Mid way reminder - Quirky Supernatural Love Story

I thought I would remind you that there is just one week to enter our current challenge called Quirky Supernatural Love. We have some good entries so far, and don't forget this is not about traditional mushy love, it needs to be a bit different!

I've used one of my favourites from Nikki's Limited Runs, Mad Madison, with her axe... Just when I think there's nothing more I can do with her, I think of something else!  Her head and upper body and the axe head have been 3D-ed and I've added Glossy Accents to her eyes.

Cazzy

I used two Limited Runs characters on this card, the song by Josh Grogan keeps coming to mind Mermaid! The mermaid is painted with mica paints, the frog prince and butterfly are coloured with Promarkers. The sea and island are die cut with X Cut build a scene dies and the sun is an Accucut die. You can probably tell I didn't put the mini studio up, not such a good photo. I couldn't decide what to put as a sentiment on the top of the card .....

  eventually I decided to stamp Romance which is an Inkadinkado stamp from a clear set. I don't know if I will leave this or do something else, not totally happy.

  Spyder

  Thought I'd add this one again seeing I only slipped him into the challenge Thursday.

I've used three of Doodle Dragons images. The little devil cake has been 3D-ed

A Supernatural Love Story

Hi everyone! Welcome to the latest Quirky Crafts Challenge - to see the winners of our previous challenge scroll down to last post. This is my (Daire) first post, so I'm excited to see what you all come up with!


I secretly love love, so I couldn't let Valentine's Day slip by ignored... but at the same time, I don't love the heart, flowers and pink ruffles side of things so we're going to go a bit quirky... For this challenge I want you to create something on the theme of 'a supernatural love story'. You could make a card, an art journal page, a bookmark, a tapestry, a scrapbook page, a stained glass window, cake decorations or just a doodle. Let your imagination roam free!

So, let's see what our fabulous Guest Designer and Design Team have been up to...

Guest Designer Stempelomi (Beate)

Beate used Goober from Limited Runs and said:

I coloured the image with Copics and then cut out. The Spellbinder heart and background are embossed with craftconcept folders.The # 1 stamp from MFT is stamped on the heart before embossing.
The Gober doll is placed on the heart with dimensionals, decorated with buttons and is holding a banner with "1.Love". The punch alphabet is from Sizzix. The panel is mounted on a red distressed cardstock for contrast and attached with brads,than adhered on kraft cardstock.

For her second card Beate used two of Dustin's romantic dinosaurs from Doodle Dragon Studios. Beate said: I coloured the dinos with Copics and some stickles and cut them out.On the heart I complete the image with a sentiment.
The background scene is composite of 3 different cardstock.(white,dark grey,grey)
I glued the dark gray on the white card,then inked the white space with Distress inks and stamped the background images. I embossed the grey cs and stamped some grass on it then glued it on. Finally I adhere the dinos.

Daire

This is a Valentine's Card made using 'Goober' by Limited Runs. The background is made of strips of black and white photos and the image is coloured in using watercolours and Prismacolor pencils.

I used 'Coral' by Limited Runs on this art journal page. The background is made of numerous layers of paint, writing, doodles and prints to create an abstract seascape. For more information on how I created this, check out my blog.

Caro

I used one of the romantic dinosaurs from Doodle Dragon for a Valentine's Day card for my 5 year old who loves dinosaurs.  He didn't think it was fair that he made me a card and I hadn't made him one!  For this I layered various patterned papers, used a heart die cut, then stamped the freebie wings stamp from this months crafty stamper and cut them out to attach to the heart, then placed the dinosaur on top.  The sentiment was printed on my computer using a standard windows font. I finished the card off with gold peel offs.

My second entry was a tag for Alex's present and used another Doodle Dragon romantic dinosaur and a heart key both coloured in with promarkers.  I made the background to this tag using my new gelli plate with two diffferent layers of paint, and then stamped some extra hearts and the word 'love' on top.  I finished it off with a Tim Holtz reinforcer, heart brad and painted diecut heart which I doodled on for added impact.
 

Cazzy

I used these strange but cute love bugs from Doodle Dragon Studios to make a picture on a small canvas for my grandson's wall when he is here. I am not sure they are supernatural enough for the challenge though.

A supernatural love story on a card, using images from Limited Runs Sally Stitches and Gober, and a freebie sentiment also from Limited Runs which says Pucker up Lover, very funny! All imaged coloured with Promarkers or Trias and cut out by hand. Hearts are cut with Spellbinders  dies.

I have more work in progress - watch out for more to come! 

Doris 

I want to show yow my interpretation of the love for self, love which is not bad, but in the extreme can be sickly. For this I use from Limited Runs the digi Sally Stitches to make my birthday party invitation cards and this is the image I like most. I coloured it painting with watercolor matte pencils, I also use some phrases and embellishments. The base was cut from the studio cutting file. But, this is not all, you can visit my blog for more Supernatural ideas.

 This is what  I did with Nikki's 'Goober' from Limited Runs. First I 3D-ed him and then coloured him in different grey Promarkers and added him to a slightly misshaped piece of black card. Added some ribbon,  a beaded heart topper I've had forever and some punched out hearts too. All the papers are PinkPetticoat.  Link to the freebie font I used will be on my blog later. (Might be late as I'm not here!) Adding another card later in the week....

...and here it is. This time I've used three of Doodle Dragons fabulous images. The little devil cupcake has been 3D-ed and all the papers are by PinkPetticoat...back over to Daire....

Mid way Challenge Reminder - Life is a Quirky box of chocolates! (no digis allowed)

Just to remind everyone that our challenge runs until next Saturday 16th Feb midday, and with such great prizes you don't want to miss out!

Here are some more DT examples:

Doris

I decided to make a card with a vintage image I found. For this  I used different papers and card, trying those that suited the style and colors of the picture and theme. I used spellbinders, flowers, glitter, a wooden figure and a crystal flower which fasten with a pin, and a sentiment stamp provided to use by Crackerbox Palace .

I also made ​​a tag using two different textures of card in two different shades of cream. The base and top layers are edged and heat embossed several times with gold ink. The second layer is attached with foam pads to give it depth, Finally the images were stamped and heat embossed and coloured then attached, and finally I added some gems for sparkle.

Cazzy

This lovely silhouette stamp is called Sea Breeze and is available from Crackerbox Palace along with the sentiment. You could choose these stamps with your voucher if you are one of our winners!

Spyder

 

 Well, I haven't really got any girlie stamps of wind swept girls or vintage ladies, so I thought out of the box (I'd like to think!) What do we always have in the car when we're off on a long journey? Chocolate of course! So I've used an un-named Stamp from my stash. Then stamped 'Yummy' and 'The Chocolates' from our sponsor onto cream pearl card, covered in clear embossing power and heat set it, then used my new Keys embossing folder and the sentiment as seen from our sponsor. Couldn't make up my mind which way round to do the card, so I did them both.

Life is a quirky box of chocolates - no digi images allowed!

Hi Quirky Cazzy here and the team and I are really excited about this challenge for two reasons, one is that we have a GREAT new sponsor and the other is, because of the generosity of our new sponsor in providing all three prizes for this challenge, this is the first non digi challenge for a long time! I should say that we LOVE all of our digi sponsors to bits, we just like a bit of variety too and we just LOVE LOVE LOVE rubber stamps!

So here we go - the challenge is called:"Life is a quirky box of Chocolates" and here is what you have to do:

I want to see chocolates stamped, drawn, made of Fimo, die cut, punched, hand cut or maybe real chocolates on or in your project! Please note, stickers are not acceptable!

I also want you to use the colours chocolate and cream.

If you stamp your chocolates and sentiments we want to know the make and name of the stamp, with pictures of the stamp too please!
Tell us what you did, how you made your chocolates, so often when we visit there is not enough information.

These days it is hard to tell if images are a stamp or digital image, NO DIGITAL IMAGES ARE ALLOWED anywhere on your project for this challenge, so let us see those stamps if you can! This could be a great project for Valentine's day if you wish, or any other occasion.

Kate said "this is a POTP (punch around the page)

front card, layered with some of my very old papers and some Papermania papers.  Using Martha Stewart punches, ribbon from an old chocolate box, little pearls, nestie ribbon/banner die and lots of lush flowers dripped with platinum stickles."

Kate also told me that she got this gorgeous House Mouse card for just £2 on a well known auction site, I am jealous - I don't have this one!

Laine

Laine has made a gorgeous box for her real chocolates to go in, such a sweet gift! The stamps used are Magnolia Tilda  Ballet Shoes and a Clarity Feather stamp.

Lalkygirl

Lalkygirl (Tracey) made a gorgeous card and a matching chocolate box to hold real chocolates as you can see, and her stamps are by Stamping Up (SU), see below.

Caro

I made a birthday card for my Mother who adores Chocolate. I made the background by sponging tea bag distress ink over a piece of cream card, then stamping the chocolates and 'yummy' stamps from our sponsor over the top (again in tea bag distress ink to keep it pale) and finished the edges off with vintage photo distress ink. The main central panel was made by stamping a vintage lady (by Crafty Individuals), then masked her ands tamped the nutritional facts and yummy stamps from our sponsor in vintage photo distress inks, and then mounted it on two pieces of different shades of brown card added the gem and finished the whole card with the sentiment (again from our sponsor).

 Spyder

I've used all the stamps from our sponsor (some inside too) plus Jam Tilda from my stash. The card is 8x8, the papers are from My Minds Eye and The Mariposa glitter and foil paper stack. I've also added a beaded pin, die cuts, punched out flowers, ribbon and a shrink plastic ticket.

Daire

I created this art journal page using a bunch of watersoluble media for the background topped with the chocolate wrappers I found down the side of my bed *guilty face*. I used the 'When the going gets tough" stamp from Crackerbox Palace... I just love it, I'll definitely be using it in many future projects!

Cazzy

I used a Crackerbox Palace sentiment with a Stampers Anonymous silhouette stamp for this one. I already had the sentiment stamp, so this is one that I will be giving away to my favourite entry!

The cowboy stamp is from Crackerbox Palace and is called Riding Away, I thought it was great with the sentiment also from Crackerbox Palace, and again I had it already so will be giving one away!

I am working on another project that isn't quite finished, pop back later to see what it is and to see photos of my stamps!

My third make is a hanging heart cut with Spellbinders Shapeabilities, and on one side it says Love you more than ....... and on the other side are chocolates (love you more than chocolate - geddit?). Chocolates stamp and yummy word are Crackerbox Palace stamps, the chocolates are coloured with Promarkers and Trias, with Stickles and Anita glitter glues added, then covered in Anita's 3d gloss which I thought would make them look real. I added heart eyelet to each side and threaded through some Crafty Ribbons ribbon.
