I’ve been absent for a few days looking after my mum who has been very ill. My sister and I are taking it it turns to go home and have a break as it can be very tiring!!
The one thing I did want to do however while I am back home was my Storytelling Sunday post as it’s something I really enjoy doing. This year Sian has suggested picking something precious to you and telling the story behind it.
I’ve been told I’m like a mother hen, never happier than when I can gather my children under my wings, so you can appreciate how hard I found it when my eldest decided to go to university, the first one to leave the fold. My husband bought me this little bear, he’s called Dave, to keep as a reminder of our son
and so with tears in my eyes and instructions on how to survive without mummy to look after him, I watched him drive away, but as he said
“ Mum, it’s about time I left home and I will be able to manage, after all I am 25yrs!!!”
Do go and read more stories over on Sian’s blog here

Jane, I'm sorry to hear about your Mum first of all..
..and delighted that you are back storytelling with us again in 2013. Your "precious" really resonated with me - we are in the middle of university applications at the minute and I'm very aware of the changes to come in the next year.
It is hard to let go but something we must do.
Thinking of you - hugs.
I have a few Cherished teds - one from an ex students and I won't let it go x
That was so very sweet of your husband. I feel your pain. My oldest is getting ready to go off to college this fall. I am already getting teary eyed when I think of her off on her own. Hugs.
I am not looking forward to that stage in my kids life :-) I think that it was wonderful for your husband to do that for you :-)
What a sweet little bear (and a sweet hubby!!). So sorry about your Mum. :(
Hope your mum's improving, Jane....love the story!
Alison xx
Oh I hope your Mum is improving - always a worry when people aren't well. I'm another in the middle of university applications and aware of how things will change this year. Dave is sweet - looking happy to be driving away or is it back? :)
