Happy Aunt!

July was all about Christmas, so my aunt proposed that August be all about Aunts. Clearly she wants her quilt finished. I have to give her credit for being patient she first saw the fabrics I choose back in January. It was time to get this WIP finished.

This quilt took longer than I had expected because of a few hic-ups along the way. First off, this quilt started as a 5 by 5 arrangement but it was too small. I had to make up 11 more blocks to create a 6 by 6 arrangement. At the last minute I decided to go around the stars with some hand quilting. Yep, I sure do love my aunt!

Although this quilt has taken longer than expected, it came out better than I expected. The Star Pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew is hands down my favorite. I have done this pattern using multiple color schemes and it always comes out great.

Another quilt is officially off the WIP list ... only 12 more to go!

Star Mini

Anyone out there ever have huge elaborate grand plans? Like paper piecing a 100 stars into a bed size quilt, grand plan? Apparently, after 9 blocks in my grand plan had fizzled out. These blocks have been hanging around my sewing area for some time now. Ok, a few years, lets be honest. Since, there is absolutely no intentions of finishing the last 91 blocks I sewed them together with one inch sashing. Change of plans, but another project is now done! Thank you snow day sewing for allowing me some extra time to futz around :)

The center block here is my favorite! The top got quilted using quarter inch straight line stitches all over. It did takes some turns to visually add to the quilting.

The quilting took forever, so it probably won't become my new favorite, but it works out well for smaller quilts. Now I just need to decide where to hang this beauty! Has anyone else got to enjoy some snow day sewing?

Auntie's Star Quilt

My Aunt has been requesting a navy and white themed quilt for quite some time. She also loved my Patriotic Star quilt, so I thought a star quilt using navy and white. I am going to use the star block tutorial over at Cluck Cluck Sew. When the Lexington line by Moda came out last fall I bought some half yards to make this quilt. **Not all are Lexington, some fabrics are from my stash.

My Aunt is going to very happy to see this post, and know here demands are being meet.

Happy 14th of July

This patriotic quilt didn't get finished for the 4th, but was finished for the 14th! Ten days late, not too bad. I love how the sideboards were finished on this sugar "shack" so my friend and I did a little photobombing with my quilts. (It's her brother's camp so no illegal trespassing occurred!)

Next I need to make a plan to finish. None of my stash working for me as a backing, so I may have to go purchase something.  The top quilting is also undecided.  Oh the decisions, any suggestions?!?

Sew long for now,

P.S. Oops, I forgot to mention the source for this pattern.  Check out the tutorial at Cluck Cluck Sew.
