love letters

This year we will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and I must be feeling a bit sentimental, something that doesn’t happen very often.

It’s Storytelling Sunday again over on Sian’s blog and time to “pick my precious”

SDC16375

I have a few letters from my husband that I would hate to lose, they are very precious to me. There are also a couple that I sent to him that are far from romantic, he does that sort of thing much better than me.

My first letter was sent the day after I agreed to go on a date with him, it’s dated 19.4.71. It has a lovely poem in it, a great improvement on the cheeky one he’d originally said to me. You can read about that here

You can keep all your expensive gifts although lovely to receive, the few words on these pieces of paper mean so much more.

To read more stories do go over to Sian’s blog here

Oh how wonderful. And April 19 is a love-ly day in my history also, although hubby never wrote me any love letters.

How wonderful that you have the letters! Robbie & I met online & I printed out original emails & messages - maybe I'll share a little about that for one Storytelling Sunday. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely - give me a handwritten letter or a handmade gift any day. Hands down a million times better than something shop bought.

I've never been a letter saver but I wish I had saved at least one of the letters my husband sent when he was in the army. A handwritten letter is certainly a precious thing. Thanks for sharing.

Oh how lovely that you still have them - Wookie & I have had to discuss if emails count as love letters, but I do cherish the couple of handwritten bits I have from him too. Happy Anniversary - 40 is amazing :)

Congrats on your 40th year of marriage. I agree, there is nothing like the written word which you know had thought put into it. It makes it so much more special

How lovely to still have them. I've got shoe boxes full of old letters, but not one from my husband, which is a shame. He's not really a writer.

So right you are! This will be our 40th wedding anniversary as well, but although my husband gave me cute cards and notes, I don't think I've ever gotten a letter from him.

I have a large file box filled with the letters which my husband and I exchanged during the three years we were apart during graduate school. Thanks for reminding me that these are "precious."
