having a play

I had an email yesterday from Jessica Sprague with a free Photoshop Friday class, to fill type with patterned paper. I fancied having a go so spent a pleasant 20mins or so making a layout. Very slowly I am starting to remember how to do this. The one thing I couldn't do was make the journalling fit the lines, I'm going to have to find a class on that.

a few more cards

DSC00789

DSC00792

Still need to make a few cards? Then I can recommend http://www.clearlybesottedstamps.com/ for inspiration. Stephanie Wincott has some beautiful cards using their stamps and dies and I spent a pleasant few hours making several. I think I’m all done now so it’s back to my ripple blanket and a Christmas film for me.

Only 10 weeks!!

DSC00620

I was told today it was only about 10 weeks until Christmas, scary thought. So I thought it was about time I started to make a few cards, after all I don’t want that usual last minute panic.

A Christmas Sparkle and Sweet Little Sentiments stamp set left by my daughter to encourage me to stop being so lazy were opened up and after a lot of huffing and puffing, mainly because I stamped the tree upside down to start with, these three cards were made. I like the simplicity of the design found on the Clearly Besotted website and can see me making more cards using this little tree.

Six cards on the 6th

SDC17678

As it is only 9 weeks until Christmas I thought I would have a go at making some simple cards which will be easy to post. A set of stamps from My Mind’s Eye, ink pads and even a very dusty heat gun were found and I soon had six cards made.

I’m entering these for the six cards on the 6th challenge over on S J Crafts here

Happy New Year

Christmas is over for another year, it’s been a busy but happy one here.

SDC16309

One nasty person bought us all a game where the person with the slowest reaction received an electric shock, needless to say I only played it once!

One little girl was well and truly spoilt.

the food was enjoyed by all, I hope!

We were able to get out for walk

and we survived our poor little house being taken over for a few days.

A few tears have been shed as the family return to their homes and we get used to the quiet again.

I hope you all had a lovely time.

Christmas is coming!

I thought it was time to accept the fact that Christmas is just around the corner and start  making some cards.

side-tracked, don’t read this Peter!

Busy searching for Christmas photos to put on my digital frame, I came upon these shots of Peter. He really loved Star Wars and we just had to buy him the Ewok village for Christmas and Millennium Falcon for his birthday one year even though they were very expensive and we had a tight budget.  It was money well spent though as the toys have been well used, even by our grandson, I don’t think I will ever part with them, they bring back such happy memories.

But moving on to this year what does Peter, now in his thirties, want for Christmas ? - The latest Star Wars game due out very near Christmas  of course and who do you think will be rushing out to buy it? Yes, you guessed it, Mummy, some things never change!

Christmas cards

Christmas cards, somehow no matter how early I start, I’m always in a panic, making them right up to Christmas Eve. This year will be different however, I will have them all made before December (who am I kidding!)

I always like to see what Kristina Werner comes up with when she starts her holiday cards series, so it was a pleasant surprise when I saw it had started this week here

SDC13482

So this is my card following her day 4 video. That’s the first one finished and it only took me all morning!

We had very strong winds during the night so I was glad to see some of my flowers had survived.

To answer a question from Alison about yesterday’s post, I plan to put my snowflakes on my wrapped presents with a handmade tag, then they can be put on the Christmas tree if my friends and family wish to. They are very easy to do, you can find the pattern and much better photos here

Let it snow!

SDC11215

The weather might be freezing and snow on the way but I’ve been nice and cosy by the fire making these snowmen!

The pattern was from Simply Knitting, Irresistible Christmas gifts to make and when I saw this little trio I had to make them.

After feeling very low and let down by folk, I’ve decided to put a smile on my face, not quite so scary as my snowmen I hope and start enjoying the festive season.

just like Daddy!

SDC11109

Becca took part in a race on Saturday and did very well, here she is with her medal.

SDC11103 and there she is well up the field, not bad for one of the youngest there.

SDC11113

I've been trying to to do some more of my Christmas cards, I'm so glad I managed to do a few earlier on in the year as just this one card seemed to take me all day!

I thought I would have a look at this challenge again and have a go at making a reindeer card. In the spirit of Shimelle's class I used up some old papers, brads and flowers from my stash.

Snow

snow 002 snow 001 Like a lot of the country we have had several days of this white stuff. I have hardly left the house so can enjoy it from the warmth of my lounge.
sausage rolls 001 Winnie has been the same, hardly left the house and the warmth of the fire.
I’ve been busy today with more cooking, have made a pavlova and a tunis cake, just need to ice it. I’m not sure what it will taste like but I’m glad I had a go.

Christmas is coming!

dec 1 054-1 It’s the first of December and I’m looking forward to Christmas.
The first prompt from Jessica Sprague was to journal your earliest Christmas memory.
Looking back over 50 years I have many happy memories and a few not so happy ones. The one thing that does stick out in my memory was my Talkative Jane doll. One September I saw this doll in the newspaper, a doll that could talk, it seemed like magic to me. I can remember thinking of it often over the next few months, I so wanted it. Christmas Eve arrived and I went to bed early with my pillowcase at the end of my bed. I can remember listening out for sleigh bells, a sure sign Father Christmas was on his way, would I get my doll?
Very early the next morning I awoke to a bulging pillowcase and yes, amongst my presents was Talkative Jane, bliss!!

Ian and I went for an early morning walk today and I took these photos, the sea was very wild. We love our walks even in the winter. Each season is special, I love the fact that we can wrap up warm and enjoy the beach and then come home to a cup of coffee and perhaps, if I’m feeling naughty, a chocolate!
I hope anyone looking at my blog has good memories to think about today.
