Christmas cards

Christmas cards, somehow no matter how early I start, I’m always in a panic, making them right up to Christmas Eve. This year will be different however, I will have them all made before December (who am I kidding!)

I always like to see what Kristina Werner comes up with when she starts her holiday cards series, so it was a pleasant surprise when I saw it had started this week here

So this is my card following her day 4 video. That’s the first one finished and it only took me all morning!

We had very strong winds during the night so I was glad to see some of my flowers had survived.

To answer a question from Alison about yesterday’s post, I plan to put my snowflakes on my wrapped presents with a handmade tag, then they can be put on the Christmas tree if my friends and family wish to. They are very easy to do, you can find the pattern and much better photos here

We’ve been busy sorting out and throwing away old toys, games, videos etc. I’m getting rid of all my Buffy and Poldark and trying to get Ian to part with some of his old series. Some things have too many happy memories however and top of the list are these old Star Wars figures, I don’t think my boys would ever forgive me if they went to the dump!

I have had time for a little play as I couldn’t resist this cluster Dawn Inskip gave away free on UKS.

Tea Party

Picture the scene, me as a very young mum sitting in my mother’s posh friend’s house. My eldest, then aged about 3yrs was starting to get restless. He wondered about leaving me very much on edge.

“Stop worrying my dear, there’s nothing he can damage, relax and have your cup of tea” said posh friend.

As I sat, politely listening to mum and “aunty” talking I suddenly began to smell something, it smelt a bit like paraffin, the smell got stronger and stronger.

“Excuse me a moment, I’ll just go and see what David is up to” I said as a feeling of panic overcame me.

I walked quickly through the kitchen to where my little darling was playing. A big can of paraffin, with a little tap was in the room. David had turned it on and the paraffin had spread over the carpet. Trying to disguise this or perhaps soak it up, he had then tipped some compost over the wet, smelly patch and then to finish things off had decided to hide it all. Looking around he saw a coat hanging up, just back from the cleaners and yes, that was pulled off the hanger and spread over the mess.

I was chatting to David on the phone this week and he could remember all of this, he thought he was having a tea party. When I asked him if he remembered my reaction he said

“yep, I think  you were a bit miffed”!
