It's Another Bridal Shower!

I went to another bridal shower today.  This was for my cousin's daughter who is getting married in September.  You may recall that my niece got married on June 1 and her shower was in April, for which I had made some decorations. Click here to see that post.

Here's the card I made for this shower.  Her colors are navy blue and pink. I cut the umbrella from the Sweethearts cartridge at 4" with layers.  The embossing was done with one of the 5x7 folders from the Cuttlebug set, Once Upon a Princess.  Don't you just love those roses?

I also made a shadowbox using her shower invitation.  The bride is cut from the Sweethearts cart, both the image and the words. I used Kassie's Brocade embossing folder on the gown and Swiss Dots on the veil. Popped up the bride and a layer of the cherry blossoms on the invite, which I cut from another copy.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.  I really appreciate it!

Tags, Bags, Boxes and More 2

I am so excited to share the project I made using the new Tags, Bags, Boxes and More 2 cartridge.  I never had the first one, and when I saw that you could make a teacup with this one, well, I just had to have it!  My dear hubby bought me the cart for Mother's Day, and I just used it last night.  I'm really happy with how my project turned out.

Here's How I Made the Teacup

K&Co Watercolor Bouquet Designer Paper (must use 2-sided cardstock)
Cut the teacup at Fit to Page; it cut everything at 11-1/2"
(finished size is 3" H x 3-1/2" W for cup; w/saucer, 5" W)
Glued lace around the top of the teacup
Used a paper doily for the saucer; glued in place
Glued the cup to the saucer.
Tag punch and twine to hang sentiment.
Tied some teabags together with tulle
Lined cup with tulle (all of sudden, I'm loving tulle, and isn't that a funny word to say?!)

Some more photos from the beginning.

Top of saucer.

Bottom of saucer, I added an extra circle here.

Yes, there has to be a seam somewhere; at least it's in the back.

I'd love to know if you've had any experience using this cartridge and what you think about it.

* * * * * * *
I learned a lot about this cartridge in one night.  If you don't have it and are considering buying it, here's some things you should know.

The cartridge was designed to work with a Cricut scoring tip (didn't know what a scoring tip was until now!) and with Cricut gel pens, which draw anything you can cut and are specially designed for the Card Phrase feature on this cartridge.

Because everything on this cart can be made in 3-D, there's a lot of scoring to be done for the folds, including curved scores (like on the teacup).  That's where the scoring tip comes in, and I believe it would be VERY helpful to have. I didn't have one, but I scored all the folds with my stylus and ruler.

I watched a few videos on YouTube to learn how to incorporate the scoring tip. First, you cut your desired image.  When it's finished, do not remove your cutting mat, but rather push the "load" button to bring your mat back to the starting position.  Remove the cutting blade housing and insert the scoring tip housing.  Select the appropriate scoring by using the <shift> key, and then press "cut."  If your mat has not been moved, then the scoring appears to match up exactly with the cut.  And that, my friends, seems pretty amazing!

The "regular" cartridge handbook provides a recommended cutting size.  Images should be cut at that size or larger.

Along with the regular handbook, the cartridge also comes with a booklet of Assembly Instructions. This shows you how to assemble your project and provides the approximate assembled size.

I'm entering my project into the following challenge:
Crafty Cardmakers:  Anything but a Card, Tag or ATC.

Hope you've enjoyed my project for today.  Thanks so much for stopping by.  I appreciate all your comments!  And all my crafty friends!

Fancy Frames

Hi Everyone,

I bought the Fancy Frames cartridge a few weeks ago when it was on sale for $19.99 at Joann's!  I think this is one of what Cricut calls their project cartridges. My nephew's birthday is next week, and this picture of us was taken a few years back.  I've always liked it.  I thought he might like it too, so I made this frame to put it in.
The cart has 20 different frame styles on it, 6 mats, two frame backs (one landscape, one portrait) and an easel you can make to hold a frame.
Isn't the detail gorgeous?!  And this was actually one of the simple cuts, I would say.  As you can see, I used shimmer paper for the top layer.

You cut the frame based on the size of your photo, or you can use the real dial size function.  My photo was 4x6, but I cut the frame at 5-1/2" because I wanted the opening to crop the photo a bit.  That worked and both layers fit together nicely.  What was tricky to cut was the back of the frame with the stand.  I left the setting at 5-1/2" and it cut at exactly 5-1/2".  So I had to use the real size button and select 7" to have the frame back fit the frame "front" if you know what I mean.  If anyone else has had this same issue, please let me know what you did to make the two parts fit.  Thanks for stopping by!

I'm going to put this card at two linky parties:

Halloween Treats

Using the Art Philosophy cartridge, I made this bag to hold some candy to give to my husband for Halloween.  Just like any other kid, he likes his candy too! So I'll give this to him tomorrow night.
On one side, I drew the ghost free handed and fussy cut it .
On the other side, I stamped the sentiment on orange paper, cut it out with a punch and cut the scalloped mat from Create a Critter, pg 56.

The bag is cut from Art Philosophy, pg 23 at fit to page, which cut the bag at 6-1/4".  This bag is short but fat, deeper than a bag I've cut before, but I can't remember which cart it was from. Thanks for stopping by.

I want to enter this bag into the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge: a project with a ghost.

Birthday Gifts

I made the following for a girlfriend's birthday.  I gave her some crafting supplies which wouldn't all fit in the bag, so I just "wrapped" some of the items in the same paper and tied the package at the end with ribbon.
Here's a closeup of the card.

And of the bag
And here are the specifics:
A2 card from a pack of metallic orange cards that were on clearance at Joann's!! (love the metallic look and the cardstock is very thick).
The background mat is from DCWV Citrus matstack (as well as inside mat).
Solid colors from my cardstock stash; green patterned paper inside the glass and for label is Heidi Grace.
The martini glass is cut from Nifty Fifties (modified a bit); I call it an Appletini!  Label cut from Lacy Labels.
The ribbon came from a pack of self-adhesive birthday ribbons I've had for a while.
Stamps:  Cheers to You from the $1.00 bin at Michaels; Let's Party was given to me: Happy Birthday from Humorous Birthday set from Inkadinkadoo.
Added some bling!

The bag is cut from Making Memories pack of designer papers called Chloe's Closet (on clearance at Michael's!).  This cardstock is really thick and has a nice smooth finish on it, making the bag very sturdy. Cut the bag from Wrap It Up at "fit to page" which made it about 7-1/4" tall.  Cut the Happy Birthday label from Hello Kitty Greetings.

So what do you think?  I love all the colors together.  TFL!!  Appreciate all your comments.

Coordinating Purse and Card Set

I'm trying to link this project to Craft Junkie Too's Linky Party and when doing so, I lost my original post, so I apologize if some of you are seeing this again for a second time!  Click on the link above to check it out!

Here's a project I've been waiting to share, but I had to make sure the recipient had received it before I posted it.  Let me provide a little background first.  My girlfriend really loves Vera Bradley purses; she has MANY of them along with coordinating accessories.  Since I had the Forever Young cartridge, I was determined to make her a "mini" purse for her birthday.  So I cut the largest purse possible with my Expression, which turned out to be 6-1/4" tall with the handle.  The body of the purse is about 3" tall by 1" deep.  So I knew I could fit some 3x3 note cards inside the purse, and that's what I did.

I also made a silly birthday card for my friend, still going with the pocketbook theme.  Here's the card.

And I wrapped the pack of cards with ribbon that I found in the $1.00 ribbon bin at Michael's.  I couldn't believe when I saw it.  I knew it was perfect for this project.

How I made it:
Pocketbook from Forever Young cut at "Fit to Page" (page 70, it has no cutouts on the purse).  The lipstick, sunglasses, hat, and nail polish bottles also cut from Forever Young.
Layered different colored petals for a flower with some bling in the center
Flowered paper is K&Co Sparkly Sweet Specialty Paper, two-sided (I just love this paper)
Solid colors from my cardstock stash.
Mats for front of cards cut from Elegant Edges (flower pattern at 2-3/4"; solid cardstock at 2-1/4"); used the shift feature of 4 different base cuts:  Butterfly1 (p.30); Stamp (p.37); Bird2 (p.40); and Scallops (p.48).  Lined the inside of the card with matching solid cardstock too.
Stamped with clear rubber stamp sayings.

I was real pleased with how this set turned out.  Love to know what you think; appreciate all your comments.  TFL!

Gift Box and Card

A co-worker asked me to make a cake gift box and card so she could give her sister some jewelry she got her for her birthday.  Here's the set I made.

Cartridges:  Tie the Knot for cake box cut at 9-3/4"
Hello Kitty Greetings for the cupcake cut at 6"
Calligraphy for the "for you" lettering
Papers:        Basic Grey
Embellished with ribbon, flowers, bling and cupcake embossed with D'vine Swirls

I think it makes a nice set.  What do you think?

Bake Sale Blog Hop, Last Day

Well, I have really enjoyed being in this blog hop.  It was my first hop, and I've had a great time.  Thanks to Georgiana of Carson's Creations and Cheryl of Cards by CG for asking me to participate!  And to be included with all the other talented ladies.  I also want to thank everyone that has gone through our hop--I received so many nice comments from current followers and from new followers, too.  Thank you all for joining in the hop!!

For today's project, I used the Sweet Treats cartridge (which was actually loaned to me from a friend).  This cart is really cute:  provides cards, cupcake holders, and party favors to make for each design.  And I had fun using it.  I started out with a cupcake card that could be an invitation.  Then decided to try making the matching party favor.  This is so cute; probably because it's small.  The largest I could cut the favor was 3-3/4" high since that filled the length of the page.  So here's the set.
I've never made a party favor before, and the design included holes on each side of the favor "box", which I assume is for a handle.  There wasn't a handle included as a cut (at least not that I could see), so I put a ribbon in each hole and tied a knot.  There was a small "reinforcement" looking cut for the shift key of the party favor and I'm thinking it's made to go around the hole, so that's where I put it!  Has anyone else wondered about a handle and these little extras?  I'd like to know what you did.

I also tried making a cupcake holder.  Whenever I'm making something 3-D, I usually try "fit to page" because most times they don't cut very large.  But this did!  Actual size put together was 5" cubed.  I wound up cutting the top edge with decorative scissors since it was too tall.   Instead of a cupcake holder, I wound up with a candy or snack dish!  And it holds lots of snacks, too!

And since I was having so much fun, I decided to make one more card with a cake on it; the more sweets the merrier for this Bake Sale Blog Hop!  This was also from the Sweet Treats cartridge.

Well, as you know, I'm the last stop, so this ends the hop.  If you think you've missed any stops along the way, here's the full lineup.

Bake Sale Blog Hop

Hello All, now that the Blogger issues have passed, I hope you've been able to hop through with ease today.  I'm your last stop, but if you've come here by chance, you may want to start at the beginning with Georgiana at Carson's Creations.  Thanks to all that visited last night and for all your comments!  They're much appreciated.

My project for today is a cake box.  Using My Cut Search, I learned that there are only 3 Cricut cartridges that have a cake box cut:  Tags, Bags, Boxes, and Mores; Tie the Knot; and Wedding Solutions.  I had recently purchased Tie the Knot for $18.99 at a Joann's sale, so I was happy to learn I could make a cake box, so fitting for this Bake Sale Blog Hop!  Here's what I did:

Using paper from DCWV Green Tea Stack (1/2 w/foil), I used "Fit to Page" to cut the base box.  I wanted to see how large a box it would make.  It cut at 9-3/4."
Then I scored it using the tick marks to make the folds.  They're tiny so you have to look closely for them.  Very quickly, your paper starts to take shape.
Next I cut the box lid at 9-3/4".  I love the scalloped edges.

Then I scored, folded, and taped the lid.  I added some green ribbon from my stash around the lid, made a flower using the color scheme of the box, and cut a label from Lacy Labels at 3-1/4".  This cartridge is great for labels like this.  And voila, a cake box!

Oh, and I added a little bling to the label and flower--couldn't forget that!!

I have some blog candy to give away, so leave a comment on this post for a chance to win.  Posting on yesterday's and tomorrow's posts will give you extra chances to win.  You don’t have to be a follower, but I’d appreciate it if you were.  Make sure you leave a way for me to get in touch with you if you are the winner.  I will draw a name using random.org on Monday night, May 16.
My blog candy includes a set of “Party Invite” stamps by Stampendous, some “baking” stamps, Celebrate rub-ons, and of course, some bling!

If you think you missed anyone along the way, here’s the full line-up for the hop:
