HIP, HIP, HOORAY, Marci and Luka had a BIRTHDAY!

*****And now on to the show!*****

As soon as I saw Buccaneer Marci, I immediately thought of a birthday project with a pirate-y saying and here it is (you can click for a larger picture):

BuccaneerMarciPail1a
This is a 5" tall clear pail that I got from my local craft store. I used Make the Cut to design a divider for the pail and even printed the sentiments through MTC! In case you can't quite see it, the bottom says "It's y-arrr birthday!"

I watercolored Marci with just brown Tombow markers then cut her out and popped her up with foam boosters. I inked and crumpled the divider before I stuck her on to look like something old (like a treasure map).

Here's the back of the pail:

BuccaneerMarciPail1b
The top says "Enjoy your booty!" I filled this section with some chocolate coins and some cash with iridescent filler.

I hope you liked my project and thanks for hopping along with us! Your next stop is the incredibly talented Pops.

Which stamp would you like to see?

Hi everybody and welcome to my stop on the mini hop for Day 7 of La-La's Birthday Beach Bash! If you came here from Kim's blog then you're on the right track. But if you just happened on this post, then please start at the La-La Land Crafts blog so you don't miss a stop on the hop! We're all giving away mystery party favors so make sure to comment on each hop post to increase your chances of winning!

Before I get to my card, I am so excited to tell you that Irina has introduced another image in the new Marci line - Marci Ballerina:

She's available as a digi image for one week only, so hurry over to the store and pick her up!

Today is my last day posting for the Bash, so I wanted to make a really special card, and I hope I succeeded:

ShermanSnorkel1
What makes it extra special is that it's a tilt card! I put together a simple animated gif so you can how the tilt action allows Sherman to come up for air when needed:

Photobucket

I used Snorkel Sherman and this tutorial on Splitcoast. I used the Create A Critter cartridge for the fishbowl and had to make sure it was big enough for Sherman to swim around so my card is ginormous!! And by ginormous I mean 5.25" tall by 6.25" wide!

I colored Sherman with Copics, then cut him out leaving just a little white margin to make sure he stood out against the background paper. I cut all the other pieces with my Cricut and sponged the white bowl with some light blue ink to give it dimension. Lastly I followed the tutorial to put it all together and added some Dew Drops for air bubbles.

This card is also for the following challenges: I'm the last stop for today, so please head back to the La-La Land Crafts blog and leave your answer to the question "Which stamp would you like to see join the La-La Land family?" I hope you like my card and thanks very much for hopping with me this week!

What did Lala take to the beach?

Welcome to my stop on the mini hop for Day 6 of La-La's Birthday Beach Bash! I hope you're having fun hopping along with us every day! If you came here from 1LuvnMama's blog, then you're on the right track. But if you just happened across my blog, you'll want to start at the La-La Land Crafts blog because there's a great prize to be won for playing our game! We also have mystery party favors to give away so be sure to comment on all the hop posts to increase your chances of winning!

Here's my card for you today:

LalaMermaid2
As you already know, today we're playing "What did Lala take to the beach?" Although I do have a Lala card for you, it's not the right Lala!! You'll just have to keep hopping to find her and see what she took to the beach!

In case you'd like to know more about my card, here you go: I stamped Mermaid Lala, colored most of her with Copics, then cut her out. I paper pieced the shell in her hair, her top and her tail. Next I shaded her tail with a combo of Copics and colored pencil (I used the pencil to make the thin shading lines on her tail - it's way easier than trying to make really thin lines with my Copics). I then glued all the pieces on Lala and Stickled them all as well. Lastly I glued on micro half pearls for her necklace.

The sun was cut out with a Nesties die and the waves with a die from The Cat's Pajamas. I sanded the edges of the sun and waves and also ran my scissors along the straight edges of the wave pieces. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink and was curved on the acrylic block to fit around the sun.

This week's CAS-Tastic challenge is to CASE one of the DT member's cards. I picked Maylee's card and followed it pretty closely except for flipping it and my sentiment only goes part way around the circle (you can see Maylee's card at the above link).

This card is also for the following challenges: Your next stop is Sue's blog. Thanks for hopping with me!

La-La Land's Beach Ball Game

Hi everybody! Welcome to my stop on the mini hop for today! If you came here from 1LuvnMama's blog, then you're on the right track. But if you just happened across my blog, then you'll want to go back and start at the La-La Land Crafts blog because there are fab prizes to be won!

Today we're playing the Beach Ball Game: Count the number of beach balls on each card (watermarks or other beach balls, if in the stamp itself) and leave your answer (total of all beach balls that you found) back at the La-La Land Crafts blog. Here's my card:

RosieBeach2b
I used Sitting Pretty Rosie and a sketch from Crazy 4 Challenges. Rosie's dress was paper pieced with a cool bit of tropical print paper (it was actually a tag that matched the paper line) and the rest of her was colored with Copics. I actually made those little paper roses with an EK success punch and the sentiment (Papertrey Ink) was stamped on another little tag, and then cut out with a Spellbinders die.

This card is also for: And just a quick reminder that Birthday Marci is available in digi form this week only!!

Your next stop is Eva's blog. Thanks for looking!

LLWWC#49 - Shake It!

It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! I'm so excited to be hosting this week and I've chosen to challenge you all to make a shaker card! When I first started stamping many years ago, it was because I saw a guest on the Carol Duvall show make a shaker card! I ran out right away and bought a bunch of supplies (including a heat gun and embossing powder!) to make my own shaker card. It was pretty ambitious for a first project and came out pretty terrible, but it started me stamping so I'm glad I did it! Since then I've made a bunch of shaker cards and they're much easier to do than that first one!

In case you've never made a shaker card before, here's a great tutorial on how to make one. I actually make mine just a little differently, so I'll explain that below. For now, here's the card I made:

LalaPrincess2a
I used Princess Lala and my Cricut (I had to dust it off before using it!). I wanted the Lacy Labels cartridge as soon as I saw it and hubby was so sweet to get it for me!

When I make shaker cards, I use foam craft sheets for the innards instead of foam tape (or the hideous foam core board that I used for my very first one - SO hard to cut!!). I use 2 layers of the thin kind, but you could also use the thick kind. Or even just 1 layer of the thin stuff if your shaker contents will fit. Here's a picture of all the parts I used (minus the beads):

LalaPrincess2b
Lala was colored with Copics, and I airbrushed the edges of the circle with my Copic system so it wouldn't be so stark white. I also colored the edges of the foam layers with a Copic so it would match the purple card base. I even cut the foam with my Cricut using the deep cut blade and housing! The rollers smushed lines into the foam when it cut, but after sitting around for a while, the foam puffed back up to normal! Finally I just glued the parts together and added some beads for the shaker part.

This card is also for Charisma Cardz - Anything but Square, and Stamp Something - Something Flowery.

Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, so of course this week it's Princess Lala!

We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!

La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge #48

If you're looking for the Your Next Stamp Challenge #21, it's the post directly below this one. Thanks!

* * * * * * * * * *

Before I get to the challenge, I wanted to invite you all to La-La's First Birthday Beach Bash! It will be August 1-9 and will be a week long celebration featuring games, hops, and prizes!! Please join us starting August 1st at the La-La Land Crafts blog!
~~~~~
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by Cheryl and is to "upcycle" - "take something that you would normally throw away and "upcycle" it into something fabulous to use on your card!"
A few years ago, my sister gave me a Christmas present with a giant wired ribbon bow that I couldn't bear to throw away and it's just been sitting in my craft room until this challenge came along! Here's my card:
LalaWindow3
I used Window Lala and a sketch from Get Sketchy. It's a little hard to see the white on white (it helps a little if you click to enlarge), but I cut the wired edges off a strip of ribbon, then cut the ribbon into thinner strips for my card. This ribbon is really great - almost no raveling at all!
This card is also for Charisma Cardz - pink, and Crazy 4 Challenges - buttons.
Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Fairy Lala!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge #47
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by 1LuvnMama and is "Black and White +1," meaning only 1 color of your choice. I was pretty stumped for ideas for a while, then I thought to try a Twilight inspired card (since I've seen so many awesome ones in blogland and just saw Eclipse recently!). I took inspiration from the cover of the book:
And here's my card:
LalaPumpkin3
La-La Land doesn't really have any Bella-ish images, so I just picked the one I thought was the closest - Pumpkin Lala (which is one of the few Lalas not wearing a dress).
Since I wanted her to have an apple and had to cover up the pumpkin in her lap, Lala got the world's biggest apple! lol! I just traced the pumpkin shape onto some scrap paper and modified it ever so slightly to look more like an apple. Then I used that as a pattern to cut the shape out of red cardstock. I added a white colored pencil highlight and then covered the whole thing in clear dimensional adhesive for shine.
Since the skin tones on the book cover are brownish grays, I colored Lala with the warm Gray Copics. She was then cut out and mounted on foam boosters. I cut a slit above her legs to put the apple in over the pumpkin.
For the white heart, I stamped repeatedly with a swirl from There She Goes, and then sponged a mixture of black and linen distress inks (to get a warm gray color) on the edges and also roughed it up a bit with my scissors. I dyed the seam binding with a similar mixture of distress inks and scrunched it up until dry. I put together a bunch of stuff from my stash to make the beaded head pins and poked them through the seam binding to hold them in place.
Finally, I printed a sentiment using the Twilight font (which is actually called Zephyr), cut it into a flag and glued on a tiny red heart rhinestone. I hope you like it!
This card is also for: Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Bubble Lala!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge #46
If you're looking for the Your Next Stamp Challenge #20, it's the post directly below this one. Thanks!
* * * * * * * * * *
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by Kristine and is to make a Step Card - it can be a regular step card, a side step card, or even a double step card. If you're not sure what a step card is, please check out the La-La Land Crafts blog for some helpful links! Hey - why not go there anyway and check out all the completely awesome DT sample cards!
I decided to do a double side step card and here it is:
RosieSunflower2a
Here's an angled shot:
RosieSunflower2b
I used Sunflower Rosie and made up a pattern for the card myself:
The cardstock is 5.5" x 8.5": score/fold on all the dotted lines and cut the two solid lines. In case you can't see the side measurements, they are 1", 2", 3 3/8", 4 3/4", and 6 5/8". And then the middle fold is at 4 1/4" - make sure you only score between the 2 cut lines! Don't fold the entire card in half or it won't work!
I tried to make the steps go up in even increments, but couldn't do it exactly otherwise the measurements would have been really crazy!
Rosie's dress was paper pieced and the rest of her was colored with Copics. I stamped 3 extra sunflower heads, colored with Copics and cut them out. Their stems are just thin strips of the same green cardstock as the "grass." Both the blue and green patterned cardstocks are old Fancy Pants journaling cards that I've had forever. The butterflies are Martha Stewart punches glued to wire.
I'm also entering this card into Charisma Cardz - creations with something metal on it (wired butterflies) and Allsorts - Create a Scene.
Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Lala on a Swing!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge #45
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by Kim and is to "Try something new." Kim wrote, "this can be a new technique you have been dying to try but haven't had the time, a new card shape, some handmade embellishments...maybe even altering images if you haven't tried it yet!" Well, I've been stamping a REALLY long time so it took me a while to think up something I haven't tried yet, and then I remembered a background coloring technique that I've seen on a few blogs and decided to go for it! Here's what I came up with:
LalaFairy5
One of the blogs where I've seen the spotted background is Crissy Armstrong's and she even has a video tutorial on how to do it! It's not exactly how I would have wanted it, but I think it's not bad for a first try! I'll have to practice to get it perfect!
I used Fairy Lala (yes, again! I can't help it - I just love her!) and a sketch from OCC. I paper pieced Lala's dress and colored the rest with Copics, except her wings and wand, which were Stickled. I did the background first then made a mistake coloring her face. Not wanting to do the background over, I just colored another face, cut it out and put it over the first to hide my mistake!
Another new thing I tried this week is the hand-dyed and scrunched seam binding (I also used it on the card posted yesterday). I just cut approximately a yard off the roll, then dampened it and dyed with 2 colors of Distress reinkers, painting the colors in different areas for a variegated look, and scrunching up the ribbon to my liking. I LOVE how it came out and now want to use it on every card I make! I also dyed the Prima hydrangea with the same 2 colors to match the ribbon. I hope you like it!
Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Banjo Maya! And since we have the requirement that you must use a La-La Land Crafts image on your projects to win the $10 credit or Top Three, don't forget that we have all these fabulous digi images available!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
If you're looking for the Your Next Stamp Challenge #19, it's the post directly below this one. Thanks!
* * * * * * * * * *
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by Jane and is WHITE - white cardstock, designer paper, ribbon, embellishments, etc. If you're not quite sure what we mean, pop on over to the La-La Land Crafts blog and check out all the DT samples - everybody did such a great job with this challenge!
I wanted to go as white as possible and here's what I came up with:
RosieEasterDress1
I stamped Easter Dress Rosie in a light purple ink and then colored just certain parts of her with 2 different light purple Copic markers. 2 of the base pieces were embossed with Cuttlebug embossing folders, and the 2 strips were punched with a Martha Stewart punch. I then sewed on some white seed beads and glittered the edges of the purple panel. Finally, I die cut 2 sizes of flowers from felt, and sewed on a button with a piece of silk ribbon which was colored halfway with a purple Copic.
The sketch is from Cute Card Thursday.
Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Happy Maya!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge #43
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week I am your hostess and I've chosen the theme of embossing because it's something I normally love to do on cards, but for some reason haven't done lately! Here's what I came up with:
LalaBeach1
I used the new Beach Lala set and a sketch from Taylored Expressions. In case you can't see it, I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on the polka dot patterned paper. I like that it gives the paper a more whimsical look and some texture!
Lala was colored with Copics, her ball paper pieced, and then the whole thing cut out and popped up on the focal panel. I added the banner with brads airbrushed to match the cardstock and popped up in the middle with foam boosters. Finally I added a sentiment from the Beach Lala set and some straight stitching.
BTW, in case anybody's wondering about the highlights in her eyes, I normally color over the highlights in the image with a black pen and then dot in my own highlight later with a white gel pen. That way I can get the highlights the size I want and placed where I want them.
This card is also for: Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Beach Lala! And since we have a requirement that you must use a La-La Land Crafts image on your projects to win the $10 credit or Top Three, don't forget that we have all these fabulous digi images available!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
If you're looking for the Your Next Stamp Challenge #18, it's the post directly below this one. Thanks!
* * * * * * * * * *
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by Lisa and is to make a project with blue as your main color.
Here's my card:
RosieBeach1a
I used the new Beach Rosie set (which includes this sentiment as well as 2 others!) and a sketch from Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge.
Rosie was stamped, colored with Copics and cut out. Her swimsuit was paper pieced. I also stamped a separate oyster, colored it a little with Copics, painted over with Lumiere paint, then restamped the image over it because the paint made the lines look really faded. Then I cut it out and added a pearl that I airbrushed blue with a Copic marker.
Here's a close shot so you can see the oyster a little better:
RosieBeach1b
Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Garden Rosie! And since we have a new requirement that you must use a La-La Land Crafts image on your projects to win the $10 credit or Top Three, don't forget that we have all these fabulous digi images available now!
Happy Birthday Jane!
Today is the birthday of one of my fellow La-La Land Crafts DT members - Jane! You can head on over to the La-La Land Crafts blog to see more fabulous cards celebrating Jane's day and then pop over to her blog and leave her some love! Here's my card:
RosieSunflower1a
I used Sunflower Rosie and a sketch from Sketch Saturday. Everything besides the dress was colored with Copics. I paper pieced Rosie's dress and added an extra flower with attached arms over the dress for realism, popping up just the flower head for dimension. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.
Here's a close shot so you can see the dimension and the paper piecing:
RosieSunflower1b
This card is also for Charisma Cardz (flowers) and Daring Cardmakers ("A String of Pearls").
I hope you like and TFL!
La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge #40
If you're looking for the Your Next Stamp Challenge #17, it's the post directly below this one. Thanks!
* * * * * * * * * *
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by 1LuvnMama and is "Nestabilities Shaped Card" - the shape of your card should be the shape of whatever Nestabilities you choose.
I used the Curved Rectangles Mega Nestabilities (love this shape!) and here's what I came up with:
LalaPrincess1
I used Princess Lala and some old papers from Imaginisce.
I stamped Lala, then stamped over her with the frame stamp (Papertrey Ink) and let dry. I colored her in, but because I tend to do short choppy strokes when I color hair, I noticed that I went out of the lines quite a bit. So then I cut out just her head and put it aside. I stamped Lala and the frame again, colored Lala's dress and neck (and a little of her face and hair to keep it from being stark white under the popped up head), then cut just outside the line of the inner frame. I stamped the frame again on the dotted paper and used the matching Nestie to cut it out. I glued the cut out frame portion over the dotted frame, and then used a foam booster to attach the extra head. Finally, I stamped, colored and glittered, then cut out an extra crown and popped it up with tiny bits of cardstock.
Finishing touches - I sewed the strip of ribbon to the tiara paper, glittered all around the edges, added a sentiment (Papertrey) and pearls then glued the entire thing to my card base. When I'm making these types of shaped cards I always like to cut an entire separate panel for the front to keep the shape whole. When you cut along the fold to make a shaped card, you usually get a weird flat edge at the fold that I don't care for, so I just glue the full die cut over the folded card and the shape is perfect! (Hope that made sense!)
Challenges: Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Lala with Bunny! And since we have a new requirement that you must use a La-La Land Crafts image on your projects, don't forget that we have all these fabulous digi images available now!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge #39
It's time for another La-La's Weekly Wednesday Challenge! This week our theme was chosen by none other than Irina and is "Birthday Wishes." Here's my card:
LalaBirthdayPumpkin1
I love altering my Lala images - can you tell which oneS I used? I'll give you some time to think...
...
Give up?
I actually used the head (with a short, sassy 'do) from Pumpkin Lala and the body from Birthday Lala! Here are their pics so you can what I started with:
It was very easy to make the switch because the heads are almost exactly the same size! I just stamped and colored the head of Pumpkin Lala, then cut it out, leaving out the ponytails, and then stamped, colored and cut out Birthday Lala, leaving just a portion of her face so I would have something to glue the new head to.
I also paper pieced the present, colored the ribbon and bow on it, and popped it up with a foam booster. Then I stamped, colored, and cut out extra hands to go over the present. The sentiment is from Papertrey and I did it according to this genius tutorial by Debbie Olson.
The sketch is from Sketchy Thursday and this card is also for A Spoon Full of Sugar - "Cute and Girly" and Papertake Weekly - "Say it with Flowers."
Before I go, I want to let you know that whatever image the hostess uses on her project is 20% off for the week of the challenge, and this week it's Sitting Pretty Rosie! And since we have a new requirement that you must use a La-La Land Crafts image on your projects, don't forget that we have all these fabulous digi images available now!
We'd love to have you play along with us! All the details can be found on the La-La Land Crafts blog. TFL!
