzy challenge, I hope you will enjoy it!

If you would like to see who won last time please scroll down or click here.

We have two sponsors for this challenge
Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps And More is proud to sponsor this challenge.

Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps And More, a division of I Did It Creations, was created and
is owned by Robyn Weinrib.  Robyn offers a wonderful variety of digital stamps and digital papers,
designed to meet the needs of all digital paper crafting addicts for every occasion.

Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps And More is happy to award the winner their choice of 5 digital stamps and the 3rd place winner their choice of 3 digital stamps.

Digital Delights are providing a $5 voucher to the second place winner.

All images used by the team were kindly provided by Robyn's Fetish.

I don't know why this sprang into my mind - it happened when I browsed Robyn's Fetish for some images to use and saw some great cat images.

This song called Everybody wants to be a Cat is from the film The Aristocats (the link is to Wikipedia where there is a lot of useful information on the film and characters). You can interpret this however you like, and use either the song lyrics (see video and shortened version of the words below) or use something from the film to inspire you.

Everybody Wants to be a Cat by
Everybody wants to be a cat,
because a cat's the only cat
who knows where it's at.
Everybody's pickin' up on that feline beat,
'cause everything else is obsolete.
Now a square with a horn,
can make you wish you weren't born,
ever'time he plays;
and with a square in the act,
he can set music back
to the caveman days.
I've heard some corny birds who tried to sing,
but a cat's the only cat
who knows how to swing.
.............................................
Everybody wants to be a cat, (etc)
...................................................
while playin' jazz you always has a Welcome mat,
'cause everybody digs a swingin' cat.
Everybody digs a swingin' cat.

Here are some examples to inspire you:

This was not easy, many year´s since I have seen that movie!!
Thinking when they hid under the bridge…
A little about my card:  I drew the background and colored it with Tombows and Spectrum Noirs. I used the same pen on the images and cut cut them out so it feels a little like pop outs! I made a sentiment colored with “old Paper” added text written with a glitter pen, then added some notes and a little piano in black. Finally I used a corner punch and some flowers and leaves.

I have coloured the image with promarkers, the paper was a craft magazine freebie from last year, coloured cardstock from Papermill Direct, card candy from stash and used precious Hearts and Corner Bow Memory Box dies.
For my second card the grass paper is from Wrinklies CD-coloured cardstock from Papermill Direct the bird was cut from Graphic 45 Little Darlings paper, the bird cage was white but heat embossed in gold-the cat head and ball of wool recycled from an old card .
Carol said she was inspired by the song as I she has never seen the film, but has been owned by a few cats lol -Millie being the latest.

and from the Design Team:

Cazzy - will be along later (again).  (Always late, sez Lyn!) (cheeky mare sez Cazzy!)

I used "friends forever" and "I taught I saw a pudie cat" images from Robyn's Fetish, decided the cat looks like Thomas O'Mally the Alley Cat so gave him a bow tie, and the cats were rescued by hound dogs and made friends with a goose (okay I know it is a chicken but you can pretend it is a goose). Images coloured with Promarkers.

For this card I used ¨I Have a Crush on You¨ and ¨Snoozing Bob¨, from our sponsor Robyn's Fetish. What I did was trace the images, give them color, print and cut. I also added some other details.

Daire - can't be with us this week but will make up for it on the reminder post.

Lyn - is around somewhere (anyone seen Lyn?)
(((Wave)) I'm here! Now then, quick before Cazzy sees and swipes it away again (wot me??!! but where is the rooftop). I'm adding this card which I naughtily added a few weeks ago by mistake, with shouts of  "Wrong challenge Lyn!" from Cazzy, but it was only here for about thirty seconds (although it was on my blog, ssshhh!) A sleeping pussy cat (he is called "snoozin Bob) having a lazy day and dreaming of fish! I've 3D-ed the cat from Robyn's Fetish and added the sentiment via the computer. Another one coming up by me in a little while...( or an hour or two!)
Here's my second card, using 'Snoozin' Bob' who's been 3D-ed again. Coloured with Promarkers and Home made Promarker stripy paper, I've cut the card across and added acetate, black lace, brads and lots a mini punches!
I've used the Tookewlcat image from the Robyns Fetish images, and decided immediately that he should be sitting in the park, with a rainbow. I found all of the backing papers in my stash. To add some dimension I twisted two different colours of bakers twine and added that to the left hand edge of this Joy Fold card.  Please see my blog for more instructions and details about this card.

I made a 3d piano box and placed the "Pussy Cat Love" digi from Robyn Fetish, just over the piano keyboard, like the Aristocats playing all over the piano.

Winners of Fold It

Fold it was a very popular challenge, and so we had lots of lovely entries to look at and everybody got this challenge right, so well done! Some of the projects used folds and techniques I have never seen before, and I certainly learnt a lot!
Thank you all for sharing your lovely creations with us. As you can imagine, with 53 entries that were all really good to choose from, and with 6 of us independently choosing our favourites we really needed the voting system to come up with the top 3, and there were 3 clear winners out of the 16 finalists choosen by the team. (We all choose our top 6 and put them in order and give them points 6 to 1 and then add the points together and the three with the most win).

Fold it was sponsored by The Cutting Cafe who sell great value files of images as well as wonderful cutting files, and who provided the team with some lovely images to show you.

The team have chosen the following top three:

In first place is Wench with this amazing and pretty card which has lots of folds and a take out panel (this was a new one to me too). There are more photos on her blog and I highly recommend that you go and check them out, even the back of this card has a pocket for a tag.

Congratulations Wenche, you have won 3 sets of your choice from The Cutting Cafe.

In second place is Coops with this gorgeous vintage easel card.

Congratulations Coops you have won 2 sets of your choice from The Cutting Cafe.

Our third place winner is Gloria Shirr with the very classy and sassy side step card which is also decorated beautifully inside. Again there are more photos on Gloria's blog showing close ups of the details.

Congratulations Gloria you have won 1 set of your choice from The Cutting Cafe.

All of you please email me via the link in the sidebar and I will arrange for you to collect your prizes and customised winners badges of course. We would love you to join us as Guest Designers in a couple of weeks, or later if you can't do that, so please let me know if you can join us.

Don't forget to come back later to find out what the new challenge is.

Challenge #12 Halfway Reminder! Fold It!

Hi Quirky peoples! It's Lyn here again, to bring you a quick reminder about our latest Challenge here on Quirky Crafts! Fabulous entries so far, some makes with loads of folds and others with just two! Because as long as you Fold it, and there's more than one fold on your creation, we want to see it!! In fact the more folds the merrier!
 More Than One Fold!
Easy!
This fortnight we are sponsored by....

We here on the Design as well as our lovely guest designers have been using  Pirate and Bicycles themes all supplied by our sponsor The Cutting Cafe'. This is what we've done with them this week...

 Cazzy - here at last!
I made a joy fold card using images from Ahoy Matey and some freebie papers. Ribbons from Crafty Ribbons. Brass charms from stash.
With the bow undone you can see the ship.
The little pirate is a Kraftin Kimmie stamp. All other images and sentiments are from the Ahoy Matey set.
 Inside fully opened up.
The centre card flips up to reveal the greeting frame. Perfect for writing a greeting.

Monica
For the midway reminder, I made a napkin fold card.
Inside, I used the vintage looked bike from The Cuttings Cafe collection, Let`s Go for a Ride; and the sentiment "Enjoy the journey".
For this project, I used colors that are not part of my usual color palette, but I really like the final result.

 Lyn

Here's my little secret places seven fold booklet from last week, where you saw it inside it's little box. Each page has a secret place where you can add little tags, treasure maps, fridge magnets or even birthday money!

I made a step card with a bird cage. Also I used a vintage bike and I used the sentiment from our sponsor The Cutting Café'

Challenge #12 Fold It!

Hi Quirky peoples! It's Lyn here this week, trying to think of a challenge we haven't had for ages, so how about...
Fold It!
Yes, I want to see more than one fold on your creation, in fact the more folds the merrier! So that's easel cards, gate cards, those sliding swinging cards, Z cars, I mean, Z cards, or one of  those W thingamejig cards or even if you're feeling clever how about a carousel card! Pop back to Challenge 11  and see Monica's  fabulous carousel card. Or if you feel you can't manage that, try using double sided paper, and folding down a corner or two! And if you don't want to make a card? Well that's okay, just make sure whatever you make, has...
 More Than One Fold!
Easy!
This fortnight we are sponsored by....

Some of us have been given Pirate things to play with!! Yo ho ho!! (and a bottle of rum!) and some of us have had other things to play with, like...bikes! (there's a link somewhere...oh yes, they are all made by The Cutting Cafe'. This is what we've done with them.... First we have our Guest Designer...

Helen used Ahoy Matey for her great box card, Helen said she doesn't normally do cute! Didn't she do well!
(I love those skulls in the background!)

Well done Helen! That's fantastic!! And now on to the rest of the Design Team....
I used these adorable bikes rather than the pirates, to create this quirky mandala in my art journal. I used folded paper and dimensional paint to make it (quite literally) stand out from the page. There's only one problem... now I can't close my sketchbook without damaging my petals!

This time what I did was a Pirate invitation birthday party, using the file AHOY MATEY PRINTABLE SET.... courtesy of The Cutting Cafe'. I trace and cut the hats, enlarge the cross bones, I gave shade and dimension. Additional, I used a sweet sailor on the inside of the card

Monica
I made a box with a pull out photo strand with multiple folds. I called it My Pirate`s Treasure.
For the front I used the cross bones digi from The Cutting Cafe Collection, Ahoy Matey.

Inside, you will first find a warning: Beware, another digi from The Cutting Cafe collection. And then you will find My Pirate`s Treasure: my kids Sofi and Jota, wearing pirate´s costumes.

I used an effect on the pictures to give an older look.

It's a handbag invitation which consists of just 2 folds! On the inside I stuck a green backing paper that has smallish butterflies on it & then added the image from The Cutting Café called "Take a ride" then I added a tree with "rest stop" on the sign to the image. Lots more details and pictures on my blog.

I made a side step card which turned out better than these have before. I used Lets Go for a Ride images and sentiments.

To down view showing the star papers inside. I just need to add a panel to the back to write on now.

I made a box! (No you didn't you fibber!)Yes I did! I just didn't cut it out, it was a RAC gift. I inked all the folds with Vintage brown, then once I'd printed out all the bits and pieces, sentiments, digi's and backing papers I wanted to use, I inked them too. Added Key hole brad and key and other bits. Here's the back...

Now, if you take off  the band/sleeve that keeps it closed, it looks like this inside...
Filled with Golden Toffees!
Then I had another idea and ate the toffees and made a litte book instead...
and filled the book with little tags and more sentiments. There's room for small photo's later!
One of the tags is a fridge magnet. (which doesn't count in the challenge on it's own as it only has one fold, the ribbon loop, but make a loopy ribbon flower, and yay that would count!

Well, that's what we've done! So now it's your turn! Can't wait to see what you all come up with!!
