Scarf #2

I finished scarf #2, I stayed up late(for me anyway)tonight so that I could have it done before the end of this year, my goal was the end of the week, so bonus points for me! I made this one for myself, it's my birthday present, I just get to have it a little early!

Happy Birthday to ME...

After the new year I am starting on my mom's scarf, I hope to have hers finished quicker than I had mine finished, my scarf took a little longer than I wanted it to...
4 month old baby + knitting = SLOW PROGRESS!!
This is the yarn I am using for mom's scarf, it is such a pretty color yellow(it's hard to tell in this picture), and the texture of it is just so soft and snuggley!

Ragan did some crafting tonight too...

She got a Weaving Loom for Christmas and she is making pot holders for the whole family. She had a little trouble finishing it off, but it is still beautiful!!!

Have a great New Year's Eve and be safe! 2010 is just around the corner reminding me of all the goals that I want to reach...

Let It Snow!

I woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of snow on the ground. After trying to convince my husband to work from home(I didn't win), I put my roast and potatoes in the crock pot, put on my slippers, grabbed my camera and took some pictures. My neighbor was shoveling his driveway and I am sure thinking to himself, "What in the heck is she doing outside in her jammies?" To most people snow is a bother, but for me it is quite relaxing(but I don't have to drive in it). There is something about winter that makes me feel good, maybe it is because I was born in a snow storm and every year on my birthday it always seemed to snow so much that only a couple of my friends who lived in town could come, that never really bothered me. The snow is so calming, almost serene. I always hated it when someone would walk on a fresh blanket of snow, it's like they messed up this perfect layer of powdery goodness that was meant just for me. I know I sound nuts, but that's how I feel!

My kids on the other hand, just want to go outside and play in it until they can't feel their hands and feet. I am a watcher when it comes to that anymore, the older I have gotten to faster I get cold. I remember when I could stay outside and play in the snow all day! The kids are on their Christmas break from school and I am sure that they are getting a bit of cabin fever, not me I don't mind it one bit, staying inside snuggled up with my family and watching movies and knitting, it kind of makes me feel like we are the only ones who exist and sometimes that's what you need to make your appreciate your family and the time that you get to spend with them!

So I say...Let it snow!

Here are the photos I snapped this morning...

I am sure that I will be seeing allot of this over the next couple of days...

I took this picture last night, this is what Nash and Gabe do in the evenings, play the Nintendo DS. I can't complain, it's quality father and son time!

Goals for 2010 (Personal and Creative)!

Today I was inspired to write down my goals for 2010, the amazing lady behind my inspiration goes by the name Christina, from one of my favorite blogs, The Sometimes Crafter. She made a very good point, don't make New Year's resolutions, you are likely to break those, instead make goals or just a list that you can cross off as you achieve something that is on it. "If you don’t succeed 100% in everything, that is okay, at least you know that you set some “goals” for yourself for the coming year."

Well, here is what I have come up with, I did write them down on a piece of paper for myself to look at everyday, but if I share them with you then maybe you can help me achieve my goals and cross them off my list!

2010 Goals(Personal and Creative):

1~Be a better Christian, HE did create and die for me, the least I can do for HIM is attend church every Sunday with no excuses!

2~Be more patient with my children, they are only little once and as long as they aren't doing anything immoral or illegal then I should just take in all of their unique personalities!

3~Have more confidence in myself, physically, emotionally and creatively.

4~Finish what I start and don't get discouraged.

5~Don't let new things intimidate me, I will always be bigger than what it is that I am doing.

6~Learn different knitting styles, Pearl stitch, Cable, etc... make something other than a scarf, maybe an afghan!

7~Continue using my sewing machine at least twice a week, even if I am just practicing.

8~Buy or make only handmade gifts for me, my family and friends, I found out they mean a little more to the person that you gave it to!

9~Lose my baby weight, even though I still need to lose some of my "baby" weight from when I had Nash(5 years ago)!

10~Be able to confidently change the name of my blog subtitle to "The Adventures of a Crafty Mom"!

11~Create something so well that I can feel confident opening my own Etsy Shop!!! <<<-----This one would be awesome!!!

Well there they are, no changing them now! Thanks to all of you in blogland that has helped encourage me to do some of these things and your continued support as I get to cross them off my list! 2010, here I come!

A Yarn and Flea Market Monday...

Today my oldest daughter and I went to the neighboring town to do a little shopping, we went to my now favorite shop, Sprouts Yarn and picked up a few more skeins of yarn to make a scarf for my hubby and my mom. I also picked up a new set of knitting needles, a size larger than the ones that I already own and instead of Bamboo, which is what I was taught with, they are nickel plated brass needles. The lady showed me how much easier they were to use by letting me knit a little on the baby blanket she was making for a friend, oh, I can't wait to use them!

Here is the yarn I picked up, the charcoal grey is for my hubby and the yellow is for mom...

After the yarn shop we went over to the flea market to do some browsing. I think that we went in circles, this place is huge, almost too big to really find anything unless you have all day to spend there, and we had to get back home to get the rest of the family and head to my in-laws for our Christmas with them.

But I did get this...

A little jar full of vintage buttons, I am sure that I can figure out something to do with these tiny gems, if not they make a cute decoration for my sewing room!

Here is what my wonderful mom-in-law gave me while we were there for our Christmas...

Some embroidery hoops and floss that she had tucked away in her sewing room that were her Grandmothers. I am so lucky to have a mother-in-law that I not only love, but also has so much talent, I swear she can turn an old shower curtain into a beautiful dress for all of her granddaughters, and yes she has done that! It is nice to have someone who can show me a few things and then "let go of the bike" so to speak, after she thinks I have got it figured out. She is coming over tomorrow and showing me how to use my 1959 sewing machine, that I find quite intimidating! God Bless her!

Well, that's just about it for the day, my husband is making fun of me and saying that I am addicted to blogging, so I should get off of here and spend some time with him, even if it is watching Monday Night Football!!! The things you do for the person you love I tell ya!

xoxo~Meg

P.S. This picture really has nothing to do with what I wrote about, but it was too cute not to share with you all!

My Sunday...

Today we spent the day reclaiming our house from the Christmas decorations, I think it took us longer to put the away then it did to put them up! The house looks bigger now without our trees and garland hanging from the lights. They are all tucked away in the closet ready to come out again next year, although Christmas isn't quite over for my family yet. Tomorrow afternoon we are going to my in-laws to exchange gifts and then next weekend it's Christmas with my dad and step-mom. I don't think that my kids are tired of Christmas yet, they know that they have a couple more to go and I think that they are pretty excited about that.

Tomorrow I am going to use some of my Christmas money and buy some more yarn and larger size needles and then maybe stop in and browse around the Flea Market to look for some vintage goodies! I really don't know why I need to, our basement is like a flea market, full of vintage odds and ins just waiting for us to do something with. I am really after some vintage linens and fabric which I am sure to find, I don't know what I might do with them, any suggestions? I will post what I end up getting tomorrow!

I hope that you all had a wonderful Sunday!

Christmas Wrap-Up (Image Heavy)

Well, we got our white Christmas, but with some consequences to go along with it! My sister and her family couldn't make it because they live out in the country and their roads hadn't been touched since it had started snowing the night before. So we had 2 9x13 pans of potatoes, about 10 lbs of smoked meat and an 8 lb turkey breast, along with lots of snacks and dessert dishes! Yesterday it was only me, Gabe, the kids, my Mom and Step-Father and my Grandma, but we made due! It is still snowing today and looks like we are going to be getting about another 2 or so inches. Today we were supposed to have Christmas lunch with my Dad and Step-Mother, but that was canceled as of 7:30 this morning due to the weather since they live further North were most of the snow is falling! So, it's just us...with lots of leftovers!!!

Here is what our Christmas looked like...

My wonderful husband got this for me...

Letter from Santa...

More White Christmas randomness...

Izzy's "Where the Wild Things Are" figure collection...

On Christmas Eve my sister did make it in town to bake some cookies with the kids and get the scarf that I made her...

Well, that about does it as far as the pictures go, my husband just called me and he just ran the car into a ditch while he was going to the bank and post office, so his brother is on his way to pull him out...oh, the joy of winter in Missouri!

Our Christmas Rainbow!

The weather has been crazy here in Missouri, yesterday it was 54 degrees and it rained all day and then today it is supposed to snow up to 6 inches! But I can't complain because we will have a white Christmas! Yesterday during one of the many rain showers I just happened to glance out the window and noticed a perfect rainbow stretched out across the sky. I quickly grabbed my camera and my kids and ran out into the rain to capture this beautiful site. It was even more special because it was the first rainbow that my children had ever seen and boy were they excited! My daughter, Ragan almost cried with joy, I bet our neighbors thought we were crazy standing in the rain taking pictures of the sky, but I like to think that we were the only ones who experienced this colorful creation. My son, Nash wanted to find the end of the rainbow to see if there was a pot of gold and Ragan wanted to see if there was actually a Munchkin Land beyond it, she kept singing Ding Dong the Witch is Dead, we had just watched The Wizard of Oz earlier in the week.

Remember, no matter what you are doing always remember to stop and notice what God has created for us, it could be something small like a flower or as big as a rainbow...just notice it!

Here are some pictures of our Christmas Rainbow...

Have a Merry Christmas!
