Hey Sunshine

Today's card was made for a bunch of challenges that I'll describe below.

I used TGF's Rain Snow Shine set and a sentiment from Hanna Stamps' Things Hanna Would Say set. Anya was colored with Copics and cut out. I put dimensional adhesive on her sunglasses and tiny little rhinestone flowers on her bow and slippers. The beach background was airbrushed then I added some white gel pen for foam at the water's edge and some Stardust glitter pen to the water. I also added glitter pen to the sentiment. You can see the details a little better in this close shot:

Now for the challenges (7 in all - a new record for me!):

  • Pile It On - use 4 or more buttons (and of course combine with at least one other challenge)
  • Our Creative Corner - sketch
  • Charisma Cardz - create any project
  • Stamp Something - use at least 3 embellishments (can be 3 of the same 'bellie)
  • 2RedBananas - inspiration picture (beach scene)
  • Use It! - (a multi challenge all in itself!) use something inspired by nature (the sand dollar charm), use polka dots, use your favorite embellishment (a tie between ribbon and buttons - I used both!), and mail your creation to someone special.
  • The Greeting Farm - polka dots
TFL and I hope you like it!

Other materials used: patterned paper - Imaginisce (A Shore Thing collection); cardstock - Papertrey Ink (Summer Sunrise), Bazzill (Cajun); ink - Tsukineko (Graphite Black Brilliance), Papertrey Ink (Summer Sunrise); long classic and scalloped Nestabilities; ribbon - Pink Hedgehog Paper Crafts; buttons - Papertrey Ink (Lemon Tart); sand dollar charm from stash.

Another card set

For today’s post, I have another set of 3 cards that I made following this post by Cindy Lyles. I ended up using just a wee bit more than 2 6”x6” sheets of patterned paper because I did paper piecing for my focal image, but not much more. The truth is that I actually started with 2 12”x12” sheets of PP so I had a lot left over. BUT I’m planning on making a bunch more of these cards to use up the rest of the sheets.

Here are all 3 cards:

You can see that I put my cards together just a little differently than Cindy – I added the word window punch strips with my sentiment because it didn’t fit very well on the focal block, I changed the direction of the card with the PP strips, and I added stitching on all the cards. Yes, all the extra elements, including the paper piecing, do slow down the process (which was one of Cindy’s main points for this system), but I wasn’t as concerned with the time factor. For me, just getting more than 1 card done is a sitting is a major time saver, so Cindy’s mission was still accomplished!

Little details: I added some interest by coloring just a bit with my Copics – the leaves, stems, and centers of the flowers, and I popped up my flowers with foam tape for dimension.

Materials used: flower stamp from Printworks – Sweet Pea set; sentiment stamp from Hanna Stamps!; white cardstock from Georgia Pacific; purple cardstock from Bazzill; patterned paper from K&Company; black Brilliance ink from Tsukineko; mint ink and word window punch from Stampin’ Up!; markers from Copic; ribbon from May Arts; Nestabilities from Spellbinders; Dew Drops from the Robin’s Nest.

Cake Sophie

I decided to play in a color challenge on Splitcoast in the Hanna Stamps! forum. The challenge was to make a card using certain colors of Prism Paper, or they also gave the Stampin' Up! equivalents: Pretty in Pink, Tempting Turquoise, and Rose Red - a combo I found kind of difficult to use. I guess that's why it's called a challenge!

I totally forgot about it until just before bed tonight, so I had to whip up a really quick card! Luckily I already had this Cake Sophie image already stamped and colored with Copics (and even some Stickles glitter glue) so that really cut down on the time it took for this card. What do you think?

I got the idea of using 2 cuttlebug embossing folders and the dividing lines from Heart Prints which has some awesome samples you have to go check out! I absolutely love the look and will probably want to do it on every card I make now! BTW - I did the dividing lines with my Scor-It.

Other materials used: Sentiment also from Hanna Stamps!; Swiss Dots & D'vine Swirl embossing folders from Cuttlebug; punches (designer label, small oval, ticket corner, 1/2" circle) from Stampin' Up!; ribbon from May Arts; brads from Pink Hedgehog Crafts.

Chick Card - AMYRS23

I used another Amy Rysavy sketch for today's card: I got this little chick from Imaginisce a while ago but just couldn't figure out how to use it. As soon as I saw Amy's sketch, I immediately thought the chick would work perfectly! I also just got the 2 new Papertrey Ink colors, Lemon Tart and Summer Sunrise, which are such chickie colors! Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?

It's a little hard to see, but I stamped the Lemon Tart cardstock with the smallest dot pattern from Polka Dot Basics (also from Papertrey). Then I stamped the chick a couple times with black Brilliance ink and let dry. I did just a touch of detailing on the chick with a light yellow Copic marker and also added some orange for the beak. Then I cut them both out. On one, I colored the flower with a darker yellow and applied Stickles to just the petals.

I also stamped the chick on a white cardstock circle so that my chick would have legs when I was done. One of the yellow bodies was glued flat on the white circle, and for the other, I put a couple of small pieces of foam tape at the top to pop up the head portion only. I stuck the second yellow body over the first, and then punched a tiny hole through the middle of the flower for all layers. Once the orange brad was secured, it held down the bottom of the chick's body.

You can see the dimension in this shot:
I glued on a tiny black half-bead for the eye, then sponged the white circle with Lemon Tart ink and mounted on a Summer Sunrise scalloped circle (all cut with Nestabilities).

To finish the card, I used Scenic Route patterned paper that was sewn onto the base with zigzag and straight stitches.

The sentiment is from Hanna Stamps.

I really love how this card turned out!! Thanks to Amy for another great sketch!!

So this is bliss... Part deux

I got the Copic airbrush!! And a mini compressor so I don't have to deal with those little air cans!! I've been playing with it for a couple days now and it's so much fun I think I may use it on almost every card I make! And here's the first: You can barely tell, but all that blue sky around Riley is airbrushed. I love that it's such a soft, even coverage.

Even though I’ve been buying a TON of new stuff lately, I’ve also been trying to use up some of my stash as well. I dug out a 6x6 Fresh Print Swatch Book (remember those?) in Banana and used a few pieces from it. I went with the plain yellow for my scalloped square, and then stamped the dot pattern from the It’s A Celebration set from Papertrey Ink all over the plain orange sheet. I punched out the word “sunshine” from the verse cardstock sheet and glued it into a piece from the new Hodgepodge Hardware set from Stampin’ Up!

To finish off the card, I threaded some May Arts ribbon through the hardware piece and added some of those Michael’s decorative embellishments (which I’m calling Faux Drops) to the corners of the scalloped square.

Other materials used: Garden Riley stamp from Hanna Stamps!; white cardstock from Georgia Pacific; square and scalloped square Nestabilities from Spellbinders; markers from Copic; black Brilliance ink from Tsukineko; oval punch from Stampin' Up!; Eclipse masking tape.

Hula-dancing Sophie

This card really shows how Pam Bassett is my stamping idol and I want to make cards just like her!! I adore this card by Pam and wanted to make something similar, but with the hula-dancing Sophie image instead. Here’s my version: This is my third try at her famous ribbon blossom, and I think I’m getting a little better at them. I also ended up with similar colors as Pam’s card after I chose the striped paper from Paper Salon for my background. I mimicked Pam’s punch layering, but with a slight twist – I punched the label punch out of the patterned paper, and then put the circle and oval punches in the negative space. Lastly, I used the same sentiment stamp (hey sunshine) because it matches so well with these summer Riley stamps. Oh yeah, and I also did some sponging because Pam did it, and it just made it look better!

I know my stuff is nowhere near the level of Pam’s art, so I hope she doesn’t mind the C.A.S.E.!

Other materials used: stamps from Hanna Stamps!; white cardstock from Georgia Pacific; orange cardstock from WorldWin; black Brilliance ink from Tsukineko; markers from Copic; all punches, Only Orange ink and grosgrain ribbon from Stampin' Up!; white polka dot organdy ribbon from May Arts; all other ribbon from Pink Hedgehog Papercrafts; Nestabilities dies from Spellbinders.

Plane Riley

Today’s card uses another Riley from Hanna Stamps!. This image is actually the first Riley I ever colored and after doing it I realized I’d rather have the antlers a different color, so my Easter Riley is how I’ll probably be coloring him from now on. I knew as soon as I saw this guy that I had to have him because that blank banner is the perfect spot for any saying! I also saw someone else paper piece the airplane and I thought it was the cutest idea! All the patterned paper is from a big slab of My Mind’s Eye that I got from Costco ages ago.

After coloring, I masked Riley with Eclipse tape and sponged the clouds with an old stencil I had. I didn’t mask the little clouds so they got some blue ink on them. To cover it up, I simply drew inside them with a white paint pen and I like the little bit of texture it gave. I added on the PP pieces last and you can just barely tell that I also stamped the propeller part again on white cardstock and left the blades loose for a little dimension.

You can be sure this image will turn up again since he is an all-occasion moose!

Other materials used: markers from Copic; white cardstock from Georgia Pacific; sentiment from Papertrey Ink; white paint pen from Sakura; cloud stencil from Printworks; black Brilliance ink from Tsukineko.

Happy Easter!

Today’s card is my very first Riley card – I love this guy!!Usual details: stamped with black Brilliance on Georgia Pacific white cardstock and colored with Copics. You may be able to *just* see a little sparkle on the bow that I did with my clear Spica glitter pen.

A couple of unusual details: the green polka dot paper is actually from the packaging of one of my Papertrey Ink stamp sets! I got the idea from a card made by Julie Cameron where she actually used the box band from a stamp set as part of her card – what genious! I also used part of a box band for the paper-piecing of the egg and with the Stampin’ Up! label punch.

Second detail is the layering of the Stampin’ Up! punches which I copied from one of my stamping idols, Pam Bassett. You can see a couple samples in this post. I absolutely love the look and knew I had to try it out myself! I eliminated one of the layers because I thought it was a little much on this card, and I also left out the brads (because I didn’t want so many on this simple card) and the inking (because I forgot!). I’m sure I’ll be using this element on future cards because I think it looks great! Thanks Pam!

Last notes: You can see a little strip of pink on the right side of the card – that’s because the Cuttlebug embossed polka dots didn’t quite go all the way to the edge, so I cut off the thin strip of dot-less cardstock and then glued a strip of pink cardstock to the back edge of the card and stamped it with Papertrey’s polka dot set.

And finally – I didn’t have to do any masking when I stamped the pink oval under Riley. I just stamped the oval first, and then the green patterned paper covered up the overstamp.

Hope you all have a great day!

Other materials used: sentiment from Papertrey Ink; Mauve Mist ink, Pretty in Pink cardstock, circle and oval punches all from Stampin’ Up!; ribbon from May Arts; Nestabilities from Spellbinders; brads unknown.
