Hurray for the weekend!

Yeah, it's the weekend!

It's been a crazy weather week.  We got a foot of snow on Thursday!

I feel bad for my husband who has to deal with the shoveling whenever we get snow!  It's a lot of work, but I do try to help where I can.

On the bright side, it sure makes for some pretty photos when the sun comes out!  What a sight, huh?

Well, I hope everyone had a Happy Valentine's Day and were treated well!  My hubby and I went out to eat last night.  Dinner and dessert was delicious, and the restaurant gave the ladies a beautiful red rose and small box of chocolates. Yum!

I wanted to share the silly card I made for my husband for V-Day.  We both love that commercial with the owls, makes us giggle every time we see it, so I wanted to create that into a card.  Here's what I made.

The male owl was found on Nate's ABCs cartridge, and the female owl on Kate's ABCs cartridge.  Isn't that a HOOT?!  I just trimmed the branch on the male owl to put them together nicely, and moved some leaves to fill in. The word bubbles are from My Creative Time.  So, what do you think?

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful weekend!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hello Friends
and
Happy Valentine's Day!

I'd like to share the card I made for my hubby, and I must say I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out!  I've probably only made 3 shaped cards in my 2 years of card making, so it was really fun putting this heart shaped card together.  I found it on the Cricut cartridge Life's a Party which I recently purchased.

I used a number of cartridges to make this card:
Life's a Party - Heart shaped card cut at 5"
(the card measures 5" x 6" wide so it fits nicely in a
5x7 envelope)
3 Birds on Parade - "Love Shack" cut at 1-1/2"
Chore Chart - Bird cage cut at 2-3/4"
(no shadow with this image, so I cut it by hand and embossed it with Swiss Dots)
Tie the Knot - Love birds cut at 1"
Heart flourish cut at 2-1/4"
Embossed the red heart background with Cuttlebug Geometric Rings
(I love this new embossing folder!)

I tied a small bow with twine to the bird cage, and added some dimensional heart stickers from
EK Success.
Aren't they just so sweet?!

Finished off the inside with a few more paper hearts, matching the one on the front.  Typed the sentiment on my computer and then used the Center Point feature to cut the white heart.  Couldn't resist using "Tweet-heart"!  But I did have to cover up the rest of my sentiment!

Hope you liked my card.  I appreciate your visit.  Thanks for stopping by.

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge - Anything Goes

For this Die Cuttin' Divas challenge, it's ANYTHING GOES!

I made my first Valentine's card, which started out with a 5 x 6-1/2" white pre-scored card.  I rounded the corners, then added a valentine print paper for my background.  The envelope image is cut from Doodlecharms at 3" with shadow.  I embossed the envelope with Swiss Dots and added a pink flap so I could stamp my sentiment.  Used some glittered pink cardstock for the heart.  The OXO is cut from the Sweethearts cart at 1-1/4".  I think it turned out pretty cute.  What do you think?

Our sponsor for this week's and next week's challenge is Zva Creations with a donation of some beautiful gems.

Valentiny Cards

I made these 3x3 Valentine cards for the Fantabulous Cricut challenge.  All the cuts are from Create a Critter, the bear is cut at 2-1/2", and the butterfly and cupcake are cut at 2-1/4". I used Elegant Edges to cut the background papers on the bear and cupcake card.  I'm also going to include these cards with the others I'm sending to Faith Abigail to donate to sick children in the hospital.

Hope you like them!  Thanks for stopping by!

Valentine's Cards for Kids

About a week ago, Faith Abigail Designs had a blog hop, and each blogger created a Valentine's Day card for a sick child.  Although the hop is over, you can still create a Valentine's card and link it to Faith's blog.  The link-up will remain open until February 7th at 12:00am. Then you should mail your card to the address provided at her blog. On February 10th, all of the cards will be collected and donated to a local children's hospital.

I wanted to make a few cards for the cause.  I started with this one which is an A2 card.  I cut the bug at 3" from Simply Charmed.  Used a PK stamp for the bug's face, and a stamp from My Pink Stamper Buggy Punnies.  Added a little ribbon and stamped the sentiment and hearts at the top, and here's a cute card!

I'm also entering this card into the following challenges:
Cardz TV Challenge #101 - make a Valentine Card
My Creative Time - make a Valentine Card

The following card was made with a pre-printed page from a scrap calendar my daughter bought me one year for Christmas.  I trimmed it, stamped it, and added hearts to the corners.  Simple!

I'd like to also enter this card into this challenge:

Hello Kitty!

Click here for the Die Cuttin' Divas
Challenge--Buttons, Bows, and/or Bling!

Here's a real cute card I made with the Hello Kitty Greetings cart.  I've only used this cart a few times and I rediscovered that it has some great shape cards on it.  This is one of them, and it was so easy to make.  From pg. 49, I cut <HK9> using the Card feature at 4".  Then I cut the Silhouette image, the hair bow and the heart at the same size. Easy Peasy!  Instead of using the cut-out dots for the nose and eyes, I used the reverse image and colored in the nose and eyes with an embossing marker, sprinkled clear powder on it and heated it.  You can't help but smile at this cutie (at least I can't!).  Thanks for your visit!

Isn't she just the sweetest thing?!

Die Cuttin' Divas Tuesday Challenge #49--Buttons, Bows, and/or Bling

This week's challenge at Die Cuttin' Divas is to use buttons, bows, and/or bling on your project.  You can use one or more of these items; but it's not required to use all three.

Die Cuttin' Divas is so pleased to be sponsored this week by My Craft Spot.  Kimberly has some great stamp sets, crinkle ribbon, and twine. Go check out her site. She is providing a set of stamps to the winner of this week's challenge.

I have to share a funny story about my card this week:
This card really morphed from one idea to the next.  My first idea was to make a heart by weaving ribbons together, and finishing it with lace trim.  I saw a sample of this technique in one of my books.  Before I started to do that, I changed my mind to just using the ribbons in a pattern, without weaving them, to cover the heart shape.  But I still tried to put the lace around it.  That didn't work too well, so I ripped took the lace off and decided not to add anything to the heart except for a pink heart shadow.  As I was going through this whole process, in my mind, I kept thinking that the challenge called for using "ribbon."  And oh boy, what a great card I had made using my red, pink and heart ribbon!  But the challenge actually called for "bows," not "ribbon."

Well, I didn't realize that until I went to share my card with the other DT members on our posting board. There I read the 3 items again:  buttons, bows, and/or bling.  It didn't say ribbon!  Now what?!  I dug through my stash and found the perfect red gem stringers that I put all around the card, and finished the corner off with a red heart on a paper clip. Now I have BLING!  Sorry for the long tale of woe...here's my final metamorphosis!!
This card is 5-1/2" square.  I rounded the bottom corners. Used design paper from K&Co. Valentine 12x12 stack (you can see it better on the inside pic). Embossed the shiny white card stock with the Heart Blocks Cuttlebug embossing folder. Used 3 different ribbons: red with scalloped edges, white lace on top of that, and the pink satin ribbon threaded through the lace (same one used on the heart).  Used 4 different ribbons on the heart.  I sprayed a piece of cardstock with spray adhesive to lay out my ribbon pattern, which worked really well for repositioning until I had the ribbons exactly as I wanted them.

I popped up 2 layers of pink heart shadows; I really like how that looks..

And here's the inside. The sentiment is a wooden $1.00 stamp from Michael's. Used some pink heart bling for the corners.

I'm going to also enter this card in the following challenges.

A Quick Little Valentine Card

This heart image with wings is from Hello Kitty.  I cut it at 2-1/2" and made the card size 3-3/4" x 4-1/4".  From my scraps, used a red and white plaid paper, and black with white dots to make the corners using an EK Success punch.  Added 3 black gems, popped up the image, stamped it up and voila! my first V-Day card!

A Valentine-Birthday Card for My Sister, and My Challenge Entry

My sister's birthday is tomorrow, on Valentine's Day!  So today, all of the family went out to dinner at a very nice restaurant to celebrate.  Great day.  Here's the card I made for her.

I'm also entering this into Karen's-Kakes-Krafts Challenge.  She has two (yes, two) great prizes to give away!  Here's the link to her site, so please check it out.  http://karens-kakes-krafts.blogspot.com/2011/02/challenge-time.html

I used a deep red cardstock to make this 5x7 card.  The rose background paper is from DCWV Love & Wedding 8x8 "scrapbook in a kit stack."  I cut the heart from Sweethearts cartridge at 4" (or maybe 3-3/4").  Well, first I printed the sentiment on white cardstock from my computer, and after several attempts, was able to fit the wording on the right hand side of the heart where I wanted it.  Originally I tried the "center point" function and it worked great, but I didn't want the sentiment in the middle, so I wound up tracing the heart around the sentiment and cutting it out by hand.  The reason this worked is because the heart is placed between a blackout base and the flourish that goes on top so all the edges are hidden.  I recently discovered this font, it's called Fiolex Girls.  I love it!

The cake is cut at 2" from Stretch Your Imagination.  The picture doesn't show this well, but the cake is actually pink on top, the middle is a metallic cream colored paper, and the plate is white.  I also used the cream colored paper as a border on the heart so it would contrast better on the rose paper.  Used ribbon for a finishing touch, and some gemstones.  Inside the card, I stamped the sentiment on pink cardstock, used a Fiskars corner punch with a heart design, and punched a few hearts from the same paper I used for the flourish (it was a scrap I had from Bo Bunny).

I was happy with the way it turned out.  Hope you like it, too!  Thanks for looking.

Cricut Cardz Challenge

I made this card for the Cricut Cardz Challenge #57.  The challenge for this week is to make a card using any cartridge or theme you'd like, BUT use the colors red, black and white ONLY!  The couple is from the Sweethearts cart and the ovals from Lacy Labels.  And the sentiment is actually a stamp - isnt't that something?!   Deadline to submit is Tuesday, January 18.  Maybe I'll get lucky and win!
